1 “ And in the first year of Darius the Mede, I stood up to help him and give him strength.)

“Y en el primer año de Darío el Medo, yo mismo me levanté para serle fortalecedor y protector. Los Reyes del Norte y del Sur

2 I tell you the truth. Three more kings will rule over Persia. Then a fourth will become much richer than all of them. As soon as he becomes strong because of his riches, he will move everyone against the nation of Greece.

Ahora te declararé la verdad: Se levantarán tres reyes más en Persia, y un cuarto rey obtendrá muchas más riquezas que todos ellos. Cuando éste se haya hecho fuerte con sus riquezas, provocará a todo el imperio contra el reino de Grecia.

3 T hen a powerful king will rise up, and he will rule with power and do as he pleases.

Se levantará entonces un rey poderoso que gobernará con gran autoridad y hará lo que le plazca.

4 B ut as soon as he has risen to power, his nation will be broken and divided to the four winds of heaven. It will not be divided among his own children, or because of his own power. For his power will be taken and given to others besides these. The Nations of Egypt and Syria

Pero cuando se haya levantado, su reino será fragmentado y repartido hacia los cuatro vientos del cielo, no a sus descendientes, ni según el poder que ejerció, pues su reino será arrancado y dado a otros fuera de ellos.

5 “ Then the king of the South will become strong. But one of his leaders will become stronger than he and will rule with much power.

“Entonces el rey del sur se hará poderoso, y uno de sus príncipes se hará más poderoso que él y dominará. Su dominio será un gran dominio.

6 A fter some years they will join together. The daughter of the king of the South will come to the king of the North to make an agreement. But she will not keep her power, and he will not keep his. She will be killed, together with those who brought her, and her father, and the one who helped her.

Y años después, harán alianza, y la hija del rey del sur vendrá al rey del norte para hacer el pacto. Pero ella no retendrá su posición de poder, ni él permanecerá con su poder, sino que ella será entregada junto con los que la trajeron, con el que la engendró (su padre) y con el que la sostenía en aquellos tiempos.

7 B ut one of her family will become king in his place. He will fight against the army and go into the strong city of the king of the North. He will fight against them and win.

Pero se levantará un vástago de sus raíces en su lugar, y vendrá contra el ejército y entrará en la fortaleza del rey del norte, y luchará con ellos y prevalecerá.

8 A nd he will carry their false gods and objects of silver and gold away to Egypt. For some years he will leave the king of the North alone.

Aun sus dioses, sus imágenes fundidas y sus vasijas preciosas de plata y de oro los tomará y se los llevará a Egipto, y por algunos años él se mantendrá lejos del rey del norte.

9 T hen the king of the North will go to fight against the king of the South, but will return to his own land.

Y éste entrará en el reino del rey del sur, y luego se volverá a su tierra.

10 “ His sons will get ready for war and gather together a very large army. They will come like a flood and pass through, and fight in battle as far as his strong city.

“Pero sus hijos se movilizarán y reunirán una multitud de grandes ejércitos, y uno de ellos seguirá avanzando e inundará y pasará adelante, para hacer guerra de nuevo hasta la misma fortaleza.

11 T he king of the South will be very angry and will go and fight with the king of the North, who will have a very large army. But his army will be given over to the king of the South.

El rey del sur se enfurecerá, y saldrá y peleará contra el rey del norte. Y éste levantará una gran multitud, pero esa multitud será entregada en manos de aquél.

12 W hen the army is taken away, the king of the South will become very proud, and he will kill tens of thousands. But his strength will not last.

Cuando se haya llevado la multitud, su corazón se enaltecerá y hará caer a muchos millares, pero no prevalecerá.

13 F or the king of the North will gather together a larger army than before. And after some years he will come with a large army ready to do battle.

El rey del norte volverá a levantar una multitud mayor que la primera, y después de algunos años avanzará con un gran ejército y con mucho equipo.

14 “ In those times many will fight against the king of the South. Angry men among your people will also go against the king to do what was shown in the special dream, but they will not win.

“En aquellos tiempos, muchos se levantarán contra el rey del sur. Los violentos de tu pueblo también se levantarán para cumplir la visión, pero caerán.

15 T hen the king of the North will come and build a battle-wall, and take a very strong city. The army of the South will not be able to stand against him, not even their best soldiers. They will not have enough strength.

