1 W hen Jesus had finished all this teaching, He said to His followers,

Y sucedió que, cuando Jesús terminó de hablar todas estas cosas, dijo a sus discípulos:

2 “ You know that the special religious supper to remember how the Jews left Egypt is in two days. The Son of Man will be handed over to be nailed to a cross.”

Sabéis que dentro de dos días se celebra la pascua, y el Hijo del Hombre será entregado para ser crucificado.

3 T he religious leaders and the leaders of the people gathered at the house of the head religious leader. His name was Caiaphas.

Entonces los principales sacerdotes, los escribas, y los ancianos del pueblo se reunieron en el patio del palacio del sumo sacerdote llamado Caifás,

4 T hey talked together how they might trap Jesus and kill Him.

y tuvieron consejo para prender con engaño a Jesús, y matarle.

5 B ut they said, “This must not happen on the day of the special supper. The people would be against it. They would make much trouble.” Mary of Bethany Puts Special Perfume on Jesus

Pero decían: No durante la fiesta, para que no se haga un alboroto en el pueblo. Jesucristo es ungido en Betania

6 J esus was in the town of Bethany in the house of Simon. Simon had a very bad skin disease.

Y estando Jesús en Betania, en casa de Simón el leproso,

7 A woman came with a jar of perfume. She had given much money for this. As Jesus ate, she poured the perfume on His head.

se acercó a él una mujer, con un frasco de alabastro de perfume muy caro, y lo derramó sobre la cabeza de él, mientras estaba sentado a la mesa.

8 W hen the followers saw it, they were angry. They said, “Why was this wasted?

Al ver esto, los discípulos se indignaron y decían: ¿Para qué este despilfarro?

9 T his perfume could have been sold for much money and given to poor people.”

Porque esto podía haberse vendido a gran precio, y haberse dado a los pobres.

10 J esus knew what they were saying. He said to them, “Why are you giving this woman trouble? She has done a good thing to Me.

Dándose cuenta de ello, les dijo Jesús: ¿Por qué molestáis a esta mujer?, pues ha hecho conmigo una buena obra.

11 Y ou will have poor people with you all the time. But you will not have Me with you all the time.

Porque a los pobres siempre los tenéis con vosotros, pero a mí no siempre me tendréis.

12 S he put this perfume on My body to make it ready for the grave.

Pues al derramar ella este perfume sobre mi cuerpo, lo ha hecho con miras a mi sepultura.

13 F or sure, I tell you, wherever this Good News is preached in all the world, this woman will be remembered for what she has done.” Judas Hands Jesus Over to Be Killed

De cierto os digo que dondequiera que se predique este evangelio, en todo el mundo, también se contará lo que ésta ha hecho, en recuerdo de ella. Judas se ofrece para entregar a Jesucristo

14 J udas Iscariot was one of the twelve followers. He went to the religious leaders of the Jews.

Entonces uno de los doce, el que se llamaba Judas Iscariote, fue a los principales sacerdotes,

15 H e said, “What will you pay me if I hand Jesus over to you?” They promised to pay him thirty pieces of silver.

y les dijo: ¿Qué me queréis dar, y yo os lo entregaré? Y ellos le asignaron treinta piezas de plata.

16 F rom that time on Judas looked for a way to hand Jesus over to them. Getting Ready for the Special Supper

Y desde entonces buscaba una oportunidad para entregarle. Institución de la Cena del Señor

17 O n the first day of the supper of bread without yeast the followers came to Jesus. They said, “What place do You want us to make ready for You to eat the supper of the special religious gathering to remember how the Jews left Egypt?”

El primer día de la fiesta de los panes sin levadura, se acercaron los discípulos a Jesús y le dijeron: ¿Dónde quieres que te hagamos los preparativos para comer la pascua?

18 H e said, “Go into the city to a certain man and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, “My time is near. I will eat the special supper at your house with My followers.”’”

Y él dijo: Id a la ciudad, a cierto hombre, y decidle: El Maestro dice: Mi tiempo está cerca; en tu casa voy a celebrar la pascua con mis discípulos.

19 T he followers did as Jesus told them. They made things ready for this special supper. The Last Special Supper

Y los discípulos hicieron conforme Jesús les había mandado, y prepararon la pascua.

20 W hen evening came, Jesus sat with the twelve followers.

Al caer la tarde, se sentó a la mesa con los doce.

