1 S arah lived 127 years. These were the years of Sarah’s life.

Y fue la vida de Sara ciento veintisiete años; tantos fueron los años de la vida de Sara.

2 T hen Sarah died in Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan. And Abraham had sorrow for Sarah and cried for her.

Y murió Sara en Quiryat-arbá, que es Hebrón, en la tierra de Canaán; y vino Abraham a hacer duelo por Sara, y a llorarla.

3 T hen Abraham got up from beside his dead wife, and said to the sons of Heth,

Y se levantó Abraham de delante de su muerta, y habló a los hijos de Het, diciendo:

4 “ I am a stranger living among you for a time. Give me some of your land so I may bury my wife.”

Extranjero y advenedizo soy entre vosotros; dadme propiedad para sepultura entre vosotros, y sepultaré mi muerta de delante de mí.

5 T he sons of Heth answered Abraham,

Y respondieron los hijos de Het a Abraham, y le dijeron:

6 “ Listen to us, my lord. You are a powerful ruler among us. Bury your wife in the best of our graves. None of us will keep his grave from you for burying your wife.”

Óyenos, señor nuestro; eres un príncipe de Dios entre nosotros; en lo mejor de nuestros sepulcros sepulta a tu muerta; ninguno de nosotros te negará su sepulcro, ni te impedirá que entierres tu muerta.

7 S o Abraham stood up and bowed to the people of the land, the sons of Heth.

Y Abraham se levantó, y se inclinó al pueblo de aquella tierra, a los hijos de Het,

8 H e said to them, “If you are willing to have me bury my wife, hear me, and ask Zohar’s son Ephron for me.

y habló con ellos, diciendo: Si tenéis voluntad de que yo sepulte mi muerta de delante de mí, oídme, e interceded por mí con Efrón hijo de Zohar,

9 A sk him to give me the grave of Machpelah which he has at the other side of his field. Let him give it to me for the full price in front of you, for a place to bury my wife.”

para que me dé la cueva de Macpelá, que tiene al extremo de su heredad; que por su justo precio me la dé, para posesión de sepultura en medio de vosotros.

10 E phron was sitting among the sons of Heth. So Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham so what he said could be heard by the sons of Heth and all who came in through the gate of his city.

Este Efrón estaba entre los hijos de Het; y respondió Efrón heteo a Abraham, en presencia de los hijos de Het, de todos los que entraban por la puerta de su ciudad, diciendo:

11 H e said, “No, my lord. Listen to me. I give you the field. And I give you the grave that is in it. I give it to you in front of the sons of my people. Bury your wife.”

No, señor mío, óyeme: te doy la heredad, y te doy también la cueva que está en ella; en presencia de los hijos de mi pueblo te la doy; sepulta tu muerta.

12 A braham bowed to the people of the land.

Entonces Abraham se inclinó delante del pueblo de la tierra,

13 H e said to Ephron so that all the people of the land heard it, “Listen to me if you will. I will give you the price of the field. Receive it from me, that I may bury my wife there.”

y respondió a Efrón en presencia del pueblo de la tierra, diciendo: Antes, si te place, te ruego que me oigas. Yo daré el precio de la heredad; tómalo de mí, y sepultaré en ella mi muerta.

14 E phron answered Abraham,

Respondió Efrón a Abraham, diciéndole:

15 “ My lord, listen to me. The land is worth four hundred pieces of silver. What is that between me and you? So bury your wife.”

Señor mío, escúchame: la tierra vale cuatrocientos siclos de plata; ¿qué es esto para ti y para mí? Entierra, pues, tu muerta.

16 A braham listened to Ephron. And Abraham weighed for Ephron the silver which he had said and was heard by the sons of Heth to be the price, four hundred pieces of silver. He weighed it in the same way those who buy and sell weighed it at that time.

Entonces Abraham se convino con Efrón, y pesó Abraham a Efrón el dinero que dijo, en presencia de los hijos de Het, cuatrocientos siclos de plata, de buena ley entre mercaderes.

17 S o Ephron’s field in Machpelah east of Mamre, the field and grave that was in it, and all the trees within the sides of the field, were handed over

Y quedó la heredad de Efrón que estaba en Macpelá al frente de Mamré, la heredad con la cueva que estaba en ella, y todos los árboles que había en la heredad, y en todos sus contornos,

18 t o Abraham for his own. It was handed over in front of the sons of Heth and all who came in through the gate of his city.

como propiedad de Abraham, en presencia de los hijos de Het y de todos los que entraban por la puerta de la ciudad.

19 A fter this, Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the grave of the field of Machpelah east of Mamre (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan.

Después de esto sepultó Abraham a Sara su mujer en la cueva de la heredad de Macpelá al frente Mamré, que es Hebrón, en la tierra de Canaán.

20 T he field and the grave in it were handed over to Abraham by the sons of Heth for a place to bury his wife.

Y quedó la heredad y la cueva que en ella había, de Abraham, como una posesión para sepultura, recibida de los hijos de Het.