Vendrá el rey del norte, levantará un terraplén y tomará una ciudad bien fortificada. Y las fuerzas del sur no podrán mantenerse, ni aun sus tropas más selectas, porque no habrá fuerzas para resistir.

16 T he king of the North will do as he pleases. No one will be able to stand against him. He will stay for awhile in the Beautiful Land with the power to destroy it.

Pero el que viene contra él hará lo que quiera, y nadie podrá resistirlo. Y permanecerá por algún tiempo en la Tierra Hermosa (Palestina), llevando la destrucción en su mano.

17 H e will plan to come with the strength of his whole nation and will make a peace agreement with the king of the South. He will give him a daughter in marriage to try to destroy his nation. But she will not help him or be on his side.

Y afirmará su rostro para venir con el poder de todo su reino, trayendo consigo oferta de paz, lo cual llevará a cabo. También le dará una hija de las mujeres para destruirlo, pero ella no le respaldará ni se pondrá a su lado.

18 T hen he will turn to the lands beside the sea and take many in battle. But a captain will stop him (king of the North) in his pride, and cause trouble to be put on him.

Entonces volverá su rostro hacia las costas y tomará muchas de ellas. Pero un príncipe pondrá fin a su afrenta. Además, hará recaer sobre él su afrenta.

19 S o he will turn to the strong cities of his own land. But he will lose his step and fall, and will not be seen again. The Sinful King of Syria

Después volverá su rostro hacia las fortalezas de su tierra, pero tropezará y caerá, y no se le hallará más.

20 “ Then one will become king in his place, who will send a man through his great nation to make the people pay taxes. Yet within a short time that king will be killed, but not in anger or in battle.

“Y se levantará en su lugar otro que enviará un opresor a través de la Joya de su reino. Pero a los pocos días será destruido, aunque no en ira ni en batalla.

21 A very sinful person will rise to power in his place. He will not be given the honor of being king, but he will come in a time of peace and take over the nation using smooth sounding words and false ways.

En su lugar se levantará un hombre despreciable, a quien no se le han otorgado los honores de la realeza. Vendrá cuando haya tranquilidad y se apoderará del reino con intrigas.

22 A rmies will be driven away and destroyed in front of him, and also the ruler of the agreement.

Las fuerzas abrumadoras serán barridas ante él y destruidas, así como también el príncipe del pacto.

23 A nd after a peace agreement is made with him, he will use false ways and become strong with a small army.

Y después que se haya hecho alianza con él, actuará con engaño, y subirá y ganará poder con poca gente.

24 I n a time of peace he will go into the richest parts of the land, and do what his fathers and his fathers’ fathers never did. He will divide the things taken in war and things of worth among them, and make plans against strong cities, but only for a time.

En un tiempo de tranquilidad entrará en los lugares más ricos de la provincia, y logrará lo que nunca lograron sus padres, ni los padres de sus padres. Repartirá entre ellos despojos, botín y riquezas, y contra las fortalezas planeará sus intrigas, pero sólo por un tiempo.

25 H e will gather all his strength against the king of the South with a large army. So the king of the South will gather together a very large and powerful army for war, but he will not win the battle. Secret plans will be made against him.

Va a usar su fuerza y su corazón contra el rey del sur con un gran ejército. Y el rey del sur movilizará para la guerra un ejército muy grande y muy poderoso, pero no podrá resistir, porque planearán intrigas contra él.

26 T hose who eat his best food will destroy him. And his army will be driven away and many will be killed.

Y los que comen de sus manjares lo destruirán. Su ejército será barrido y muchos caerán muertos.

27 T he hearts of both kings will be sinful. They will lie to each other at the same table. But nothing will come of it, for the end will still come at the chosen time.

En cuanto a los dos reyes, en sus corazones tramarán el mal, y en la misma mesa se hablarán mentiras. Pero esto no tendrá éxito, porque el fin aún ha de venir en el tiempo señalado.

28 T hen the king of the North will return to his land with many things of much worth. But his heart will be set against the holy agreement. He will work against it and then return to his own land.

Entonces volverá a su tierra con grandes riquezas, pero pondrá su corazón contra el pacto santo. Actuará contra éste, y volverá a su tierra.

29 “ At the chosen time he will return to the South, but this time it will not be as it was before.

“En el tiempo señalado volverá y entrará en el sur, pero esta última vez no resultará como la primera.

30 F or ships of Kittim will come against him, and he will be afraid and turn back. He will return in anger and go against the holy agreement. He will come back and show favor to those who have turned away from the holy agreement.

