1 T he time for the supper of bread without yeast was near. It was the special religious gathering to remember how the Jews left Egypt.

Estaba cerca la fiesta de los panes sin levadura, que se llama la pascua.

2 T he religious leaders and the teachers of the Law looked for a way to kill Jesus. But they were afraid of the people.

Y los principales sacerdotes y los escribas buscaban cómo acabar con él; pues temían al pueblo.

3 T hen Satan came into the heart of Judas who was called Iscariot. He was one of the twelve followers.

Y entró Satanás en Judas, por sobrenombre Iscariote, el cual era uno del número de los doce;

4 J udas went away and talked with the religious leaders and the leaders of the people. He talked about how he might hand Jesus over to them.

y éste fue y habló con los principales sacerdotes, y con los jefes de la guardia, de cómo se lo entregaría.

5 T hey were glad and promised to pay him money.

Ellos se alegraron, y convinieron en darle dinero.

6 J udas promised to do this and then looked for a way to hand Jesus over when there were no people around. Getting Ready for the Special Supper

Y él consintió plenamente, y buscaba una oportunidad para entregárselo a espaldas del pueblo. Institución de la Cena del Señor

7 T he day of bread without yeast came. It was the day when the lamb had to be killed and given on the altar in worship in the house of God. It was the special religious gathering to remember how the Jews left Egypt.

Llegó el día de los panes sin levadura, en el cual se debía sacrificar el cordero de la pascua.

8 J esus sent Peter and John and said, “Go and get this special supper ready for us that we may eat.”

Y Jesús envió a Pedro y a Juan, diciendo: Id, preparadnos la pascua para que la comamos.

9 T hey said to Him, “Where do You want us to get it ready?”

Ellos le dijeron: ¿Dónde quieres que la preparemos?

10 H e answered, “See, when you go into the city, you will meet a man carrying a jar of water. Follow him into the house where he goes.

Él les dijo: Mirad, al entrar en la ciudad os saldrá al encuentro un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua; seguidle hasta la casa donde entre,

11 S ay to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher asks you, “Where is the room you keep for friends where I may eat this special supper with My followers?”’

y decid al padre de familia de la casa: El Maestro te dice: ¿Dónde está el aposento en el que pueda comer la pascua con mis discípulos?

12 H e will take you to a large room on the second floor with everything in it. Make it ready for us.”

Entonces él os mostrará un gran aposento alto ya dispuesto; preparad allí.

13 T hey went and found everything as Jesus had said. They got ready for the special supper. The First Lord’s Supper

Fueron, pues, y hallaron como les había dicho; y prepararon la pascua.

14 W hen the time came, Jesus sat down with the twelve followers.

Cuando llegó la hora, se sentó a la mesa, y con él los apóstoles.

15 H e said to them, “I have wanted very much to eat this special supper with you to remember how the Jews left Egypt. I have wanted to eat this with you before I suffer.

Y les dijo: ¡Cuánto he deseado comer con vosotros esta pascua antes de padecer!

16 I say to you, I will not eat this special supper again until its true meaning is completed in the holy nation of God.”

Porque os digo que no la comeré ya más, hasta que se cumpla en el reino de Dios.

17 T hen Jesus took the cup and gave thanks. He said, “Take this and pass it to each one.

Y habiendo tomado una copa, dio gracias, y dijo: Tomad esto, y repartidlo entre vosotros;

18 I say to you that I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the holy nation of God comes.”

porque os digo que no beberé ya más del fruto de la vid, hasta que venga el reino de Dios.

19 T hen Jesus took bread and gave thanks and broke it in pieces. He gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you. Do this to remember Me.”

Y tomando el pan, dio gracias, lo partió y les dio, diciendo: Esto es mi cuerpo, que por vosotros es dado; haced esto en memoria de mí.

20 I n the same way, after they had finished the bread, He took the cup. He said, “This cup is My blood of the New Way of Worship which is given for you. Jesus Tells of the One Who Will Hand Him Over

De igual manera, después de haber cenado, tomó la copa, diciendo: Esta copa es el nuevo pacto en mi sangre, que por vosotros se derrama.

