1 I n the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,

Aconteció en el cuarto año de Joacim, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, que vino esta palabra de Jehová a Jeremías, diciendo:

2 “ Take a book and write in it all the words which I have said to you about Israel, Judah, and all the nations. Write all I have said since the day I first spoke to you, from the days of Josiah until today.

Toma un rollo de libro, y escribe en él todas las palabras que te he hablado contra Israel y contra Judá, y contra todas las naciones, desde el día que comencé a hablarte, desde los días de Josías, hasta hoy.

3 I t may be that the house of Judah will hear all the trouble I am planning to bring on them, so that everyone will turn from his sinful way. Then I will forgive their wrong-doing and their sin.”

Quizás oiga la casa de Judá todo el mal que yo pienso hacerles, y se arrepienta cada uno de su mal camino, y yo perdonaré su maldad y su pecado.

4 S o Jeremiah called Baruch, the son of Neriah. And Baruch wrote in the book all the words which Jeremiah told him that the Lord had said to him.

Y llamó Jeremías a Baruc, hijo de Nerías, y escribió Baruc al dictado de Jeremías, en un rollo de libro, todas las palabras que Jehová le había hablado.

5 T hen Jeremiah said to Baruch, “I am shut up here and cannot go into the house of the Lord.

Después mandó Jeremías a Baruc, diciendo: Yo estoy detenido y no puedo entrar en la casa de Jehová.

6 S o you go to the Lord’s house on the special day of no food, and read to the people the words of the Lord which you have written down as I told them to you. And also read them to all the people of Judah who come from their cities.

Entra tú, pues, y lee de este rollo que escribiste al dictado mío, las palabras de Jehová a los oídos del pueblo, en la casa de Jehová, en día de ayuno; y las leerás también a oídos de todos los de Judá que vienen de sus ciudades.

7 I t may be that their prayer will come before the Lord, and everyone will turn from his sinful way. For the punishment that the Lord said would come to these people because of His anger is very bad.”

Quizá presenten sus súplicas ante Jehová, y se vuelva cada uno de su mal camino; porque grande es la ira y el furor que ha expresado Jehová contra este pueblo.

8 B aruch the son of Neriah did all that Jeremiah the man of God told him. He read from the book the words of the Lord in the Lord’s house.

Y Baruc, hijo de Nerías, hizo conforme a todas las cosas que le mandó Jeremías profeta, leyendo en el libro las palabras de Jehová en la casa de Jehová.

9 I n the ninth month of the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, all the people in Jerusalem and all those from the cities of Judah set apart to the Lord a day when they would not eat.

Precisamente en el año quinto de Joacim, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, en el mes noveno, se proclamaba ayuno en la presencia de Jehová a todo el pueblo de Jerusalén y a todo el pueblo que venía de las ciudades de Judá a Jerusalén.

10 T hen Baruch read from the book the words of Jeremiah to all the people in the house of the Lord, in the room of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the writer, in the upper place by the New Gate of the Lord’s house. The Book Is Read to the Leaders

Y Baruc leyó en el libro las palabras de Jeremías en la casa de Jehová, en el aposento de Gemarías, hijo de Safán el escriba, en el atrio de arriba, a la entrada de la puerta nueva de la casa de Jehová, a oídos de todo el pueblo.

11 W hen Micaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard all the words of the Lord from the book,

Y Miqueas, hijo de Gemarías, hijo de Safán, habiendo oído del libro todas las palabras de Jehová,

12 h e went down to the king’s house, into the writer’s room. And he saw that all the leaders were sitting there. There was Elishama the writer, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the other leaders.

descendió a la casa del rey, al aposento del secretario, y he aquí que todos los príncipes estaban allí sentados, esto es: Elisamá secretario, Delaías hijo de Semaías, Elnatán hijo de Acbor, Gemarías hijo de Safán, Sedequías hijo de Ananías, y todos los príncipes.

13 A nd Micaiah told them all that he had heard Baruch read to the people from the book.

Y les contó Miqueas todas las palabras que había oído cuando Baruc leyó en el libro a oídos del pueblo.

14 T hen all the leaders sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, to Baruch, saying, “Take the book you have read to the people, and come.” So Baruch the son of Neriah took the book in his hand and went to them.

Entonces enviaron todos los príncipes a Jehudí hijo de Netanías, hijo de Selemías, hijo de Cusí, para que dijese a Baruc: Toma el rollo en el que leíste a oídos del pueblo, y ven. Así pues, Baruc, hijo de Nerías, tomó el rollo en su mano y vino a ellos.

15 T hey told him, “Sit down and read it to us.” So Baruch read it to them.

Y le dijeron: Siéntate ahora, y léelo a nosotros. Y se lo leyó Baruc.

16 W hen they had heard all the words, they turned in fear to one another and said to Baruch, “For sure we will tell all these words to the king.”

Cuando oyeron todas aquellas palabras, cada uno se volvió espantado a su compañero, y dijeron a Baruc: Sin duda contaremos al rey todas estas palabras.

