1 “ Hear, O Israel! You are crossing over the Jordan today to take the land that belongs to nations greater and stronger than you, with big cities with walls as high as heaven.

“Oye, Israel: Hoy vas a pasar el Jordán para entrar a desposeer a naciones más grandes y más poderosas que tú, ciudades grandes y fortificadas hasta el cielo,

2 T he people there are strong and tall, the sons of Anakim. You know of them and have heard it said, ‘Who can stand in front of the sons of Anak?’

un pueblo grande y alto, los hijos de los Anaceos, a quienes conoces y de quienes has oído decir: ‘¿Quién puede resistir ante los hijos de Anac ?’

3 B ut know today that it is the Lord your God Who is crossing over before you as a fire that destroys everything. He will destroy them and bring them down before you. So you may drive them out and be quick to destroy them, just as the Lord has told you.

Comprende, pues, hoy, que es el Señor tu Dios el que pasa delante de ti como fuego consumidor. El los destruirá y los humillará delante de ti, para que los expulses y los destruyas rápidamente, tal como el Señor te ha dicho.

4 B ut after the Lord your God has driven them out before you, do not say in your heart, ‘The Lord has brought me in to take this land because I am right and good.’ It is because of the sin of these nations that the Lord is driving them out in front of you.

“No digas en tu corazón cuando el Señor tu Dios los haya echado de delante de ti: ‘Por mi justicia el Señor me ha hecho entrar para poseer esta tierra,’ sino que es a causa de la maldad de estas naciones que el Señor las expulsa de delante de ti.

5 I t is not because of your being right with God that you are going to take their land. But it is because of the sin of these nations that the Lord your God is driving them out in front of you. By this the Lord is proving that He keeps the promise He made to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

No es por tu justicia ni por la rectitud de tu corazón que vas a poseer su tierra, sino que por la maldad de estas naciones el Señor tu Dios las expulsa de delante de ti, para confirmar el pacto que el Señor juró a tus padres Abraham, Isaac y Jacob.

6 U nderstand that it is not because you are right with God that the Lord your God is giving you this good land for your own, for you are a strong-willed people.

Comprende, pues, que no es por tu justicia que el Señor tu Dios te da esta buena tierra para poseerla, pues eres un pueblo terco. La Rebelión de Israel en Horeb

7 “ Remember and do not forget how you made the Lord your God angry in the desert. You have gone against the Lord from the day you left the land of Egypt until you came to this place.

Acuérdate; no olvides cómo provocaste a ira al Señor tu Dios en el desierto; desde el día en que saliste de la tierra de Egipto hasta que ustedes llegaron a este lugar, han sido rebeldes contra el Señor.

8 E ven at Mount Sinai you made the Lord angry. The Lord was so angry with you that He would have destroyed you.

Hasta en Horeb provocaron a ira al Señor, y el Señor se enojó tanto contra ustedes que estuvo a punto de destruirlos.

9 I went up the mountain to receive the pieces of stone, the Laws of the agreement which the Lord had made with you. I stayed on the mountain forty days and nights. I did not eat bread or drink water.

Cuando subí al monte para recibir las tablas de piedra, las tablas del pacto que el Señor había hecho con ustedes, me quedé en el monte cuarenta días y cuarenta noches; no comí pan ni bebí agua.

10 T hen the Lord gave me the two pieces of stone written by the finger of God. On them were all the words the Lord had spoken with you on the mountain from the fire on the day of the meeting.

El Señor me dio las dos tablas de piedra escritas por el dedo de Dios; y en ellas estaban todas las palabras que el Señor les había dicho en el monte, de en medio del fuego, el día de la asamblea.

11 A t the end of forty days and nights the Lord gave me the two pieces of stone, the Laws of the agreement.

Y aconteció después de cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, que el Señor me dio las dos tablas de piedra, las tablas del pacto.

12 T hen the Lord said to me, ‘Get up. Hurry and go down from here. For your people whom you brought out of Egypt have become very sinful. They have been quick to turn away from what I told them. They have made a false god for themselves.’

Entonces el Señor me dijo: ‘Levántate; baja aprisa de aquí, porque tu pueblo que sacaste de Egipto se ha corrompido. Pronto se han apartado del camino que Yo les había ordenado; se han hecho un ídolo de fundición.’

13 A nd the Lord said to me, ‘I have seen these people. See, they are strong-willed.

También el Señor me habló y dijo: ‘He visto a este pueblo, y en verdad es un pueblo terco.

