1 T he Lord said to Moses,

Entonces el Señor habló a Moisés:

2 “ Send men to spy out the land of Canaan which I am going to give to the people of Israel. Send a man from each of their fathers’ families, every one a leader among them.”

“Tú mismo envía hombres a fin de que reconozcan la tierra de Canaán, que voy a dar a los Israelitas. Enviarás un hombre de cada una de las tribus de sus padres, cada uno de ellos jefe entre ellos.”

3 S o Moses sent them from the desert of Paran, as the Lord had told him. All of the men were heads of the people of Israel.

Y Moisés los envió desde el desierto de Parán, al mandato del Señor; todos aquellos hombres eran jefes de los Israelitas.

4 T hese were their names. There was Shammua the son of Zaccur from the family of Reuben,

Y éstos eran sus nombres: de la tribu de Rubén, Samúa, hijo de Zacur;

5 S haphat the son of Hori from the family of Simeon,

de la tribu de Simeón, Safat, hijo de Hori;

6 C aleb the son of Jephunneh from the family of Judah,

de la tribu de Judá, Caleb, hijo de Jefone;

7 a nd Igal the son of Joseph from the family of Issachar.

de la tribu de Isacar, Igal, hijo de José;

8 T here was Hoshea the son of Nun from the family of Ephraim,

de la tribu de Efraín, Oseas, hijo de Nun;

9 P alti the son of Raphu from the family of Benjamin,

de la tribu de Benjamín, Palti, hijo de Rafú;

10 G addiel the son of Sodi from the family of Zebulun,

de la tribu de Zabulón, Gadiel, hijo de Sodi;

11 a nd Gaddi the son of Susi from the family of Joseph, from the family of Manasseh.

de la tribu de los hijos de José y de la tribu de Manasés, Gadi, hijo de Susi;

12 T here was Ammiel the son of Gemalli from the family of Dan,

de la tribu de Dan, Amiel, hijo de Gemali;

13 S ethur the son of Michael from the family of Asher,

de la tribu de Aser, Setur, hijo de Micael;

14 N ahbi the son of Vophsi from the family of Naphtali,

de la tribu de Neftalí, Nahbi, hijo de Vapsi;

15 a nd Geuel the son of Machi from the family of Gad.

de la tribu de Gad, Geuel, hijo de Maqui.

16 T hese are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. But Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun, Joshua.

Así se llamaban los hombres a quienes Moisés envió a reconocer la tierra; pero a Oseas, hijo de Nun, Moisés lo llamó Josué.

17 M oses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan. He said to them, “Go up there into the Negev. Then go up into the hill country.

Cuando Moisés los envió a reconocer la tierra de Canaán, les dijo: “Suban allá, al Neguev (región del sur); después suban a la región montañosa.

18 S ee what the land is like. See if the people who live in it are strong or weak, and if they are few or many.

Vean cómo es la tierra, y si la gente que habita en ella es fuerte o débil, si son pocos o muchos;

19 F ind out if the land they live in is good or bad. See if the cities they live in are open or if they have walls.

y cómo es la tierra en que viven, si es buena o mala; y cómo son las ciudades en que habitan, si son como campamentos abiertos o con fortificaciones;

20 F ind out if the land is rich or poor, and if there are trees in it or not. Then try to get some of the fruit of the land.” Now this was the gathering time of the first grown grapes.

y cómo es el terreno, si fértil o estéril. ¿Hay allí árboles o no? Procuren obtener algo del fruto de la tierra.” Aquel tiempo era el tiempo de las primeras uvas maduras.

21 S o they went up and spied out the land from the Desert of Zin as far as Rehob, at Lebo-hamath.

Entonces ellos subieron y reconocieron la tierra desde el desierto de Zin hasta Rehob, en Lebo Hamat.

22 W hen they had gone up into the Negev, they came to Hebron. Anak’s sons Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai were there. (Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

Y subieron por el Neguev, y llegaron hasta Hebrón, donde estaban Ahimán, Sesai y Talmai, los descendientes de Anac. Hebrón fue edificada siete años antes que Zoán en Egipto.

23 T hen they came to the valley of Eshcol. They cut down a branch from there with some grapes on it. And they carried it on a long piece of wood between two men, with some pomegranates and figs.

Y llegaron hasta el Valle de Escol (del Racimo) y de allí cortaron un sarmiento con un solo racimo de uvas; y lo llevaban en un palo entre dos hombres, con algunas de las granadas y de los higos.

24 T hat place was called the valley of Eshcol, because of much fruit the men of Israel cut down from there.

A aquel lugar se le llamó Valle de Escol por razón del racimo que los Israelitas cortaron allí.

25 T hey returned from looking over the land after forty days.

Y volvieron de reconocer la tierra después de cuarenta días,

26 A nd they came to Moses and Aaron and to all the people of Israel in the desert of Paran, at Kadesh. They brought news to them and to all the people, and showed them the fruit of the land.

y fueron y se presentaron a Moisés, a Aarón, y a toda la congregación de los Israelitas en el desierto de Parán, en Cades; y les dieron un informe a ellos y a toda la congregación, y les enseñaron el fruto de la tierra.

27 T hey told Moses, “We went to the land where you sent us. It does flow with milk and honey. This is its fruit.

Y le contaron a Moisés, y le dijeron: “Fuimos a la tierra adonde nos enviaste; ciertamente mana leche y miel, y éste es el fruto de ella.

28 B ut the people who live in the land are strong. The cities have walls and are very large. And we saw the children of Anak there.

Sólo que es fuerte el pueblo que habita en la tierra, y las ciudades, fortificadas y muy grandes; y además vimos allí a los descendientes de Anac.

29 A malek is living in the land of the Negev. The Hittites and Jebusites and Amorites are living in the hill country. And the Canaanites are living by the sea and by the side of the Jordan.”

Amalec habita en la tierra del Neguev, y los Hititas, los Jebuseos y los Amorreos habitan en la región montañosa, y los Cananeos habitan junto al mar y a la ribera del Jordán.”

30 T hen Caleb told the people in front of Moses to be quiet. And he said, “Let us go up at once and take the land. For we are well able to take it in battle.”

Entonces Caleb calmó al pueblo delante de Moisés, y dijo: “Debemos ciertamente subir y tomar posesión de ella, porque sin duda la conquistaremos.”

31 B ut the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go against the people. They are too strong for us.”

Pero los hombres que habían subido con él dijeron: “No podemos subir contra ese pueblo, porque es más fuerte que nosotros.”

32 S o they brought the people of Israel bad news about the land they had spied out, saying, “The land we have gone to spy out is a land that destroys those who go there to live. All the people we saw in it are very large.

Y dieron un mal informe a los Israelitas de la tierra que habían reconocido, diciendo: “La tierra por la que hemos ido para reconocerla es una tierra que devora a sus habitantes, y toda la gente que vimos en ella son hombres de gran estatura.

33 W e saw the Nephilim there. (The sons of Anak are part of the Nephilim.) We looked like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”

Vimos allí también a los gigantes (los hijos de Anac son parte de la raza de los gigantes); y a nosotros nos pareció que éramos como langostas; y así parecíamos ante sus ojos.”
