1 T here was a man named Nicodemus. He was a proud religious law-keeper and a leader of the Jews.

Había un hombre de los Fariseos, llamado Nicodemo, prominente (principal) entre los Judíos.

2 H e came to Jesus at night and said, “Teacher, we know You have come from God to teach us. No one can do these powerful works You do unless God is with Him.” Jesus Tells of the New Kind of Birth

Este vino a Jesús de noche y Le dijo: “Rabí, sabemos que has venido de Dios como maestro, porque nadie puede hacer las señales (los milagros) que Tú haces si Dios no está con él.”

3 J esus said to him, “For sure, I tell you, unless a man is born again, he cannot see the holy nation of God.”

Jesús le contestó: “En verdad te digo que el que no nace de nuevo no puede ver el reino de Dios.”

4 N icodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? How can he get into his mother’s body and be born the second time?”

Nicodemo Le dijo: “¿Cómo puede un hombre nacer siendo ya viejo? ¿Acaso puede entrar por segunda vez en el vientre de su madre y nacer?”

5 J esus answered, “For sure, I tell you, unless a man is born of water and of the Spirit of God, he cannot get into the holy nation of God.

Jesús respondió: “En verdad te digo que el que no nace de agua y del Espíritu no puede entrar en el reino de Dios.

6 W hatever is born of the flesh is flesh. Whatever is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Lo que es nacido de la carne, carne es, y lo que es nacido del Espíritu, espíritu es.

7 “ Do not be surprised that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’

No te asombres de que te haya dicho: ‘Tienen que nacer de nuevo.’

8 T he wind blows where it wants to and you hear its sound. You do not know where it comes from or where it goes. It is the same with everyone who is born of the Spirit of God.”

El viento sopla por donde quiere, y oyes su sonido, pero no sabes de dónde viene ni adónde va; así es todo aquél que es nacido del Espíritu.”

9 N icodemus said to Him, “How can this be?”

Nicodemo Le preguntó: “¿Cómo puede ser esto?

10 J esus said, “Are you a teacher among the Jews and do not know these things?

Jesús le respondió: “Tú eres maestro de Israel, ¿y no entiendes estas cosas?

11 F or sure, I tell you, We are talking about things We know. We tell of what We have seen. Yet you do not take Our words to be true.

En verdad te digo que hablamos lo que sabemos y damos testimonio de lo que hemos visto, pero ustedes no reciben nuestro testimonio.

12 I tell you about things of the earth and you do not believe them. How will you believe if I tell you things about heaven?

Si les he hablado de las cosas terrenales, y no creen, ¿cómo creerán si les hablo de las celestiales?

13 “ No one has gone up into heaven except the One Who came down from heaven. That One is the Son of Man Who is in heaven.

Nadie ha subido al cielo, sino Aquél que bajó del cielo, es decir, el Hijo del Hombre que está en el cielo.

14 A s Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up.

Y como Moisés levantó la serpiente en el desierto, así es necesario que sea levantado el Hijo del Hombre,

15 T hen whoever puts his trust in Him will have life that lasts forever.

para que todo aquél que cree, tenga en El vida eterna. El Amor de Dios

16 F or God so loved the world that He gave His only Son. Whoever puts his trust in God’s Son will not be lost but will have life that lasts forever.

“Porque de tal manera amó Dios al mundo, que dio a Su Hijo unigénito (único), para que todo aquél que cree en El, no se pierda, sino que tenga vida eterna.

17 F or God did not send His Son into the world to say it is guilty. He sent His Son so the world might be saved from the punishment of sin by Him.

Porque Dios no envió a Su Hijo al mundo para juzgar al mundo, sino para que el mundo sea salvo por El.

18 W hoever puts his trust in His Son is not guilty. Whoever does not put his trust in Him is guilty already. It is because he does not put his trust in the name of the only Son of God.

