1 T hen all the captains of the armies, Johanan the son of Kareah, Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people both small and great, came near

Entonces se acercaron todos los jefes de las tropas, Johanán, hijo de Carea, Jezanías, hijo de Osaías, y todo el pueblo desde el menor hasta el mayor,

2 a nd said to Jeremiah the man of God, “Hear what we ask of you. Pray to the Lord your God for us, for all these people who are left. As you see, only a few of us are left out of many.

y dijeron al profeta Jeremías: “Llegue ahora ante ti nuestra súplica, y ruega al Señor tu Dios por nosotros, por todo este remanente, porque quedamos pocos de muchos que éramos, como pueden ver tus ojos,

3 P ray that the Lord your God may show us the way we should go and what we should do.”

para que el Señor tu Dios nos indique el camino por donde debemos ir y lo que debemos hacer.”

4 T hen Jeremiah the man of God said to them, “I have heard you. I will pray to the Lord your God as you ask. And I will tell you the whole answer that the Lord gives. I will not keep anything from you.”

Entonces el profeta Jeremías les dijo: “ Los he oído. Voy a orar al Señor su Dios conforme a sus palabras, y todas las palabras que el Señor les responda, yo se las declararé. No les ocultaré palabra alguna.”

5 T hen they said to Jeremiah, “May the Lord be true and faithful to speak against us if we do not do all that the Lord your God tells you we must do.

Y ellos dijeron a Jeremías: “Que el Señor sea un testigo veraz y fiel contra nosotros si no obramos conforme a toda palabra que el Señor tu Dios te mande para nosotros.

6 I f it is good or bad, we will listen to the voice of the Lord our God to Whom we are sending you. It will go well with us if we listen to the voice of the Lord our God.”

Sea buena o mala, escucharemos la voz del Señor nuestro Dios a quien te enviamos, para que nos vaya bien cuando escuchemos la voz del Señor nuestro Dios.”

7 A t the end of ten days the Word of the Lord came to Jeremiah.

Después de diez días, vino la palabra del Señor a Jeremías.

8 T hen he called for Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the armies that were with him, and for all the people both small and great.

Entonces llamó a Johanán, hijo de Carea, y a todos los jefes de las tropas que estaban con él, y a todo el pueblo desde el menor hasta el mayor,

9 A nd he said to them, “This is what the Lord the God of Israel says, to Whom you sent me to bring Him what you asked for:

y Jeremías les dijo: “Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel, a quien me enviaron para presentar delante de El la súplica de ustedes:

10 ‘ If you will stay in this land, then I will build you up and not tear you down. I will plant you and not pull you up by the roots. For I will change My mind about the trouble that I have given you.

‘Si se quedan en esta tierra, entonces los edificaré y no los derribaré, los plantaré y no los arrancaré, porque estoy arrepentido del mal que les he hecho.

11 D o not be afraid of the king of Babylon, who now fills you with fear. Do not be afraid of him,’ says the Lord. ‘For I am with you to save you and take you from his hands.

No teman al rey de Babilonia, a quien temen; no le teman,’ declara el Señor, ‘porque Yo estoy con ustedes para salvarlos y librarlos de su mano.

12 I will show you loving-pity, so that he will have pity on you and let you stay in your own land.

También tendré compasión de ustedes, para que él les tenga compasión y los restaure a la tierra de ustedes.

13 B ut if you say, “We will not stay in this land,” and will not listen to the voice of the Lord your God,

Pero si dicen: “No nos quedaremos en esta tierra,” no obedeciendo así la voz del Señor su Dios,

14 a nd if you say, “No, we will go to the land of Egypt, where we will not see war or hear the sound of a horn or be hungry for bread, and we will stay there,”

y dicen: “No, sino que iremos a la tierra de Egipto, donde no veremos guerra, ni oiremos el sonido de la trompeta, ni tendremos hambre de pan, y allí nos quedaremos”;

15 t hen listen to the Word of the Lord, O you who are left of Judah. This is what the Lord of All, the God of Israel, says: “If you set your mind to go into Egypt, and go to live there,

en este caso, oigan la palabra del Señor, remanente de Judá. Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: “Si se obstinan en entrar en Egipto, y entran para residir allí,

16 t hen the sword which you are afraid of will come to you there in the land of Egypt. The hunger you are worried about will follow after you there in Egypt. And there you will die.

entonces sucederá que la espada que ustedes temen, los alcanzará allí en la tierra de Egipto, y el hambre que les preocupa, les seguirá de cerca allí en Egipto, y allí morirán.

17 S o all the men who set their mind to go and live in Egypt will die by the sword and hunger and disease. They will have no one left alive and no one who will get away from the trouble that I will bring to them.’”

“Así pues, todos los hombres que se obstinen en ir a Egipto para residir allí, morirán a espada, de hambre y de pestilencia. No les quedará sobreviviente ni quien escape del mal que voy a traer sobre ellos.”’”

18 “ For the Lord of All, the God of Israel, says, ‘As My anger has been poured out on the people of Jerusalem, so My anger will be poured out on you when you go into Egypt. You will become a curse, and object of hate. People will say bad things against you. You will be put to shame. And you will never see this place again.’

Porque así dice el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: “Como se derramó Mi ira y Mi furor sobre los habitantes de Jerusalén, así se derramará Mi furor sobre ustedes cuando entren en Egipto. Y serán motivo de maldición, de horror, de imprecación y de oprobio, y no verán más este lugar.”

19 O people who are left of Judah, the Lord has said to you, ‘Do not go into Egypt!’ Know for sure that I have told you of the danger today.

El Señor les ha hablado, remanente de Judá: “No entren en Egipto.” Sépanlo bien, que hoy lo he declarado contra ustedes.

20 Y ou have fooled yourselves. You sent me to the Lord your God, saying, ‘Pray to the Lord our God for us. Whatever the Lord our God says, tell us and we will do it.’

Porque se engañan a sí mismos, pues ustedes fueron los que me enviaron al Señor su Dios, diciendo: “Ruega por nosotros al Señor nuestro Dios, y lo que el Señor nuestro Dios diga, nos lo haces saber y lo haremos.”

21 S o I have told you today, but you have not obeyed the Lord your God in anything that He told me to tell you.

Y hoy se lo he declarado, pero no han escuchado la voz del Señor su Dios, ni en cosa alguna de lo que El me ha enviado a decir les.

22 S o now be sure and know that you will die by the sword and hunger and disease, in the place where you want to go to live.”

Ahora pues, sépanlo bien, que morirán a espada, de hambre y de pestilencia en el lugar adonde desean ir a residir.