21 A s they were eating, Jesus said, “For sure, I tell you, one of you will hand Me over.”

Y mientras comían, dijo: De cierto os digo, que uno de vosotros me va a entregar.

22 T hey were very sad. They said to Him one after the other, “Lord, is it I?”

Y entristecidos en gran manera, comenzó cada uno de ellos a decirle: ¿Acaso soy yo, Señor?

23 H e said, “The one who will hand Me over is the one who has just put his hand with Mine in the dish.

Entonces él respondió y dijo: El que mete la mano conmigo en el plato, ése me va a entregar.

24 T he Son of Man is going away as it is written of Him. It is bad for that man who hands the Son of Man over! It would have been better if he had not been born!”

El Hijo del Hombre se va, es cierto, según está escrito de él, pero ¡ay de aquel hombre por quien el Hijo del Hombre es entregado! ¡Más le valdría a ese hombre no haber nacido!

25 J udas was the one who was handing Jesus over. He said, “Teacher, am I the one?” Jesus said to him, “You have said it.” The First Lord’s Supper

Tomando la palabra Judas, el que le estaba traicionando, dijo: ¿Acaso soy yo, Maestro? Jesús le respondió: Tú lo has dicho.

26 A s they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread. He gave thanks and broke it in pieces. He gave it to His followers and said, “Take, eat, this is My body.”

Y mientras comían, tomó Jesús el pan y, tras pronunciar la bendición, lo partió, lo dio a sus discípulos, y dijo: Tomad, comed; esto es mi cuerpo.

27 T hen He took the cup and gave thanks. He gave it to them and said, “You must all drink from it.

Y tomando la copa, y habiendo dado gracias, se la dio, diciendo: Bebed de ella todos;

28 T his is My blood of the New Way of Worship which is given for many. It is given so the sins of many can be forgiven.

porque esto es mi sangre del nuevo pacto, que va a ser derramada por muchos, para remisión de los pecados.

29 I tell you that I will not drink of the fruit of the vine again until that day when I will drink it new with you in the holy nation of My Father.”

Y os digo que desde ahora no beberé más de este fruto de la vid, hasta aquel día en que lo beba nuevo con vosotros en el reino de mi Padre. Jesús anuncia la negación de Pedro

30 A fter they sang a song they went out to the Mount of Olives. Jesus Tells How Peter Will Lie about Him

Y cuando hubieron cantado el himno, salieron hacia el monte de los Olivos.

31 J esus said to them, “All of you will be ashamed of Me and leave Me tonight. For it is written, ‘I will kill the shepherd and the sheep of the flock will be spread everywhere.’

Entonces Jesús les dijo: Todos vosotros os escandalizaréis de mí esta noche; porque está escrito: Heriré al pastor, y se dispersarán las ovejas del rebaño.

32 A fter I am raised from the dead, I will go before you to the country of Galilee.”

Pero después que haya resucitado, iré delante de vosotros a Galilea.

33 P eter said to Jesus, “Even if all men give up and turn away because of You, I will never.”

Tomando entonces Pedro la palabra, le dijo: Aunque todos se escandalicen de ti, yo nunca me escandalizaré.

34 J esus said to him, “For sure, I tell you, before a rooster crows this night, you will say three times you do not know Me.”

Jesús le dijo: De cierto te digo que esta noche, antes que el gallo cante, me negarás tres veces.

35 P eter said to Him, “Even if I have to die with You, I will never say I do not know You.” And all the followers said the same thing. Jesus Prays in Gethsemane

Pedro le dijo: Aunque tenga que morir contigo, no te negaré. Y todos los discípulos dijeron lo mismo. Jesús ora en Getsemaní

36 J esus came with them to a place called Gethsemane. He said to them, “You sit here while I go over there to pray.”

Entonces marchó Jesús con ellos a un lugar que se llama Getsemaní, y dijo a sus discípulos: Sentaos aquí, mientras voy a orar allá.

37 H e took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee with Him. He began to have much sorrow and a heavy heart.

Y tomando a Pedro, y a los dos hijos de Zebedeo, comenzó a entristecerse y a sentir gran angustia.

38 T hen He said to them, “My soul is very sad. My soul is so full of sorrow I am ready to die. You stay here and watch with Me.”

Entonces les dijo: Mi alma está abrumada de una tristeza mortal; quedaos aquí, y velad conmigo.

39 H e went on a little farther and got down with His face on the ground. He prayed, “My Father, if it can be done, take away what is before Me. Even so, not what I want but what You want.”