El que cree en El no es condenado (juzgado); pero el que no cree, ya ha sido condenado, porque no ha creído en el nombre del unigénito (único) Hijo de Dios.

19 “ The Light has come into the world. And the Light is the test by which men are guilty or not. People love darkness more than the Light because the things they do are sinful.

Y éste es el juicio: que la Luz vino al mundo, y los hombres amaron más las tinieblas que la Luz, pues sus acciones eran malas.

20 E veryone who sins hates the Light. He stays away from the Light because his sin would be found out.

Porque todo el que hace lo malo odia la Luz, y no viene a la Luz para que sus acciones no sean expuestas.

21 T he man who does what is right comes to the Light. What he does will be seen because he has done what God wanted him to do.” Jesus Preaches in Judea

Pero el que practica la verdad viene a la Luz, para que sus acciones sean manifestadas que han sido hechas en Dios.” Testimonio Final de Juan el Bautista

22 A fter this, Jesus and His followers came into the country of Judea. He stayed with them there and baptized people. John the Baptist Tells More about Jesus

Después de esto Jesús vino con Sus discípulos a la tierra de Judea, y estaba allí con ellos, y bautizaba.

23 J ohn was baptizing in the town of Aenon near Salim. There was much water there and people were coming to be baptized.

Juan también bautizaba en Enón, cerca de Salim, porque allí había mucha agua; y muchos venían y eran bautizados.

24 J ohn had not been put in prison yet.

Porque Juan todavía no había sido puesto en la cárcel.

25 T hen some of the followers of John and a Jew started to argue about the religious washing of the Jewish worship.

Surgió entonces una discusión entre los discípulos de Juan y un Judío acerca de la purificación.

26 T hey came to John and said to him, “Teacher, the One with you on the other side of the Jordan River is baptizing also. He is the One you told of. Everyone is going to Him.”

Vinieron a Juan y le dijeron: “Rabí, mira, Aquél que estaba contigo al otro lado del Jordán, de quien diste testimonio, está bautizando y todos van a El.”

27 J ohn said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven.

Juan les respondió: “Ningún hombre puede recibir nada si no le es dado del cielo.

28 Y ou heard the words that I said, ‘I am not the Christ, but I have been sent before Him.’

Ustedes mismos me son testigos de que dije: ‘Yo no soy el Cristo (el Mesías), sino que he sido enviado delante de El.’

29 T he man who has just been married has the bride. The friend of the man just married stands at his side and listens to him. He has joy when he hears the voice of the man just married. I am full of this joy.

El que tiene la novia es el novio, pero el amigo del novio, que está allí y le oye, se alegra en gran manera con la voz del novio. Y por eso, este gozo mío se ha completado.

30 H e must become more important. I must become less important.

Es necesario que El crezca, y que yo disminuya.

31 “ He Who comes from above is above all. He who comes from the earth is of the earth and speaks of the earth. He Who comes from heaven is above all.

“El que procede de arriba está por encima de todos; el que es de la tierra, procede de la tierra y de la tierra habla. El que procede del cielo está sobre todos.

32 H e tells of what He has seen and heard. But no one believes what He says.

Lo que El ha visto y oído, de eso da testimonio; y nadie recibe Su testimonio.

33 W hoever receives His words proves that God is true.

El que ha recibido Su testimonio ha certificado esto: que Dios es veraz.

34 H e was sent by God and He speaks God’s Word. God gives Him all of His Spirit.

Porque Aquél a quien Dios ha enviado habla las palabras de Dios, pues El da el Espíritu sin medida.

35 T he Father loves the Son and has given all things into His hand.

El Padre ama al Hijo y ha entregado todas las cosas en Su mano.

36 H e who puts his trust in the Son has life that lasts forever. He who does not put his trust in the Son will not have life, but the anger of God is on him.”

El que cree en el Hijo tiene vida eterna; pero el que no obedece al Hijo no verá la vida, sino que la ira de Dios permanece sobre él.”
