1 J esus said to His followers, “There was a rich man who put a boss over his houses and lands. Someone told him that his boss was not using his riches in a right way.

Decía también Jesús a los discípulos: “Había cierto hombre rico que tenía un mayordomo; y éste fue acusado ante él de derrochar sus bienes.

2 T he rich man sent for the boss and said, ‘What is this I hear about you? Tell me what you have done with my things. You are not to be the boss of my houses and lands anymore.’

Entonces lo llamó y le dijo: ‘¿Qué es esto que oigo acerca de ti? Rinde cuentas de tu administración, porque no puedes ser más mayordomo.’

3 “ The boss said to himself, ‘What will I do now? The owner of the houses and lands is taking my work away from me. I cannot dig in the ground for a living. I am too proud to ask for help.

Y el mayordomo se dijo a sí mismo: ‘¿Qué haré? Pues mi señor me quita la administración. No tengo fuerzas para cavar, y me da vergüenza mendigar.

4 I know what I will do. I will make it so that when I lose this work I will be able to go to the homes of my friends.’

Ya sé lo que haré, para que cuando se me destituya de la administración algunos me reciban en sus casas.’

5 “ He sent for the people who owed the rich man. He asked the first one, ‘How much do you owe the owner?’

Llamando a cada uno de los deudores de su señor, dijo al primero: ‘¿Cuánto le debes a mi señor?’

6 T he first man said, ‘One hundred barrels of oil.’ The boss said to him, ‘Take your bill. Sit down at once and change it to fifty.’

Y él dijo: ‘Cien barriles (3700 litros) de aceite.’ El mayordomo le dijo: ‘Toma tu factura, siéntate pronto y escribe cincuenta.’

7 H e asked another one, ‘How much do you owe?’ He said, ‘One hundred bags of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill and change it to eighty.’

Después dijo a otro: ‘Y tú, ¿cuánto debes?’ Y él respondió: ‘Cien medidas (unos 37, 000 litros) de trigo.’ El mayordomo le dijo: ‘Toma tu factura y escribe ochenta.’

8 T hen the rich man said that this sinful boss had been wise to plan for himself for the days ahead. For the people of the world are wiser in their day than the children of light.

El señor elogió al mayordomo injusto porque había procedido con sagacidad, pues los hijos de este siglo son más sagaces en las relaciones con sus semejantes que los hijos de la luz.

9 “ I tell you, make friends for yourselves by using the riches of the world that are so often used in wrong ways. So when riches are a thing of the past, friends may receive you into a home that will be forever.

Pero Yo les digo: háganse amigos por medio de las riquezas injustas, para que cuando les falten, los reciban en las moradas eternas.

10 H e that is faithful with little things is faithful with big things also. He that is not honest with little things is not honest with big things.

“El que es fiel en lo muy poco, es fiel también en lo mucho; y el que es injusto en lo muy poco, también es injusto en lo mucho.

11 I f you have not been faithful with riches of this world, who will trust you with true riches?

Por tanto, si no han sido fieles en el uso de las riquezas injustas, ¿quién les confiará las riquezas verdaderas?

12 I f you have not been faithful in that which belongs to another person, who will give you things to have as your own?

Y si no han sido fieles en el uso de lo ajeno, ¿quién les dará lo que es de ustedes ?

13 N o servant can have two bosses. He will hate the one and love the other. Or, he will be faithful to one and not faithful to the other. You cannot be faithful to God and to riches at the same time.” Jesus Teaches That the Law Is Not Finished

Ningún siervo puede servir a dos señores, porque o aborrecerá a uno y amará al otro, o se apegará a uno y despreciará al otro. No pueden servir a Dios y a las riquezas.” Los Fariseos y la Ley

14 T he proud religious law-keepers heard all these things. They loved money so they made fun of Jesus.

Los Fariseos, que eran amantes del dinero, oían todas estas cosas y se burlaban de El.

15 J esus said to them, “You are the kind of people who make yourselves look good before other people. God knows your hearts. What men think is good is hated in the eyes of God.

