1 S ee what great love the Father has for us that He would call us His children. And that is what we are. For this reason the people of the world do not know who we are because they did not know Him.

Miren cuán gran amor nos ha otorgado el Padre: que seamos llamados hijos de Dios. Y eso somos. Por esto el mundo no nos conoce, porque no Lo conoció a El.

2 D ear friends, we are God’s children now. But it has not yet been shown to us what we are going to be. We know that when He comes again, we will be like Him because we will see Him as He is.

Amados, ahora somos hijos de Dios y aún no se ha manifestado lo que habremos de ser. Pero sabemos que cuando Cristo se manifieste, seremos semejantes a El, porque Lo veremos como El es.

3 T he person who is looking for this to happen will keep himself pure because Christ is pure.

Y todo el que tiene esta esperanza puesta en El, se purifica, así como El es puro.

4 T he person who keeps on sinning is guilty of not obeying the Law of God. For sin is breaking the Law of God.

Todo el que practica el pecado, practica también la infracción de la ley, pues el pecado es infracción de la ley.

5 Y ou know that Christ came to take away our sins. There is no sin in Him.

Ustedes saben que Cristo se manifestó a fin de quitar los pecados, y en El no hay pecado.

6 T he person who lives by the help of Christ does not keep on sinning. The person who keeps on sinning has not seen Him or has not known Him.

Todo el que permanece en El, no peca. Todo el que peca, ni Lo ha visto ni Lo ha conocido.

7 M y children, let no one lead you in the wrong way. The man who does what is right, is right with God in the same way as Christ is right with God.

Hijos míos, que nadie los engañe. El que practica la justicia es justo, así como El es justo.

8 T he person who keeps on sinning belongs to the devil. The devil has sinned from the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil.

El que practica el pecado es del diablo, porque el diablo ha pecado desde el principio. El Hijo de Dios se manifestó con este propósito: para destruir las obras del diablo.

9 N o person who has become a child of God keeps on sinning. This is because the Holy Spirit is in him. He cannot keep on sinning because God is his Father.

Ninguno que es nacido (engendrado) de Dios practica el pecado, porque la simiente de Dios permanece en él. No puede pecar, porque es nacido de Dios.

10 T his is the way you can know who are the children of God and who are the children of the devil. The person who does not keep on doing what is right and does not love his brother does not belong to God.

En esto se reconocen los hijos de Dios y los hijos del diablo: todo aquél que no practica la justicia, no es de Dios; tampoco aquél que no ama a su hermano.

11 T his is what you have heard from the beginning, that we should love each other.

Porque éste es el mensaje que ustedes han oído desde el principio: que nos amemos unos a otros.

12 D o not be like Cain. He was a child of the devil and killed his brother. Why did he kill him? It was because he did what was sinful and his brother did what was right.

No como Caín que era del maligno, y mató a su hermano. ¿Y por qué causa lo mató? Porque sus obras eran malas, y las de su hermano justas. Amemos de Hecho, no de Palabra

13 D o not be surprised if the world hates you, Christian brothers.

Hermanos, no se maravillen si el mundo los odia.

14 W e know we have passed from death into life. We know this because we love the Christians. The person who does not love has not passed from death into life.

Nosotros sabemos que hemos pasado de muerte a vida porque amamos a los hermanos. El que no ama permanece en muerte.

15 A man who hates his brother is a killer in his heart. You know that life which lasts forever is not in one who kills.

Todo el que aborrece a su hermano es un asesino, y ustedes saben que ningún asesino tiene vida eterna permanente en él.

16 W e know what love is because Christ gave His life for us. We should give our lives for our brothers.

En esto conocemos el amor: en que El puso Su vida por nosotros. También nosotros debemos poner nuestras vidas por los hermanos.

17 W hat if a person has enough money to live on and sees his brother in need of food and clothing? If he does not help him, how can the love of God be in him?

Pero el que tiene bienes de este mundo, y ve a su hermano en necesidad y cierra su corazón contra él, ¿cómo puede morar el amor de Dios en él ?

18 M y children, let us not love with words or in talk only. Let us love by what we do and in truth.

Hijos, no amemos de palabra ni de lengua, sino de hecho y en verdad.

19 T his is how we know we are Christians. It will give our heart comfort for sure when we stand before Him.

En esto sabremos que somos de la verdad, y aseguraremos nuestros corazones delante de El

20 O ur heart may say that we have done wrong. But remember, God is greater than our heart. He knows everything.

en cualquier cosa en que nuestro corazón nos condene. Porque Dios es mayor que nuestro corazón y El sabe todas las cosas.

21 D ear friends, if our heart does not say that we are wrong, we will have no fear as we stand before Him.

Amados, si nuestro corazón no nos condena, confianza tenemos delante de Dios.

22 W e will receive from Him whatever we ask if we obey Him and do what He wants.

Y todo lo que pidamos lo recibimos de El, porque guardamos Sus mandamientos y hacemos las cosas que son agradables delante de El.

23 T his is what He said we must do: Put your trust in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and love each other. Christ told us to do this.

Y éste es Su mandamiento: que creamos en el nombre de Su Hijo Jesucristo, y que nos amemos unos a otros como El nos ha mandado.

24 T he person who obeys Christ lives by the help of God and God lives in him. We know He lives in us by the Holy Spirit He has given us.

El que guarda Sus mandamientos permanece en El y Dios en él. Y en esto sabemos que El permanece en nosotros: por el Espíritu que nos ha dado.