14 L et Me alone, so I may destroy them and destroy their name from under heaven. I will make you into a nation that will be greater and stronger than they.’

Déjame que los destruya y borre su nombre de debajo del cielo; y de ti haré una nación más grande y más poderosa que ellos.’

15 S o I turned and came down from the mountain while the mountain was burning with fire. The two pieces of stone of the agreement were in my two hands.

Y volví, y descendí del monte mientras el monte ardía en fuego, y las dos tablas del pacto estaban en mis dos manos.

16 A nd I saw that it was true that you had sinned against the Lord your God. You had made for yourselves a calf out of gold. You had been quick to turn away from what the Lord had told you.

Y vi que en verdad ustedes habían pecado contra el Señor su Dios. Se habían hecho un becerro de fundición; pronto se habían apartado del camino que el Señor les había ordenado.

17 S o I took the two pieces of stone and threw them from my hands, and broke them in front of your eyes.

Tomé las dos tablas, las arrojé de mis manos y las hice pedazos delante de ustedes.

18 T hen again I fell down before the Lord for forty days and nights. I did not eat bread or drink water, because of all the sin you had done. You did what was sinful in the eyes of the Lord and made Him angry.

Entonces me postré delante del Señor como al principio, por cuarenta días y cuarenta noches; no comí pan ni bebí agua, a causa de todo el pecado que habían cometido al hacer lo malo ante los ojos del Señor, provocando así Su ira.

19 I was afraid of the anger of the Lord which was burning against you to destroy you. But the Lord listened to me again.

Porque temí la ira y el furor con que el Señor estaba enojado contra ustedes para destruirlos, pero el Señor me escuchó también esta vez.

20 T he Lord was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him. So I prayed for Aaron at the same time also.

El Señor se enojó tanto con Aarón que quiso destruirlo; y también intercedí por Aarón al mismo tiempo.

21 T hen I took your sinful thing, the calf you had made, and burned it with fire and crushed it. I ground it into pieces until it was as fine as dust. And I threw its dust into the river that flowed down from the mountain.

Y tomé el objeto del pecado de ustedes, el becerro que se habían hecho, y lo quemé en el fuego, y lo hice pedazos, desmenuzándolo hasta que quedó tan fino como el polvo; y eché su polvo al arroyo que bajaba del monte.

22 “ You made the Lord angry again at Taberah, Massah and Kibroth-hattaavah.

“Nuevamente, en Tabera, en Masah y en Kibrot Hataava, provocaron a ira al Señor.

23 T he Lord sent you from Kadesh-barnea, saying, ‘Go and take for your own the land I have given you.’ But you went against what the Lord your God told you to do. You did not believe Him or listen to His voice.

Y cuando el Señor los envió de Cades Barnea, diciendo: ‘Suban y tomen posesión de la tierra que Yo les he dado,’ entonces se rebelaron contra la orden del Señor su Dios; no Le creyeron, ni escucharon Su voz.

24 Y ou have gone against the Lord from the day I first knew you.

Ustedes han sido rebeldes al Señor desde el día en que los conocí. Oración de Moisés por Israel

25 “ So I fell down before the Lord and lay forty days and nights, because the Lord had said He would destroy you.

“Entonces me postré delante del Señor los cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, lo cual hice porque el Señor había dicho que los iba a destruir.

26 I prayed to the Lord, saying, ‘O Lord God, do not destroy Your people, Your chosen nation, whom You have set free by Your power and brought out of Egypt with a strong hand.

Oré al Señor, y dije: ‘Oh Señor Dios, no destruyas a Tu pueblo, a Tu heredad, que Tú has redimido con Tu grandeza, que Tú has sacado de Egipto con mano fuerte.

27 R emember Your servants, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Do not look at the strong will or sin or wrong-doing of these people.

‘Acuérdate de Tus siervos Abraham, Isaac y Jacob; no mires la dureza de este pueblo ni su maldad ni su pecado.

28 O r the land You brought us from may say, “The Lord was not able to bring them into the land He promised them. Because He hated them, He brought them out to kill them in the desert.”

‘De otra manera los de la tierra de donde Tú nos sacaste dirán: “Por cuanto el Señor no pudo hacerlos entrar en la tierra que les había prometido y porque los aborreció, los sacó para hacerlos morir en el desierto.’

29 Y et they are Your people, Your chosen nation, whom You have brought out by Your great power and Your long arm.’

‘Sin embargo, ellos son Tu pueblo, Tu heredad, a quien Tú has sacado con Tu gran poder y Tu brazo extendido.’