Y adelantándose un poco, se postró rostro en tierra, orando y diciendo: Padre mío, si es posible pase de mí esta copa; sin embargo, no se haga como yo quiero, sino como tú.

40 T hen He came to the followers and found them sleeping. He said to Peter, “Were you not able to watch with Me one hour?

Vino luego a los discípulos, y los halló durmiendo, y dijo a Pedro: ¿Así que no habéis podido velar conmigo una hora?

41 W atch and pray so that you will not be tempted. Man’s spirit is willing, but the body does not have the power to do it.”

Velad y orad, para que no entréis en tentación; el espíritu a la verdad está animoso, pero la carne es débil.

42 H e went away again the second time. He prayed, saying, “My Father, if this must happen to Me, may whatever You want be done.”

De nuevo se apartó, y oró por segunda vez, diciendo: Padre mío, si no es posible que pase de mí esta copa sin que yo la beba, hágase tu voluntad.

43 H e came and found them asleep again. Their eyes were heavy.

Vino otra vez y los halló durmiendo, porque los ojos de ellos estaban cargados de sueño.

44 H e went away from them the third time and prayed the same prayer.

Y dejándolos, se fue de nuevo, y oró por tercera vez, diciendo las mismas palabras.

45 T hen He came to His followers and asked them, “Are you still sleeping and getting your rest? As I speak, the time has come when the Son of Man will be handed over to sinners.

Entonces vino a sus discípulos y les dijo: Dormid, pues, y descansad. He aquí que ha llegado la hora, y el Hijo del Hombre es entregado en manos de pecadores.

46 G et up and let us go. See! The man who will hand Me over is near.” Jesus Handed Over to Sinners

Levantaos, vamos; ved, se acerca el que me entrega. Arresto de Jesús

47 J udas, one of the twelve followers, came while Jesus was talking. He came with many others who had swords and sticks. They came from the religious leaders of the Jews and the leaders of the people.

Mientras todavía hablaba, vino Judas, uno de los doce, y con él mucha gente con espadas y palos, de parte de los principales sacerdotes y de los ancianos del pueblo.

48 T he man who handed Jesus over gave the men something to look for. He said, “The One I kiss is the One you want. Take Him!”

Y el que le entregaba les había dado una contraseña, diciendo: Al que yo bese, ése es; prendedle.

49 A t once Judas went up to Jesus and said, “Hello, Teacher,” and kissed Him.

Y en seguida se acercó a Jesús y dijo: ¡Salve, Maestro! Y le besó.

50 J esus said to him, “Friend, do what you came to do.” Then they came and put their hands on Jesus and took Him.

Jesús le dijo: Amigo, ¿a qué vienes? Entonces se acercaron y echaron mano a Jesús, y le prendieron.

51 O ne of those with Jesus took his sword. He hit the servant who was owned by the religious leader and cut off his ear.

En esto, uno de los que estaban con Jesús, extendiendo la mano, sacó su espada, e hirió a un siervo del sumo sacerdote, cortándole una oreja.

52 J esus said to him, “Put your sword back where it belongs. Everyone who uses a sword will die with a sword.

Entonces Jesús le dijo: Vuelve tu espada a su lugar; porque todos los que empuñen espada, a espada perecerán.

53 D o you not think that I can pray to My Father? At once He would send Me more than 70, 000 angels.

¿O te parece que no puedo ahora rogar a mi Padre, y que él no pondría a mi disposición más de doce legiones de ángeles?

54 I f I did, how could it happen as the Holy Writings said it would happen? It must be this way.”

Pero ¿cómo se cumplirían entonces las Escrituras, de que es menester que suceda así?

55 T hen Jesus said to the many people, “Have you come with swords and sticks to take Me as if I were a robber? I have been with you every day teaching in the house of God. You never put your hands on Me then.

Seguidamente, dijo Jesús a la gente: ¿Como contra un ladrón habéis salido con espadas y palos a prenderme? Cada día me sentaba ante vosotros enseñando en el templo, y no me prendisteis.

56 B ut this has happened as the early preachers said in the Holy Writings it would happen.” Then all the followers left Him and ran away. Jesus Stands in Front of the Religious Leaders

Pero todo esto ha sucedido para que se cumplan las Escrituras de los profetas. Entonces todos los discípulos le abandonaron y huyeron. Jesucristo ante el sanedrín

57 T hose who had taken Jesus led Him away to Caiaphas. He was the head religious leader. The teachers of the Law and the other leaders were gathered there.

