1 I n the third year that Belshazzar was king, I, Daniel, had another special dream.

En el año tercero del reinado del rey Belsasar me apareció una visión a mí, Daniel, después de aquella que me había aparecido antes.

2 I n the dream I looked and saw that I was in the strong city of Susa, in the land of Elam. I saw that I was beside the Ulai River.

Miré durante la visión y me vi yo en Susa, que es la plaza fuerte en la provincia de Elam; vi, pues, en visión, que me hallaba junto al río Ulay.

3 T hen I looked up and saw a ram with two horns standing by the river. The two horns were long, but one was longer than the other. And the longer one came up last.

Alcé los ojos y miré, y vi un carnero que estaba delante del río; tenía dos cuernos; y aunque ambos cuernos eran altos, uno era más alto que el otro, aunque el más alto había comenzado a crecer después del otro.

4 I saw the ram pushing to the west, to the north, and to the south. No other animals could stop him or be saved from his power. He did as he pleased and made himself great.

Vi que el carnero acometía con los cuernos contra el poniente, el norte y el sur, y que ninguna bestia podía resistirle, ni había quien escapase de su poder; y hacía conforme a su voluntad, y se engrandecía.

5 W hile I was watching, a male goat came from the west across the whole earth without touching the ground. And the goat had a horn between his eyes that was very easy to see.

Mientras yo consideraba esto, he aquí que un macho cabrío venía del lado del poniente sobre la superficie de toda la tierra, pero sin tocar el suelo; y aquel macho cabrío tenía un cuerno bien visible entre sus ojos.

6 H e came up to the ram with the two horns, which I had seen standing by the river, and rushed at him in his strong anger.

Y vino hasta el carnero de dos cuernos, que yo había visto de pie delante del río, y corrió contra él con la furia de su fuerza.

7 I saw him come at the ram in his anger. He hit the ram and broke his two horns to pieces. The ram was not strong enough to fight against him. So the goat threw him to the ground and crushed him under foot. And there was no one to save the ram from his power.

Y lo vi que alcanzaba al carnero, y se levantó contra él y le acometió, quebrándole sus dos cuernos, y el carnero no tenía fuerzas para resistirle; lo derribó, por tanto, en tierra, y lo pisoteó, y no hubo quien librase al carnero de su poder.

8 T hen the male goat became very great. But as soon as he was powerful, the large horn was broken. And four large horns came up in its place, toward the four winds of heaven.

Y el macho cabrío se engrandeció sobremanera; pero estando en su mayor fuerza, aquel gran cuerno fue quebrado, y en su lugar le salieron otros cuatro cuernos bien visibles hacia los cuatro vientos del cielo.

9 O ut of them came a little horn which grew in power toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Beautiful Land.

Y de uno de ellos salió un cuerno pequeño, que creció mucho hacia el sur y el oriente, y hacia la tierra gloriosa.

10 I t grew to be as great as the army of heaven and made some of them fall to the earth, and it crushed them into the ground.

Y se engrandeció hasta el ejército del cielo; y parte del ejército y de las estrellas echó por tierra, y las pisoteó.

11 I t thought itself to be as great as the Ruler of the army of heaven. It took away the burnt gifts which were given to Him each day, and destroyed His holy place.

Aun contra el príncipe de los ejércitos se irguió y por él le fue quitado el continuo sacrificio, y el lugar de su santuario fue echado por tierra.

12 B ecause of sin, the army of heaven and the burnt gifts were given over to the horn. It did well in whatever it wanted to do, and truth was thrown to the ground.

Y a causa de la iniquidad le fue entregado el ejército junto con el continuo sacrificio; y echó por tierra la verdad, e hizo cuanto quiso, y le acompañó el éxito.

13 T hen I heard a holy one speaking. And another holy one said to the one that spoke, “How long will it take for the things seen in the dream to happen? How long will the burnt gifts be taken, and sin allowed to destroy, so that the holy place and the army of heaven are crushed under foot?”

