1 J abin king of Hazor heard what had happened. He sent news to Jobab king of Madon and to the kings of Shimron and Achshaph.

Cuando Jabín, rey de Hazor, se enteró de todo esto envió mensajeros a Jobab, rey de Madón, al rey de Simrón, al rey de Acsaf.

2 H e sent news to the kings in the hill country to the north, in the Arabah south of Chinneroth, in the valleys, and in the high land of Dor to the west.

También avisó a los reyes que estaban al norte en la región montañosa, en el Arabá, al sur del Mar de Cineret (Mar de Galilea), y en las tierras bajas (la Sefela) y en las alturas de Dor al occidente,

3 H e sent news to the Canaanite in the east and in the west, and the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite in the hill country, and the Hivite at the base of Hermon in the land of Mizpeh.

a los Cananeos que estaban al oriente y al occidente, a los Amorreos, a los Hititas, a los Ferezeos y a los Jebuseos en la región montañosa, y a los Heveos al pie del Hermón en la tierra de Mizpa.

4 T hen they came out, they and all their armies with them. There were as many people as the sand beside the sea. And they had very many horses and war-wagons.

Salieron ellos, y todos sus ejércitos con ellos, tanta gente como la arena que está a la orilla del mar, con muchísimos caballos y carros.

5 A ll of these kings met and came and stayed together at the waters of Merom, to fight against Israel.

Así que todos estos reyes, habiendo acordado unirse, vinieron y acamparon juntos cerca de las aguas de Merom para pelear contra Israel.

6 “ Do not be afraid,” the Lord said to Joshua. “For tomorrow at this time I will have killed all of them for Israel. You will cut the legs of their horses and burn their war-wagons with fire.”

Entonces el Señor dijo a Josué: “No temas a causa de ellos, porque mañana a esta hora Yo los entregaré a todos ellos muertos delante de Israel. Desjarretarás sus caballos y les quemarás sus carros.”

7 S o Joshua with all the men of war came upon them by surprise at the waters of Merom, and fought against them.

Josué, y toda la gente de guerra con él, vinieron de repente sobre ellos junto a las aguas de Merom, y los atacaron.

8 A nd the Lord gave them into the hand of Israel. They won the war against them and ran after them as far as the big city of Sidon and Misrephoth-maim and the valley of Mizpeh to the east. They killed them until no one was left alive.

Y el Señor los entregó en manos de Israel, los derrotaron y los persiguieron hasta Sidón la grande, hasta Misrefot Maim y hasta el Valle de Mizpa al oriente. Los hirieron hasta que no les quedó sobreviviente alguno.

9 J oshua did to them as the Lord had told him. He cut the legs of their horses and burned their war-wagons with fire.

Josué hizo con ellos como el Señor le había mandado: desjarretó sus caballos y les quemó sus carros.

10 T hen Joshua turned back and took Hazor and killed its king with the sword. For Hazor had been the head of all these nations.

Por ese mismo tiempo Josué volvió y se apoderó de Hazor e hirió a espada a su rey, porque Hazor antes había sido cabeza de todos estos reinos.

11 T hey killed every person in it with the sword, destroying all of them. There was no one left who breathed. Then he burned Hazor with fire.

Mataron a filo de espada a todas las personas que había en ella, destruyéndo las por completo. No quedó nadie con vida. A Hazor le prendió fuego.

12 J oshua took all the cities of these kings, and all their kings and killed them with the sword. He destroyed all of them, just as the Lord’s servant Moses had told him.

Josué capturó todas las ciudades de estos reyes, y a todos sus reyes. Los hirió a filo de espada y los destruyó por completo, tal como Moisés, siervo del Señor, había ordenado.

13 B ut Israel did not burn any cities that stood on their hills, except Hazor, which Joshua burned.

Sin embargo, Israel no quemó ninguna de las ciudades que estaban sobre sus colinas, con la única excepción de Hazor, la cual Josué incendió.

14 T he sons of Israel took for themselves all the riches of these cities and the cattle. But they killed every man with the sword until they had destroyed them. They left no one who breathed.

Los Israelitas tomaron como botín todos los despojos de estas ciudades y el ganado; pero a los hombres hirieron a filo de espada hasta destruirlos. No dejaron a ninguno con vida.

15 W hat the Lord had told His servant Moses to do, he told Joshua, and Joshua did it. He did everything the Lord had told Moses.

Tal como el Señor había ordenado a Moisés Su siervo, así Moisés lo ordenó a Josué, y así Josué lo hizo. No dejó de hacer nada de todo lo que el Señor había ordenado a Moisés. Resumen de la Conquista

16 S o Joshua took all that land. He took the hill country, all the Negev, all the land of Goshen, the valleys, the Arabah, the hill country of Israel and its valleys.

Tomó, pues, Josué toda aquella tierra: la región montañosa, todo el Neguev (región del sur), toda la tierra de Gosén, las tierras bajas (la Sefela), el Arabá, la región montañosa de Israel y sus llanuras,

17 H e took the land from Mount Halak which goes up to Seir as far as Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon at the base of Mount Hermon. He took all their kings and killed them.

desde el Monte Halac, que se levanta hacia Seir, hasta Baal Gad en el Valle del Líbano, al pie del Monte Hermón. Capturó a todos sus reyes, los hirió y los mató.

18 J oshua made war against these kings for a long time.

Por mucho tiempo Josué estuvo en guerra con todos estos reyes.

19 T here was not a city which made peace with the sons of Israel except the Hivites living in Gibeon. They took them all in battle.

No hubo ciudad que hiciera paz con los Israelitas, excepto los Heveos que vivían en Gabaón. De todas se apoderaron por la fuerza.

20 F or the Lord made their hearts hard to meet Israel in battle, so Israel might destroy all of them. They would not be shown pity but would be destroyed, just as the Lord had told Moses.

Porque fue la intención del Señor endurecer el corazón de ellos, para que se enfrentaran en batalla con Israel, a fin de que fueran destruidos por completo, sin que tuviera piedad de ellos y los exterminara, tal como el Señor había ordenado a Moisés.

21 A t that time Joshua went and killed the big powerful men in the hill country. He killed them in Hebron, Debir, Anab, and all the hill country of Judah and Israel. Joshua destroyed all of them with their cities.

Por aquel tiempo Josué fue y destruyó a los Anaceos de la región montañosa, de Hebrón, de Debir, de Anab, de toda la región montañosa de Judá y de toda la región montañosa de Israel. Josué los destruyó por completo con sus ciudades.

22 T here were no big powerful men left in the land of the people of Israel. Some were left only in Gaza, Gath and Ashdod.

No quedaron Anaceos en la tierra de los Israelitas. Sólo quedaron algunos en Gaza, en Gat y en Asdod.

23 S o Joshua took the whole land, just as the Lord had told Moses. And Joshua gave it as a gift to Israel, a share for each family group. Then the land had rest from war.

Tomó, pues, Josué toda la tierra de acuerdo con todo lo que el Señor había dicho a Moisés. Y Josué la dio por heredad a Israel conforme a sus divisiones por sus tribus. Entonces la tierra descansó de la guerra.