Los que prendieron a Jesús le llevaron ante el sumo sacerdote Caifás, adonde estaban reunidos los escribas y los ancianos.

58 B ut Peter followed Him a long way behind while going to the house of the head religious leader. Then he went in and sat with the helpers to see what would happen.

Y Pedro le seguía de lejos hasta el patio del palacio del sumo sacerdote; y entrando, se sentó con los guardias, para ver el final.

59 T he religious leaders and the other leaders and all the court were looking for false things to say against Jesus. They wanted some reason to kill Him.

Los principales sacerdotes y los ancianos y todo el sanedrín, buscaban un falso testimonio contra Jesús, para entregarle a la muerte,

60 T hey found none, but many came and told false things about Him. At last two came to the front.

y no lo hallaron, aunque se presentaron muchos testigos falsos. Pero al fin llegaron dos testigos falsos,

61 T hey said, “This Man said, ‘I am able to destroy the house of God and build it up again in three days.’”

que dijeron: Éste dijo: Puedo derribar el templo de Dios, y reedificarlo en tres días.

62 T hen the head religious leader stood up. He said to Jesus, “Have You nothing to say? What about the things these men are saying against You?”

Y levantándose el sumo sacerdote, le dijo: ¿No respondes nada? ¿Qué testifican éstos contra ti?

63 J esus said nothing. Then the head religious leader said to Him, “In the name of the living God, I tell You to say the truth. Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God.”

Mas Jesús callaba. Entonces el sumo sacerdote le dijo: Te conjuro por el Dios viviente, que nos digas si eres tú el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios.

64 J esus said to him, “What you said is true. I say to you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated on the right hand of the All-powerful God. You will see Him coming on the clouds of the sky.”

Jesús le dijo: Tú lo has dicho; y además os digo, que a partir de ahora veréis al Hijo del Hombre sentado a la diestra del Poder, y viniendo sobre las nubes del cielo.

65 T hen the head religious leader tore his clothes apart. He said, “He has spoken as if He were God! Do we need other people to speak against Him yet? You have heard Him speak as if He were God!

Entonces el sumo sacerdote se rasgó las vestiduras, diciendo: ¡Ha blasfemado! ¿Qué necesidad tenemos ya de testigos? He aquí, ahora mismo habéis oído su blasfemia.

66 W hat do you think?” They said, “He is guilty of death!”

¿Qué os parece? Ellos respondieron y dijeron: ¡Es reo de muerte!

67 T hen they spit on His face. They hit Him with their hands. Others beat Him.

Entonces le escupieron en el rostro, y le dieron de puñetazos, y otros le abofetearon,

68 T hey said, “Tell us, Christ, You Who can tell what is going to happen, who hit You?” Peter Said He Did Not Know Jesus

diciendo: Profetízanos, Cristo, ¿quién es el que te golpeó? Pedro niega a Jesús

69 P eter sat outside in the yard. A young servant-girl came to him. She said, “You were also with Jesus Who is from the country of Galilee!”

Pedro estaba sentado fuera en el patio; y se le acercó una criada, y le dijo: Tú también estabas con Jesús el galileo.

70 B ut Peter lied in front of all of them, saying, “I do not know what you are talking about.”

Mas él lo negó delante de todos, diciendo: No sé lo que dices.

71 A fter he had gone out, another young servant-girl saw him. She said to those standing around, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.”

Al salir él al portal, le vio otra, y dijo a los que estaban allí: También éste estaba con Jesús el nazareno.

72 A gain he lied and swore, “I do not know this Man!”

Pero él negó otra vez con juramento: No conozco a ese hombre.

73 A fter a little while some of the people standing around came up to Peter and said, “For sure, you are one of them. You talk like they do.”

Un poco después, se acercaron los que estaban allí, y le dijeron a Pedro: De seguro que tú también eres uno de ellos, porque hasta tu manera de hablar te descubre.

74 T hen he began to say bad words and swear. He said, “I do not know the Man!” At once a rooster crowed.

Entonces él comenzó a maldecir, y a jurar: No conozco a ese hombre. Y en seguida cantó el gallo.

75 P eter remembered the words Jesus had said to him, “Before a rooster crows, you will say three times you do not know Me.” Peter went outside and cried with loud cries.

Entonces Pedro se acordó de la palabra de Jesús, el cual le había dicho: Antes que cante el gallo, me negarás tres veces. Y saliendo fuera, lloró amargamente.