17 A nd they asked Baruch, “Tell us, how did you write all this? Did Jeremiah tell it to you?”

Preguntaron luego a Baruc, diciendo: Cuéntanos ahora cómo escribiste al dictado de él todas estas palabras.

18 B aruch said to them, “He told me all these words, and I wrote them down in the book.”

Y Baruc les dijo: Él me recitaba todas estas palabras, y yo las iba escribiendo con tinta en el libro.

19 T hen the leaders said to Baruch, “Go and hide, both you and Jeremiah. And do not let anyone know where you are.” The King Burns Jeremiah’s Book

Entonces dijeron los príncipes a Baruc: Ve y escóndete, tú y Jeremías, y que nadie sepa dónde estáis.

20 S o they went to the king in the open space, but they had put the book in the room of Elishama the writer. And they told all the words to the king.

Y entraron adonde estaba el rey, al atrio, después de depositar el rollo en el aposento de Elisamá el secretario; y contaron a oídos del rey todas estas palabras.

21 T hen the king sent Jehudi to get the book, and he took it out of the room of Elishama the writer. And Jehudi read it to the king and to all the leaders who stood beside him.

Y envió el rey a Jehudí a que tomase el rollo, el cual lo tomó del aposento de Elisamá el secretario, y leyó en él Jehudí a oídos del rey, y a oídos de todos los príncipes que junto al rey estaban.

22 I t was the ninth month, and the king was sitting in the winter house with a fire burning in the fireplace in front of him.

Y el rey estaba sentado en la casa de invierno en el mes noveno, y había un brasero ardiendo delante de él.

23 W hen Jehudi had read three or four parts, the king cut them with a small knife and threw them into the fire in the fireplace. He did this until the book was destroyed in the fire.

Cuando Jehudí había leído tres o cuatro planas, lo rasgó el rey con un cortaplumas de escriba, y lo echó en el fuego que había en el brasero, hasta que todo el rollo se consumió sobre el fuego que en el brasero había.

24 T he king and all his servants who heard all these words were not afraid, and they did not tear their clothes.

Y no tuvieron temor ni rasgaron sus vestidos el rey ni ninguno de sus siervos que oyeron todas estas palabras.

25 E lnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah begged the king not to burn the book, but he would not listen to them.

Y aunque Elnatán y Delaías y Gemarías rogaron al rey que no quemase aquel rollo, no los quiso oír.

26 A nd the king told Jerahmeel the king’s son, Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel to take hold of Baruch the writer and Jeremiah the man of God. But the Lord had hidden them. Jeremiah Writes Another Book

También mandó el rey a Jerameel hijo de Hamelec, a Seraías hijo de Azriel y a Selemías hijo de Abdeel, para que prendiesen a Baruc el escribiente y al profeta Jeremías; pero Jehová los escondió.

27 N ow the Word of the Lord came to Jeremiah after the king had burned the book with the words Jeremiah had told Baruch to write down. The Lord said,

Entonces vino palabra de Jehová a Jeremías, después que el rey había quemado el rollo, y las palabras que Baruc había escrito en él al dictado de Jeremías, diciendo:

28 “ Take another book and write in it all the words that were in the first book which Jehoiakim the king of Judah burned.

Vuelve a tomar otro rollo, y escribe en él todas las palabras que estaban antes en el primer rollo que quemó Joacim rey de Judá.

29 A nd about Jehoiakim the king of Judah you will say, ‘This is what the Lord says: “You have burned this book, saying, ‘Why have you written in it that the king of Babylon will be sure to come and destroy this land and put an end to every man and animal in it?’”

Y dirás a Joacim, rey de Judá: Así ha dicho Jehová: Tú quemaste este rollo, diciendo: ¿Por qué escribiste en él, diciendo: De cierto vendrá el rey de Babilonia, y destruirá esta tierra, y hará que no queden en ella ni hombres ni animales?

30 S o this is what the Lord says about Jehoiakim king of Judah: “He will have no one to sit on the throne of David. And his dead body will be thrown out to the heat of the day and the cold of the night.

Por tanto, así dice Jehová acerca de Joacim rey de Judá: No tendrá quien se siente sobre el trono de David; y su cuerpo será echado al calor del día y al hielo de la noche.

31 I will punish him and his children and his servants for their sin. And I will bring on them and the people of Jerusalem and the men of Judah all the trouble that I have said would come to them, because they would not listen.”’”

Y castigaré su maldad en él, y en su descendencia y en sus siervos; y traeré sobre ellos, y sobre los moradores de Jerusalén y sobre los varones de Judá, todo el mal que he pronunciado contra ellos, sin que hicieran caso.

32 T hen Jeremiah took another book and gave it to Baruch the son of Neraiah, the writer. And as Jeremiah told them to him, he wrote down all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire. And many words of the same kind were added to them.

Y tomó Jeremías otro rollo y lo dio a Baruc, hijo de Nerías, escriba; y escribió en él al dictado de Jeremías todas las palabras del libro que había quemado en el fuego Joacim, rey de Judá; y aún fueron añadidas sobre ellas muchas otras palabras semejantes.
