1 A maziah was twenty-five years old when he became king. And he ruled for twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.

Amasías tenía veinticinco años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó veintinueve años en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre era Joadán, de Jerusalén.

2 A maziah did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, but not with a whole heart.

Amasías hizo lo recto ante los ojos del Señor, aunque no de todo corazón.

3 A s soon as the nation was under his rule, he killed his servants who had killed his father the king.

Y una vez afianzado el reino en su mano, mató a los siervos suyos que habían asesinado al rey su padre.

4 B ut he did not kill their children. He did what is written in the Law in the book of Moses. The Lord had said in this Law, “Fathers must not be put to death for the children. And children must not be put to death for the fathers. Each must be put to death for his own sin.” The War against Edom

Pero a sus hijos no les dio muerte, sino que hizo conforme a lo que está escrito en la ley en el Libro de Moisés, tal como el Señor ordenó: “No se dará muerte a los padres por culpa de los hijos, ni se dará muerte a los hijos por culpa de los padres, sino que a cada uno se le dará muerte por su propio pecado.”

5 T hen Amaziah gathered the men of Judah together. He put them, by their fathers’ houses, under the rule of captains of thousands and of hundreds for all Judah and Benjamin. He numbered those who were twenty years old and older. And he found that they were 300, 000 chosen men, able to go to war and fight with spear and battle-covering.

Además Amasías reunió a Judá, y conforme a sus casas paternas los puso bajo capitanes de miles y capitanes de cientos por todo Judá y Benjamín. Hizo un censo de los de veinte años arriba, y halló 300, 000 hombres escogidos, hábiles para ir a la guerra y para manejar lanza y escudo.

6 H e also asked for the help of 100, 000 powerful soldiers from Israel and paid them with silver weighing as much as 100 men.

También tomó a sueldo a 100, 000 guerreros valientes de Israel por 3. 4 toneladas de plata.

7 B ut a man of God came to him and said, “O king, do not let the army of Israel go with you. For the Lord is not with Israel. He is not with all these sons of Ephraim.

Pero un hombre de Dios vino a Amasías y le dijo: “Oh rey, no permita que el ejército de Israel vaya con usted, porque el Señor no está con Israel ni con ninguno de los hijos de Efraín.

8 B ut if you think that in this way you will be strong in war, God will destroy you in front of those who fight you. For God has power to help and to destroy.”

Pero si usted va, hága lo, esfuércese para la batalla; sin embargo Dios lo derribará delante del enemigo, porque Dios tiene poder para ayudar y para derribar.”

9 A maziah said to the man of God, “But what should I do about the silver weighing as much as 100 men, which I have given to the army of Israel?” The man of God answered, “The Lord has much more to give you than this.”

Amasías dijo al hombre de Dios: “¿Y qué debo hacer con los 3. 4 toneladas que he dado a las tropas de Israel?” “El Señor tiene mucho más que darle que esto,” respondió el hombre de Dios.

10 T hen Amaziah sent the army home which had come to him from Ephraim. These hired soldiers were angry at the people of Judah. As they returned home they were very angry.

Entonces Amasías despidió las tropas que vinieron a él de Efraín, para que se fueran a sus casas. Porque se encendió en gran manera la ira de ellos contra Judá, así que regresaron a sus casas ardiendo en ira.

11 N ow Amaziah made himself strong of heart, and he led his people to the Valley of Salt and killed 10, 000 men of Seir.

Amasías se fortaleció, y al frente de su pueblo fue al Valle de la Sal y mató a 10, 000 de los hijos de Seir.

12 T he men of Judah also took 10, 000 men alive. They brought them to the top of a high rock and threw them down from it, so they were all crushed to pieces.

También los hijos de Judá capturaron vivos a 10, 000 y los llevaron a la cumbre de la peña, los echaron abajo desde la cumbre de la peña y todos fueron despedazados.

13 B ut the soldiers from Israel whom Amaziah had sent back from going with him to battle came and fought against the cities of Judah. They fought cities from Samaria to Beth-horon, and killed 3, 000 people living in them. And they took many things which had belonged to the people in these cities.

Pero las tropas que Amasías había hecho volver para que no fueran con él a la batalla, saquearon las ciudades de Judá desde Samaria hasta Bet Horón, mataron a 3, 000 de ellos y tomaron mucho botín.

14 A fter Amaziah came from killing the Edomites, he brought the gods of the men of Seir. He set them up as his gods. He bowed down in front of them, and burned special perfume to them.

Después que Amasías regresó de la matanza de los Edomitas, trajo los dioses de los hijos de Seir y los puso como sus dioses, se postró delante de ellos y les quemó incienso.

15 T hen the Lord was angry with Amaziah and sent a man who speaks for God to him, saying, “Why have you worshiped the gods of the people? These gods have not saved their own people from your hand.”

