1 I n the seventh month, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the king’s family, came to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam at Mizpah. He came with one of the head captains of the king, and ten other men. While they were eating bread together there in Mizpah,

En el mes séptimo fue Ismael, hijo de Netanías, hijo de Elisama, de la familia real, y uno de los oficiales principales del rey, junto con diez hombres, adonde estaba Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam, en Mizpa. Y mientras comían juntos allí en Mizpa,

2 I shmael the son of Nethaniah and the ten men who were with him rose up and killed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, with the sword. They killed the one whom the king of Babylon had chosen to rule the land.

se levantó Ismael, hijo de Netanías, y los diez hombres que estaban con él, e hirieron a espada a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam, hijo de Safán, y mataron al que el rey de Babilonia había puesto para gobernar sobre la tierra.

3 I shmael also killed all the Jews who were with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and the Babylonian soldiers who were found there.

Ismael mató también a todos los Judíos que estaban con él, es decir, con Gedalías, en Mizpa, y a los hombres de guerra Caldeos que se encontraban allí.

4 T he next day, before anyone knew that Gedaliah had been killed,

Y al día siguiente del asesinato de Gedalías, cuando nadie lo sabía aún,

5 e ighty men came from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria. Their hair was cut from their faces, their clothes were torn, and their bodies were cut. They came with grain gifts and special perfume in their hands to bring to the house of the Lord.

ochenta hombres vinieron de Siquem, de Silo y de Samaria, con las barbas rapadas, las vestiduras rasgadas y cubiertos de incisiones, y con ofrendas de cereal e incienso en sus manos, para llevar los a la casa del Señor.

6 T hen Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went out from Mizpah to meet them, crying as he went. As he met them he said, “Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.”

Entonces Ismael, hijo de Netanías, salió a su encuentro desde Mizpa, iba llorando; y cuando los encontró, les dijo: “Vengan a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam.”

7 W hen they came inside the city, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and the men who were with him killed them, and threw them into the well.

Cuando entraron en la ciudad, Ismael, hijo de Netanías, y los hombres que con él estaban, los degollaron y los echaron en la cisterna.

8 B ut there were ten men among them who said to Ishmael, “Do not kill us! For we have stores of grain, barley, oil and honey hidden in the field.” So he did not kill them with their friends.

Pero diez hombres que se encontraban entre ellos, dijeron a Ismael: “No nos mates; pues tenemos escondidos en el campo, depósitos de trigo, cebada, aceite y miel.” Y él se contuvo y no los mató como a sus compañeros.

9 T he well where Ishmael had thrown all the bodies of the men he had killed because of Gedaliah was the one that King Asa had made because of his fear of Baasha, king of Israel. Ishmael the son the Nethaniah filled it with the dead.

Y la cisterna donde Ismael había echado todos los cadáveres de los hombres que él había matado por causa de Gedalías, era la que el rey Asa había hecho por causa de Baasa, rey de Israel; Ismael, hijo de Netanías, la llenó de muertos.

10 T hen he put all the rest of the Jews in chains who were in Mizpah, the king’s daughters and all the people left in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan, the captain of the prison soldiers, had put under the rule of Gedaliah the son of Ahikam. Then Ishmael the son of Nethaniah took them and started to cross over to the sons of Ammon.

Después Ismael tomó cautivo a todo el resto del pueblo que estaba en Mizpa, a las hijas del rey y a todo el pueblo que había quedado en Mizpa, a los cuales Nabuzaradán, capitán de la guardia, había puesto bajo el mando de Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam. Los tomó, pues, cautivos Ismael, hijo de Netanías, y fue a pasarse a los Amonitas.

11 B ut Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the armies that were with him, heard about all the bad things that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done.

Y oyó Johanán, hijo de Carea, y todos los jefes de las tropas que estaban con él de todo el mal que había hecho Ismael, hijo de Netanías.

12 S o they took all the men and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah. They found him by the large pool in Gibeon.

Entonces tomaron a todos sus hombres y fueron a pelear contra Ismael, hijo de Netanías, y lo encontraron junto al gran estanque que está en Gabaón.

13 W hen all the people who were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah and the captains of the armies with him, they were glad.

Cuando todo el pueblo que estaba con Ismael vio a Johanán, hijo de Carea, y a los jefes de las tropas que estaban con él, se alegraron.

14 S o all the people Ishmael had taken from Mizpah turned around and came back, and went to Johanan the son of Kareah.

Y todo el pueblo que Ismael llevaba cautivo a Mizpa dio la vuelta y regresó y se fue con Johanán, hijo de Carea.

15 B ut Ishmael the son of Nethaniah got away from Johanan with eight men and went to the sons of Ammon.

Pero Ismael, hijo de Netanías, escapó de Johanán con ocho hombres y se fue con los Amonitas.

16 T hen Johanan the son of Kareah and all the captains of the armies that were with him took all the rest of the people whom Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had taken away from Mizpah after he had killed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam. They took the soldiers, the women, the children, and the servants, whom Johanan had brought back from Gibeon,

Entonces Johanán, hijo de Carea, y todos los jefes de las tropas que estaban con él, tomaron de Mizpa a todo el resto del pueblo que él había recobrado de Ismael, hijo de Netanías, después que éste había matado a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam, es decir, a los hombres de guerra, las mujeres, los niños y los eunucos, que había traído de Gabaón.

17 a nd they went and stayed in GeruthChimham near Bethlehem. They were on their way to Egypt

Y fueron y se quedaron en Gerut Quimam, que está junto a Belén (Casa del Pan), a fin de ir y entrar en Egipto,

18 b ecause of the Babylonians. For they were afraid of them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had killed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had chosen to rule the land.

a causa de los Caldeos, porque les temían, ya que Ismael, hijo de Netanías, había matado a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam, a quien el rey de Babilonia había puesto para gobernar el país.