Porque vendrán contra él naves de Quitim (Chipre), y se desanimará. Volverá y se enfurecerá contra el pacto santo y actuará contra él; volverá, pues, y favorecerá a los que abandonen el pacto santo.

31 H is armies will come and make the house of God unclean, and put an end to the burnt gifts. Then they will set up the very sinful manmade god.

Y de su parte se levantarán tropas, profanarán el santuario fortaleza, pondrán fin al sacrificio perpetuo y establecerán la abominación de la desolación.

32 H e will speak well of those who sin against the agreement. But the people who know their God will show their strength and stand against him.

Con halagos corromperá a los que obran inicuamente hacia el pacto, pero el pueblo que conoce a su Dios se mostrará fuerte y actuará.

33 T hose people who are wise will make many understand. But for many days they will be killed by the sword or by fire, or be taken to prison or robbed.

Los entendidos entre el pueblo instruirán a muchos. Sin embargo, durante muchos días caerán a espada y a fuego, en cautiverio y despojo.

34 W hen they fall, they will receive a little help. And many will pretend to be their friends.

Cuando caigan, recibirán poca ayuda, y muchos se unirán a ellos hipócritamente.

35 S ome of the wise people will be hurt, but this is so they will be made pure through punishment until the time of the end. For the end will still come at the chosen time.

También algunos de los entendidos caerán, a fin de ser refinados, purificados y emblanquecidos hasta el tiempo del fin. Porque aún está por venir el tiempo señalado.

36 “ Then the king will do as he pleases. He will honor himself more than every god, and will say very bad things against the God of gods. Everything will go well for him until the time of anger is finished. For what has been planned will be done.

“El rey hará lo que le plazca, se enaltecerá y se engrandecerá sobre todo dios, y contra el Dios de los dioses dirá cosas horrendas. El prosperará hasta que se haya acabado la indignación, porque lo que está decretado se cumplirá.

37 H e will not care about the gods of his fathers or for the one that women like. He will not care about any other god, for he will honor himself more than any of them.

No le importarán los dioses de sus padres ni el favorito de las mujeres, tampoco le importará ningún otro dios, porque él se ensalzará sobre todos ellos.

38 I nstead he will honor a god of strong cities, a god his fathers did not know. He will honor him with gold, silver, stones of much worth, and riches.

En su lugar honrará al dios de las fortalezas, un dios a quien sus padres no conocieron; lo honrará con oro y plata, piedras preciosas y cosas de gran valor.

39 A nd he will fight against the strongest cities with the help of a strange god. He will give great honor to those who follow him, and will let them rule over many people. And he will divide the land for a price.

Actuará contra la más fuerte de las fortalezas con la ayuda de un dios extranjero. A los que lo reconozcan colmará de honores, los hará gobernar sobre muchos y repartirá la tierra por un precio.

40 “ At the time of the end the king of the South will go against him. And the king of the North will fight against him with war-wagons, horsemen, and many ships. He will come into countries like a flood and pass through.

“Y al tiempo del fin, el rey del sur se enfrentará con él, y el rey del norte lo atacará con carros, jinetes y con numerosas naves. Entrará en sus tierras, las invadirá y pasará.

41 H e will also come into the Beautiful Land and many countries will be taken. But Edom, Moab and the leaders of Ammon will be saved from his power.

También entrará a la Tierra Hermosa (Palestina), y muchos países caerán. Pero éstos serán librados de su mano: Edom, Moab y lo más selecto de los Amonitas.

42 T hen he will fight against other countries, and Egypt will be taken.

Y extenderá su mano contra otros países, y la tierra de Egipto no escapará.

43 H e will get the hidden riches of gold and silver and all the things of great worth in Egypt. And the people of Libya and Ethiopia will follow behind him.

Se apoderará de los tesoros ocultos de oro y plata y de todas las cosas preciosas de Egipto. Libios y Etíopes seguirán sus pasos.

44 B ut news from the East and from the North will trouble him, and he will go with much anger to kill and destroy many people.

Pero rumores del oriente y del norte lo turbarán, y saldrá con gran furor para destruir y aniquilar a muchos.

45 H e will set up his tents made for kings between the sea and the beautiful holy mountain. Yet he will come to his end, and no one will help him.

Y plantará las tiendas de su pabellón entre los mares y el monte glorioso y santo. Pero llegará a su fin y no habrá quien lo ayude.
