1 T hese are the words of the letter which Jeremiah the man of God sent from Jerusalem to the leaders, the religious leaders, the men of God, and all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had taken away from Jerusalem to Babylon.

Estas son las palabras de la carta que el profeta Jeremías envió desde Jerusalén a los ancianos que habían quedado de los que fueron deportados, y a los sacerdotes y profetas y a todo el pueblo que Nabucodonosor llevó cautivo de Jerusalén a Babilonia

2 ( This was after King Jeconiah and the queen mother, the king’s servants, the rulers of Judah and Jerusalem, and the able workmen had left Jerusalem.)

(después que salió el rey Jeconías, la reina madre, los cortesanos, los príncipes de Judá y de Jerusalén, los artífices y los ingenieros de Jerusalén),

3 T he letter was sent with Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, whom King Zedekiah of Judah sent to King Nebuchadnezzar in Babylon. It said,

por mano de Elasá, hijo de Safán, y de Gemarías, hijo de Hilcías, a quienes envió Sedequías, rey de Judá, a Babilonia, a Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia. Decía:

4 “ This is what the Lord of All, the God of Israel, says to all of His people who have been sent from Jerusalem to Babylon:

Así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, a todos los de la cautividad que hice deportar de Jerusalén a Babilonia:

5 ‘ Build houses and live in them. Plant gardens and eat their fruit.

Edificad casas, y habitadlas; y plantad huertos, y comed del fruto de ellos.

6 T ake wives and become the fathers of sons and daughters. And take wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, that they may give birth to sons and daughters. Become many there, and do not let your number become less.

Casaos, y engendrad hijos e hijas; dad mujeres a vuestros hijos, y dad maridos a vuestras hijas, para que tengan hijos e hijas; y multiplicaos ahí, y no os disminuyáis.

7 W ork for the well-being of the city where I have sent you to and pray to the Lord for this. For if it is well with the city you live in, it will be well with you.’

Y procurad la paz de la ciudad a la cual os hice deportar, y rogad por ella a Jehová; porque en su paz tendréis vosotros paz.

8 F or the Lord of All, the God of Israel, says, ‘Do not let the people among you who tell what is going to happen in the future and those who use their secret ways fool you. Do not listen to their dreams.

Porque así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: No os engañen vuestros profetas que están entre vosotros, ni vuestros adivinos; ni atendáis a los sueños que soñáis.

9 F or they speak false words to you in My name. I have not sent them,’ says the Lord.

Porque falsamente os profetizan ellos en mi nombre; no los envié, dice Jehová.

10 “ For the Lord says, ‘When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will visit you and keep My promise to you. I will bring you back to this place.

Porque así dice Jehová: Cuando a Babilonia se le cumplan setenta años, yo os visitaré, y realizaré sobre vosotros mi favorable promesa de haceros volver a este lugar.

11 F or I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for well-being and not for trouble, to give you a future and a hope.

Porque yo sé los pensamientos que tengo acerca de vosotros, dice Jehová, pensamientos de paz, y no de desgracia, para daros un porvenir y una esperanza.

12 T hen you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.

Entonces me invocaréis, y vendréis y oraréis a mí, y yo os escucharé;

13 Y ou will look for Me and find Me, when you look for Me with all your heart.

y me buscaréis y me hallaréis, cuando me busquéis de todo vuestro corazón.

14 I will be found by you,’ says the Lord. ‘And I will bring you back and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have made you go,’ says the Lord. ‘I will bring you back to the place from where I sent you away.’

Y seré hallado por vosotros, dice Jehová, y haré volver vuestra cautividad, y os reuniré de todas las naciones y de todos los lugares adonde os arrojé, dice Jehová; y os haré volver al lugar de donde os hice llevar cautivos.

15 “ You have said that the Lord has given men who speak for Him in Babylon.

Pues habéis dicho: Jehová nos ha levantado profetas en Babilonia.

16 T his is what the Lord says about the king who sits on the throne of David, and about all the people who live in this city, your brothers who were not taken with you to Babylon.

Pero así dice Jehová acerca del rey que está sentado sobre el trono de David, y de todo el pueblo que mora en esta ciudad, de vuestros hermanos que no salieron con vosotros en cautiverio;

17 T he Lord of All says, ‘I am sending the sword, hunger, and disease upon them. I will make them like bad figs which are so bad they cannot be eaten.

así dice Jehová de los ejércitos: He aquí que voy a enviar yo sobre ellos espada, hambre y pestilencia, y los pondré como los higos malos, que de tan malos no se pueden comer.

18 I will go after them with the sword, hunger, and disease, and will make them a cause of trouble to all the nations of the earth. They will be a curse, an object of much shame and hate among all the nations where I have made them go.