21 “ See, the hand of the one who will give Me over to the leaders of the country is on the table with Me.

Mas he aquí, la mano del que me entrega está conmigo en la mesa.

22 T he Son of Man will be taken this way because it has been in God’s plan. But it is bad for that man who hands Him over!”

Y, en verdad, el Hijo del Hombre se va, según lo que está determinado; pero ¡ay de aquel hombre por quien es entregado!

23 T hey began to ask each other which of them would do this. Arguing about Who Is the Greatest

Entonces ellos comenzaron a discutir entre sí, quién de ellos sería, pues, el que iba a hacer esto. La grandeza en el servicio

24 T hey started to argue among themselves about who was thought to be the greatest.

Hubo también entre ellos un altercado sobre quién de ellos parecía ser mayor.

25 J esus said to them, “The kings of the nations show their power to the people. Those who have power over the people are given names of honor.

Pero él les dijo: Los reyes de las naciones se enseñorean de ellas, y los que sobre ellas tienen autoridad son llamados bienhechores;

26 B ut you will not be like that. Let the greatest among you be as the least. Let the leader be as the one who cares for others.

mas no así vosotros, sino sea el mayor entre vosotros como el más joven, y el que dirige, como el que sirve.

27 W ho is greater, the one who is eating at the table, or the one who is caring for him? Is it not the one who is eating at the table? But I am here with you as One Who cares for you. The Followers Will Be Honored

Porque, ¿cuál es mayor, el que se sienta a la mesa, o el que sirve? ¿No es el que se sienta a la mesa? Mas yo estoy entre vosotros como el que sirve.

28 “ You have stayed with Me through all the hard things that have come to Me.

Pero vosotros sois los que habéis permanecido conmigo en mis pruebas.

29 A s My Father has given Me a holy nation, I will give you the right

Yo, pues, os asigno un reino, como mi Padre me lo asignó a mí,

30 t o eat and drink at My table in My holy nation. You will sit on thrones and judge the twelve family groups of the Jewish nation.” Jesus Tells How Peter Will Lie about Him

para que comáis y bebáis a mi mesa en mi reino; y os sentaréis en tronos juzgando a las doce tribus de Israel. Jesús anuncia la negación de Pedro

31 T he Lord said, “Simon, Simon, listen! Satan has wanted to have you. He will divide you as wheat is divided from that which is no good.

Dijo también el Señor: Simón, Simón, he aquí que Satanás ha solicitado poder para zarandearos como a trigo;

32 B ut I have prayed for you. I have prayed that your faith will be strong and that you will not give up. When you return, you must help to make your brothers strong.”

pero yo he rogado por ti, que tu fe no falle; y tú, cuando te hayas vuelto, fortalece a tus hermanos.

33 P eter said to Jesus, “Lord, I am ready to go to prison and to die with You!”

Él le dijo: Señor, estoy dispuesto a ir contigo no sólo a la cárcel, sino también a la muerte.

34 J esus said, “I tell you, Peter, a rooster will not crow today before you will say three times that you do not know Me.” The Followers Are Told of Trouble to Come

Y él dijo: Pedro, te aseguro que el gallo no cantará hoy antes que tú hayas negado tres veces que me conoces. Bolsa, alforja y espada

35 J esus said to them, “I sent you without money or bag or shoes. Did you need anything?” They said, “Nothing.”

Y les dijo: Cuando os envié sin bolsa, sin alforja, y sin calzado, ¿acaso os faltó algo? Ellos dijeron: Nada.

36 T hen He said to them, “But now whoever has a money-bag and a bag for food should take it. Whoever does not have a sword should sell his coat and buy one.

Entonces les dijo: Pues ahora, el que tiene bolsa, tómela, y también la alforja; y el que no tenga, venda su manto y compre una espada.

37 I tell you, that what has been written about Me must happen. It says, ‘They thought of Him as One Who broke the Law.’ What is told about Me must happen.”