Entonces se encendió la ira del Señor contra Amasías, y le envió un profeta que le dijo: “¿Por qué has buscado a los dioses de otro pueblo que no pudieron librar a su propio pueblo de tu mano ?”

16 B ut as he was speaking the king said to him, “Have we chosen you to give words of wisdom to the king? Stop! Or I will have you put to death.” So the man who spoke for God stopped, but said, “I know that God has planned to destroy you because you have done this. And you have not listened to what I have said.” Israel Wins over Judah

Y mientras el profeta hablaba con él, el rey le dijo: “¿Acaso te hemos constituido consejero real? Detente. ¿Por qué buscas que te maten ?” Entonces el profeta se detuvo, y dijo: “Yo sé que Dios ha determinado destruirte, porque has hecho esto y no has escuchado mi consejo.”

17 T hen King Amaziah of Judah spoke with his wise men, and sent word to Joash the son of Jehoahaz the son of Jehu, the king of Israel, saying, “Come, let us face each other.”

Entonces Amasías, rey de Judá, tomó consejo y envió mensajeros a Joás, hijo de Joacaz, hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel, y le dijeron: “Ven, veámonos cara a cara.”

18 K ing Joash of Israel sent an answer to King Amaziah of Judah, saying, “The thorn bush in Lebanon sent word to the cedar in Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son for a wife.’ But a wild animal of Lebanon passed by and crushed the thorn bush under its feet.

Joás, rey de Israel, envió este mensaje a Amasías, rey de Judá: “El cardo que estaba en el Líbano, envió a decir al cedro que estaba en el Líbano: ‘Da a tu hija por mujer a mi hijo.’ Pero pasó una fiera que estaba en el Líbano, y pisoteó el cardo.

19 Y ou say, ‘See, I have destroyed Edom.’ And your heart has become proud by what you say. Now stay at home. Why should you bring trouble so you will fall, and Judah with you?”

Tú dijiste: ‘He derrotado a Edom’; y tu corazón se ha envanecido para gloriarte. Quédate ahora en tu casa; ¿por qué quieres provocar el mal, de modo que caigas tú y Judá contigo ?”

20 B ut Amaziah would not listen. God had planned that He would give Judah into the hand of Joash because Judah had worshiped the gods of Edom.

Pero Amasías no quiso escuchar, porque esto venía de Dios, para entregarlo en mano de Joás, porque había buscado los dioses de Edom.

21 S o King Joash of Israel met King Amaziah of Judah in battle at Beth-shemesh of Judah.

Subió Joás, rey de Israel, y él y Amasías, rey de Judá, se enfrentaron en Bet Semes, que pertenece a Judá.

22 A nd Judah lost the battle to Israel. Each man ran away to his home.

Y Judá fue derrotado por Israel, y huyeron, cada uno a su tienda.

23 K ing Joash of Israel took King Amaziah of Judah, the son of Joash, son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem. He tore down the wall of Jerusalem from the Gate of Ephraim to the Corner Gate, as much wall as 200 long steps.

Entonces Joás, rey de Israel, capturó en Bet Semes a Amasías, rey de Judá, hijo de Joás, hijo de Joacaz, y lo llevó a Jerusalén; y derribó la muralla de Jerusalén desde la Puerta de Efraín hasta la Puerta del Angulo, 180 metros.

24 A nd he took all the gold and silver, and all the objects found in the house of God with Obed-edom. He took the riches of the king’s house, and people also, and returned to Samaria. The Death of Amaziah

Joás tomó todo el oro y la plata, todos los utensilios que se encontraban con Obed Edom en la casa de Dios, los tesoros de la casa del rey y también los rehenes, y se volvió a Samaria.

25 A maziah, the son of King Joash of Judah, lived fifteen years after the death of Joash, the son of King Jehoahaz of Israel.

Y Amasías, hijo de Joás, rey de Judá, vivió quince años después de la muerte de Joás, hijo de Joacaz, rey de Israel.

26 N ow the rest of the acts of Amaziah, from first to last, are written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.

Los demás hechos de Amasías, desde el primero hasta el postrero, ¿no están escritos en el Libro de los Reyes de Judá y de Israel?

27 A fter Amaziah turned away from the Lord, they made plans against him in Jerusalem, and he ran away to Lachish. But they sent men after him to Lachish, and killed him there.

Desde el día en que Amasías se apartó de seguir al Señor, conspiraron contra él en Jerusalén, y él huyó a Laquis; pero lo persiguieron hasta Laquis y allí lo mataron.

28 T hen they brought him on horses and buried him with his fathers in the city of Judah.

Lo trajeron en caballos y lo sepultaron con sus padres en la ciudad de David.
