1 D avid said to himself, “Some day Saul will kill me. There is nothing better for me than to run to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will become tired of looking for me any more in the land of Israel. And I will get away from him.”

Entonces David se dijo: “Ahora bien, voy a perecer algún día por la mano de Saúl. Lo mejor para mí es huir a la tierra de los Filisteos. Saúl se cansará, y no me buscará más en todo el territorio de Israel, y escaparé de su mano.”

2 S o David got up and crossed over with his 600 men to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath.

Se levantó, pues, David y se pasó con los 600 hombres que estaban con él a Aquis, hijo de Maoc, rey de Gat.

3 D avid lived with Achish at Gath, he and his men. Each man had those of his family with him. David had with him his two wives, Ahinoam of Jezreel, and Abigail of Carmel, who had been Nabal’s wife.

David moró con Aquis en Gat, él y sus hombres, cada cual con los de su casa; David con sus dos mujeres Ahinoam la Jezreelita, y Abigail la de Carmel, viuda de Nabal.

4 W hen Saul was told that David had run to Gath, he looked for him no more.

Y le dieron la noticia a Saúl que David había huido a Gat, y no lo buscó más.

5 T hen David said to Achish, “If I have found favor in your eyes, let me be given a place in one of the country towns, that I may live there. For why should your servant live with you in the city of the king?”

Entonces David dijo a Aquis: “Si he hallado ahora gracia ante sus ojos, que me dé un lugar en una de las aldeas en el campo para que habite allí; pues, ¿por qué ha de morar su siervo con usted en la ciudad real?”

6 S o Achish gave him the town of Ziklag that day. Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah to this day.

Aquis le dio Siclag aquel día; por eso Siclag ha pertenecido a los reyes de Judá hasta hoy.

7 D avid lived in the country of the Philistines for a year and four months.

El número de los días que David habitó en el territorio de los Filisteos fue un año y cuatro meses.

8 N ow David and his men went up to fight the Geshurites, the Girzites and the Amalekites. For they had been living in the land a long time, as you come to Shur, even as far as the land of Egypt.

David y sus hombres subieron e hicieron incursiones contra los Guesuritas, los Guerzitas y los Amalecitas; porque ellos eran los habitantes de la tierra desde tiempos antiguos, según se va a Shur, hasta la tierra de Egipto.

9 D avid destroyed the land and did not leave a man or a woman alive. He took away the sheep, the cattle, the donkeys, the camels, and the clothing. Then he returned and came to Achish.

David atacaba el territorio, y no dejaba con vida hombre ni mujer, y se llevaba las ovejas, el ganado, los asnos, los camellos y la ropa. Entonces regresaba y venía a Aquis.

10 A chish said, “Where have you gone to battle today?” And David said, “Against the Negev of Judah, the Negev of the Jerahmeelites, and the Negev of the Kenites.”

Y Aquis decía: “¿Dónde atacaron hoy ?” Y David respondía: “Contra el Neguev (región del sur) de Judá, contra el Neguev de Jerameel y contra el Neguev de los Quenitas.”

11 D avid did not leave a man or woman alive to bring news to Gath, thinking, “They might tell about us. They might say, ‘This is what David has done all the time he has lived in the country of the Philistines.’”

David no dejaba con vida hombre ni mujer para traer a Gat y dijo: “No sea que nos descubran, diciendo: ‘Así ha hecho David, y así ha sido su costumbre todo el tiempo que ha morado en el territorio de los Filisteos.’”

12 A nd Achish believed David, saying, “He has made the people of Israel hate him. So he will become my servant forever.”

Aquis confiaba en David y se decía: “En verdad que se ha hecho odioso a su pueblo Israel y será mi servidor para siempre.”