Los perseguiré con espada, con hambre y con pestilencia, y los pondré por espanto a todos los reinos de la tierra, por maldición y por asombro, y por burla y por afrenta para todas las naciones entre las cuales los he arrojado;

19 T his is because they have not listened to My words,’ says the Lord, ‘which I sent to them again and again by My servants who spoke for Me. And you did not listen,’ says the Lord.

por cuanto no han hecho caso de mis palabras, dice Jehová, que les envié por mis siervos los profetas, desde el principio y sin cesar; pero no quisisteis escuchar, dice Jehová.

20 S o hear the Word of the Lord, all you people who have been sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon.

Oíd, pues, la palabra de Jehová, vosotros todos los deportados que envié de Jerusalén a Babilonia.

21 “ This is what the Lord of All, the God of Israel, says about Ahab the son of Kolaiah and about Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who are speaking false words to you in My name: ‘See, I will give them over to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. And he will kill them in front of your eyes.

Así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, acerca de Ahab, hijo de Colaías, y acerca de Sedequías, hijo de Maasías, que os profetizan falsamente en mi nombre: He aquí los entrego yo en manos de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y él los matará delante de vuestros ojos.

22 B ecause of them a curse will be used by all the people who are from Judah but are in Babylon: “May the Lord make you like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon burned in the fire.”

Y todos los deportados de Judá que están en Babilonia harán de ellos una maldición, diciendo: Póngate Jehová como a Sedequías y como a Ahab, a quienes asó al fuego el rey de Babilonia.

23 T his is because they have done what is foolish in Israel. They have done sex sins with their neighbors’ wives. And they have spoken false words in My name, which I did not tell them to speak. I am He Who knows, and I see what they have done,’ says the Lord.” The Letter to Shemaiah

Porque hicieron maldad en Israel, y cometieron adulterio con las mujeres de sus prójimos, y falsamente hablaron en mi nombre palabras que no les mandé; de lo cual yo soy sabedor y testigo, dice Jehová.

24 A nd say to Shemaiah the Nehelamite,

Y en cuanto a Semaías de Nehelam, hablarás, diciendo:

25 “ This is what the Lord of All, the God of Israel, says: ‘You have sent letters in your own name to all the people in Jerusalem and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the religious leader, and to all the religious leaders. You said to Zephaniah,

Así habla Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, diciendo: Tú enviaste cartas en tu nombre a todo el pueblo que está en Jerusalén, y al sacerdote Sofonías, hijo de Maasías, y a todos los sacerdotes, diciendo:

26 “ The Lord has made you the religious leader over the house of the Lord instead of Jehoiada. You are to take every crazy man who says he speaks in God’s name and put him in chains with iron around his neck.

Jehová te ha puesto por sacerdote en lugar del sacerdote Joyadá, para que haya oficiales en la casa de Jehová, a cargo de todo hombre loco que se las eche de profeta, poniéndolo en el calabozo y en el cepo.

27 S o why have you not spoken sharp words to Jeremiah of Anathoth who is speaking to you in God’s name?

¿Por qué, pues, no has castigado ahora a Jeremías de Anatot, que se las echa de profeta con vosotros?

28 F or he has sent word to us in Babylon, saying, ‘You will be held there for a long time. So build houses and live in them. And plant gardens and eat their fruit.’”’”

Porque él nos envió a decir en Babilonia: Largo será el cautiverio; edificad casas, y habitadlas; plantad huertos, y comed el fruto de ellos.

29 Z ephaniah the religious leader read this letter to Jeremiah the man of God.

Y el sacerdote Sofonías leyó esta carta a oídos del profeta Jeremías.

30 T hen the Word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying,

Entonces vino palabra de Jehová a Jeremías, diciendo:

31 “ Send word to all My people held in Babylon, saying, ‘This is what the Lord says about Shemaiah the Nehelamite: Shemaiah has spoken to you in My name, but I did not send him. He has made you trust in a lie.’

Envía a decir a todos los cautivos: Así dice Jehová de Semaías de Nehelam: Porque os profetizó Semaías, y yo no lo envié, y os hizo confiar en una mentira;

32 S o the Lord says, ‘I am about to punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his children after him. He will not have anyone living among these people. And he will not see the good that I am about to do to My people,’ says the Lord, ‘because he has spoken against Me.’”

por tanto, así dice Jehová: He aquí que yo castigaré a Semaías de Nehelam y a su descendencia; no tendrá varón que more entre este pueblo, ni verá el bien que haré yo a mi pueblo, dice Jehová; porque contra Jehová ha hablado perversión.
