1 T he Lord said to Moses,

Y Jehová habló a Moisés, diciendo:

2 “ Send men to spy out the land of Canaan which I am going to give to the people of Israel. Send a man from each of their fathers’ families, every one a leader among them.”

Envía tú hombres que reconozcan la tierra de Canaán, la cual yo doy a los hijos de Israel; de cada tribu de sus padres enviaréis un varón, cada uno príncipe entre ellos.

3 S o Moses sent them from the desert of Paran, as the Lord had told him. All of the men were heads of the people of Israel.

Y Moisés los envió desde el desierto de Parán, conforme a la palabra de Jehová; y todos aquellos varones eran príncipes de los hijos de Israel.

4 T hese were their names. There was Shammua the son of Zaccur from the family of Reuben,

Estos son sus nombres: De la tribu de Rubén, Samúa hijo de Zacur.

5 S haphat the son of Hori from the family of Simeon,

De la tribu de Simeón, Safat hijo de Horí.

6 C aleb the son of Jephunneh from the family of Judah,

De la tribu de Judá, Caleb hijo de Jefuné.

7 a nd Igal the son of Joseph from the family of Issachar.

De la tribu de Isacar, Igal hijo de José.

8 T here was Hoshea the son of Nun from the family of Ephraim,

De la tribu de Efraín, Oseas hijo de Nun.

9 P alti the son of Raphu from the family of Benjamin,

De la tribu de Benjamín, Paltí hijo de Rafú.

10 G addiel the son of Sodi from the family of Zebulun,

De la tribu de Zabulón, Gadiel hijo de Sodí.

11 a nd Gaddi the son of Susi from the family of Joseph, from the family of Manasseh.

De la tribu de José: de la tribu de Manasés, Gadí hijo de Susí.

12 T here was Ammiel the son of Gemalli from the family of Dan,

De la tribu de Dan, Amiel hijo de Gemalí.

13 S ethur the son of Michael from the family of Asher,

De la tribu de Aser, Setur hijo de Miguel.

14 N ahbi the son of Vophsi from the family of Naphtali,

De la tribu de Neftalí, Nahbí hijo de Vapsí.

15 a nd Geuel the son of Machi from the family of Gad.

De la tribu de Gad, Geuel hijo de Maquí.

16 T hese are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. But Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun, Joshua.

Estos son los nombres de los varones que Moisés envió a reconocer la tierra; y a Oseas hijo de Nun le puso Moisés el nombre de Josué.

17 M oses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan. He said to them, “Go up there into the Negev. Then go up into the hill country.

Los envió, pues, Moisés a reconocer la tierra de Canaán, diciéndoles: Subid de aquí al Négueb, y subid al monte,

18 S ee what the land is like. See if the people who live in it are strong or weak, and if they are few or many.

y observad la tierra cómo es, y el pueblo que la habita, si es fuerte o débil, si poco o numeroso;

19 F ind out if the land they live in is good or bad. See if the cities they live in are open or if they have walls.

cómo es la tierra habitada, si es buena o mala; y cómo son las ciudades habitadas, si son campamentos o plazas fortificadas;

20 F ind out if the land is rich or poor, and if there are trees in it or not. Then try to get some of the fruit of the land.” Now this was the gathering time of the first grown grapes.

y cómo es el terreno, si es fértil o estéril, si en él hay árboles o no; y esforzaos, y tomad del fruto del país. Y era el tiempo de las primeras uvas.

21 S o they went up and spied out the land from the Desert of Zin as far as Rehob, at Lebo-hamath.

Y ellos subieron, y reconocieron la tierra desde el desierto de Zin hasta Rehob, entrando en Hamat.

22 W hen they had gone up into the Negev, they came to Hebron. Anak’s sons Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai were there. (Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

Y subieron al Négueb y vinieron hasta Hebrón; y allí estaban Ahimán, Sesay y Talmay, hijos de Anac. Hebrón fue edificada siete años antes de Zoán en Egipto.

23 T hen they came to the valley of Eshcol. They cut down a branch from there with some grapes on it. And they carried it on a long piece of wood between two men, with some pomegranates and figs.

Y llegaron hasta el arroyo de Escol, y de allí cortaron un sarmiento con un racimo de uvas, el cual trajeron dos en un palo, y de las granadas y de los higos.

24 T hat place was called the valley of Eshcol, because of much fruit the men of Israel cut down from there.

Y se llamó aquel lugar el Valle de Escol, por el racimo que cortaron de allí los hijos de Israel. Relato de los enviados

25 T hey returned from looking over the land after forty days.

Y volvieron de reconocer la tierra al cabo de cuarenta días.

26 A nd they came to Moses and Aaron and to all the people of Israel in the desert of Paran, at Kadesh. They brought news to them and to all the people, and showed them the fruit of the land.

Y anduvieron y vinieron a Moisés y a Aarón, y a toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel, en el desierto de Parán, en Cadés, y dieron la información a ellos y a toda la congregación, y les mostraron el fruto de la tierra.

27 T hey told Moses, “We went to the land where you sent us. It does flow with milk and honey. This is its fruit.

Y les contaron, diciendo: Nosotros llegamos a la tierra a la cual nos enviaste, la que ciertamente fluye leche y miel; y este es el fruto de ella.

28 B ut the people who live in the land are strong. The cities have walls and are very large. And we saw the children of Anak there.

Mas el pueblo que habita aquella tierra es fuerte, y las ciudades muy grandes y fortificadas; y también vimos allí a los hijos de Anac.

29 A malek is living in the land of the Negev. The Hittites and Jebusites and Amorites are living in the hill country. And the Canaanites are living by the sea and by the side of the Jordan.”

Amalec habita el Négueb, y el heteo, el jebuseo y el amorreo habitan en el monte, y el cananeo habita junto al mar, y a la ribera del Jordán.

30 T hen Caleb told the people in front of Moses to be quiet. And he said, “Let us go up at once and take the land. For we are well able to take it in battle.”

Entonces Caleb hizo callar al pueblo delante de Moisés, y dijo: Subamos luego, y tomemos posesión de ella; porque más podremos nosotros que ellos.

31 B ut the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go against the people. They are too strong for us.”

Mas los varones que subieron con él, dijeron: No podremos subir contra aquel pueblo, porque es más fuerte que nosotros.

32 S o they brought the people of Israel bad news about the land they had spied out, saying, “The land we have gone to spy out is a land that destroys those who go there to live. All the people we saw in it are very large.

Y hablaron mal entre los hijos de Israel, de la tierra que habían reconocido, diciendo: La tierra por donde pasamos para reconocerla, es tierra que traga a sus moradores; y todo el pueblo que vimos en medio de ella son hombres de gran estatura.

33 W e saw the Nephilim there. (The sons of Anak are part of the Nephilim.) We looked like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”

También vimos allí gigantes, hijos de Anac, raza de los gigantes, y éramos nosotros, a nuestro parecer, como langostas; y así les parecíamos a ellos.