Entonces oí a un santo que hablaba; y otro de los santos preguntó a aquel que hablaba: ¿Hasta cuándo durará la visión del continuo sacrificio abolido, y la iniquidad asoladora puesta allí, y del santuario y el ejército pisoteados?

14 H e said to me, “For 2, 300 evenings and mornings. Then the holy place will be put to use again.” Gabriel Tells the Meaning of the Dream

Y él dijo: Hasta dos mil trescientas tardes y mañanas; luego el santuario será purificado. El ángel Gabriel explica la visión

15 W hen I, Daniel, had seen the special dream, I tried to understand it. Then I saw one standing in front of me who looked like a man.

Y aconteció que mientras yo Daniel contemplaba la visión y procuraba comprenderla, he aquí que se puso delante de mí uno con apariencia de hombre.

16 A nd I heard a man’s voice from the Ulai River. He called out and said, “Gabriel, help this man to understand the special dream.”

Y oí una voz de hombre entre las riberas del Ulay, que gritó y dijo: Gabriel, explícale a éste la visión.

17 W hen he came near the place where I was standing, I was afraid and fell on my face to the ground. But he said to me, “Son of man, understand that the special dream is about the time of the end.”

Vino luego cerca de donde yo estaba; al acercarse, me sobrecogí y me postré sobre mi rostro. Pero él me dijo: Presta atención, hijo de hombre, porque la visión es para el tiempo del fin.

18 W hile he was talking to me, I fell into a deep sleep with my face to the ground. But he touched me and made me stand up.

Mientras él hablaba conmigo, perdí el conocimiento y caí en tierra sobre mi rostro. Él me tocó, y me hizo estar en pie.

19 H e said, “I am going to let you know what the end of God’s anger will be. For the special dream is about the time of the end.

Y dijo: He aquí, voy a enseñarte lo que ha de venir al fin de la ira; porque el fin está fijado.

20 T he ram you saw had two horns which are the kings of Media and Persia.

En cuanto al carnero que viste, que tenía dos cuernos, éstos son los reyes de Media y de Persia.

21 T he male goat is the king of Greece, and the large horn between his eyes is the first king.

El macho cabrío es el rey de Grecia, y el cuerno grande que tenía entre sus ojos es el primer rey.

22 T he broken horn and the four horns that grew in its place are the four nations which will come from his nation. But they will not be as powerful.

Y en cuanto al cuerno que fue quebrado, y sucedieron cuatro en su lugar, significa que se levantarán de esa nación cuatro reinos, aunque no con la fuerza de él.

23 I n the later part of their rule, when they have become as sinful as they can be, a king will rise to power. This king will be very proud and will understand secret things.

Y al fin del reinado de éstos, cuando las transgresiones lleguen a su colmo, se levantará un rey altivo de rostro y experto en intrigas.

24 H e will become very strong, but not by his own power. He will destroy much, and do well in whatever he wants done. He will destroy powerful men and the holy people.

Y su poder se fortalecerá, mas no con fuerza propia; y causará grandes ruinas, y alcanzará éxitos en sus empresas, y destruirá a los fuertes y al pueblo de los santos.

25 H e will do well by using his false ways and lies, and will think of himself as great. He will destroy many who are taking it easy. He will even go against the Prince of princes. Yet he will be destroyed, but not by a human hand.

Con su sagacidad hará prosperar la intriga en su mano; y se ensoberbecerá en su corazón, y destruirá a muchos por sorpresa, y se levantará contra el Príncipe de los príncipes, pero será quebrantado, aunque no por mano humana.

26 T he special dream of the evenings and mornings that has been given to you is true. But keep the dream secret, for it has to do with things far into the future.”

La visión de las tardes y mañanas que se ha referido es verdadera; y tú guarda la visión, porque es para días lejanos.

27 I , Daniel, was tired and sick for days. Then I got up again and did the work that the king had given me. But I was filled with wonder because of the special dream, and did not understand it.

Y yo Daniel quedé quebrantado, y estuve enfermo durante algunos días, y cuando convalecí, volví a ocuparme en los asuntos del rey; pero estaba espantado a causa de la visión, y no la entendía.