Y Jesús les dijo: “Ustedes son los que se justifican a sí mismos ante los hombres, pero Dios conoce sus corazones, porque lo que entre los hombres es de alta estima, abominable es delante de Dios.

16 U ntil John came, you had the writings of the Law and of the early preachers. From that time until now the Good News of the holy nation of God has been preached. Everyone is pushing his way in.

“La Ley y los Profetas se proclamaron hasta Juan; desde entonces se anuncian las buenas nuevas (el evangelio) del reino de Dios, y todos se esfuerzan por entrar en él.

17 B ut it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one small part of a word in the Law to be of no more use.

Pero es más fácil que el cielo y la tierra pasen, que un ápice de la Ley deje de cumplirse.

18 “ Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman is not faithful in marriage and is guilty of sex sins. The Rich Man and the Man Who Begged for Food

“Todo el que se divorcia de su mujer y se casa con otra, comete adulterio; y el que se casa con la que está divorciada del marido, comete adulterio. El Rico y Lázaro

19 “ There was a rich man who dressed in purple linen clothes everyday. He lived like a king would live with the best of food.

“Había cierto hombre rico que se vestía de púrpura y lino fino, celebrando cada día fiestas con esplendidez.

20 T here was a poor man named Lazarus who had many bad sores. He was put by the door of the rich man.

Y un pobre llamado Lázaro que se tiraba en el suelo a su puerta cubierto de llagas,

21 H e wanted the pieces of food that fell from the table of the rich man. Even dogs came and licked his sores.

ansiaba saciarse de las migajas que caían de la mesa del rico; además, hasta los perros venían y le lamían las llagas.

22 “ The poor man who asked for food died. He was taken by the angels into the arms of Abraham. The rich man died also and was buried.

Sucedió que murió el pobre y fue llevado por los ángeles al seno de Abraham; y murió también el rico y fue sepultado.

23 I n hell the rich man was in much pain. He looked up and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus beside him.

En el Hades (la región de los muertos) el rico alzó sus ojos, estando en tormentos, y vio a Abraham a lo lejos, y a Lázaro en su seno.

24 H e cried out and said, ‘Father Abraham, take pity on me. Send Lazarus. Let him put the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue. I am in much pain in this fire.’

Y gritando, dijo: ‘Padre Abraham, ten misericordia de mí, y envía a Lázaro para que moje la punta de su dedo en agua y refresque mi lengua, pues estoy en agonía en esta llama.’

25 A braham said, ‘My son, do not forget that when you were living you had your good things. Lazarus had bad things. Now he is well cared for. You are in pain.

Pero Abraham le dijo: ‘Hijo, recuerda que durante tu vida recibiste tus bienes, y Lázaro, igualmente, males; pero ahora él es consolado aquí, y tú estás en agonía.

26 A nd more than all this, there is a big deep place between us. No one from here can go there even if he wanted to go. No one can come from there.’

Además de todo esto, hay un gran abismo puesto entre nosotros y ustedes, de modo que los que quieran pasar de aquí a ustedes no pueden, y tampoco nadie puede cruzar de allá a nosotros.’

27 “ Then the rich man said, ‘Father, then I beg you to send Lazarus to my father’s house.

Entonces él dijo: ‘Te ruego, pues, padre, que lo envíes a la casa de mi padre,

28 I have five brothers. Let him tell them of these things, or they will come to this place of much pain also.’

pues tengo cinco hermanos, de modo que él los prevenga, para que ellos no vengan también a este lugar de tormento.’

29 A braham said, ‘They have the Writings of Moses and of the early preachers. Let them hear what they say.’

Pero Abraham dijo: ‘Ellos tienen a Moisés y a los Profetas; que los oigan a ellos.’

30 B ut the rich man said, ‘No, Father Abraham. If someone goes to them from the dead, they will be sorry for their sins and turn from them.’

Y el rico contestó: ‘No, padre Abraham, sino que si alguien va a ellos de entre los muertos, se arrepentirán.’

31 A braham said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and to the early preachers, they will not listen even if someone is raised from the dead.’”

Pero Abraham le contestó: ‘Si no escuchan a Moisés y a los Profetas, tampoco se persuadirán si alguien se levanta de entre los muertos.’”