Porque os digo que es necesario que se cumpla todavía en mí aquello que está escrito: Y fue contado con los inicuos; porque lo que se refiere a mí, tiene cumplimiento.

38 T hey said, “Lord, look, we have two swords.” He answered, “That is enough.” Jesus Prays in the Garden

Entonces ellos dijeron: Señor, aquí hay dos espadas. Y él les dijo: ¡Basta! Jesús ora en Getsemaní

39 J esus came out of the room. Then He went to the Mount of Olives as He had been doing. The followers went with Him.

Y saliendo, se fue, como solía, al monte de los Olivos; y sus discípulos también le siguieron.

40 W hen He got there, He said to them, “Pray that you will not be tempted.”

Cuando llegó a aquel lugar, les dijo: Orad que no entréis en tentación.

41 H e walked away from them about as far as a stone can be thrown. There He got down with His face on the ground and prayed.

Y él se apartó de ellos a una distancia como de un tiro de piedra; y puesto de rodillas, oraba,

42 H e said, “Father, if it can be done, take away what must happen to Me. Even so, not what I want, but what You want.”

diciendo: Padre, si quieres, aparta de mí esta copa; pero no se haga mi voluntad, sino la tuya.

43 A n angel from heaven came and gave Him strength.

Y se le apareció un ángel del cielo para fortalecerle.

44 H is heart was much troubled and He prayed all the more. Water ran from His face like blood and fell to the ground.

Y estando en agonía, oraba más intensamente; y era su sudor como grandes gotas de sangre engrumecidas que caían sobre la tierra.

45 W hen Jesus got up after praying, He went back to the followers. He found them sleeping because of so much sorrow.

Cuando se levantó de la oración, y vino a sus discípulos, los halló durmiendo a causa de la tristeza;

46 H e said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you will not be tempted.” Jesus Is Handed Over to Sinners

y les dijo: ¿Por qué dormís? Levantaos, y orad para que no entréis en tentación. Arresto de Jesús

47 W hile Jesus was speaking, Judas came walking ahead of many people. He was one of the twelve followers. He came near to Jesus to kiss Him.

Mientras él aún estaba hablando, se presentó un grupo de gente; y el que se llamaba Judas, uno de los doce, iba delante de ellos; y se acercó hasta Jesús para besarle.

48 B ut Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you handing over the Son of Man with a kiss?”

Entonces Jesús le dijo: Judas, ¿con un beso entregas al Hijo del Hombre?

49 T hose around Jesus saw what was going to happen and asked, “Lord, should we fight with our swords?”

Viendo los que estaban con él lo que había de acontecer, le dijeron: Señor, ¿heriremos a espada?

50 O ne of them hit a servant who was owned by the head religious leader and cut off his right ear.

Y uno de ellos hirió al siervo del sumo sacerdote, y le cortó la oreja derecha.

51 J esus said, “Stop! This is enough.” And He put His hand on his ear and healed him. Jesus Stands in Front of the Religious Leaders

Entonces tomó la palabra Jesús, y dijo: ¡Dejad! ¡Basta ya! Y tocándole la oreja, le sanó.

52 J esus said to the religious leaders and the leaders of the house of God and the other leaders who came to Him, “Have you come with swords and sticks to take Me, as if I were a robber?

Y Jesús dijo a los principales sacerdotes, a los jefes de la guardia del templo y a los ancianos, que habían venido contra él: ¿Como contra un ladrón habéis salido con espadas y palos?

53 W hile I was with you everyday in the house of God, you never took hold of Me. But now is the time you are to come and you have come in the dark.”

Estando con vosotros cada día en el templo, no extendisteis las manos contra mí; pero ésta es vuestra hora, y la potestad de las tinieblas. Pedro niega a Jesús

54 T hen they led Jesus away to the house of the head religious leader. Peter followed a long way behind Him. Peter Said He Did Not Know Jesus

Y prendiéndole, se lo llevaron, y le condujeron a casa del sumo sacerdote. Y Pedro le seguía de lejos.

55 T hey built a fire in the yard and sat down. Peter sat down with them.

Y después de encender fuego en medio del patio, y de sentarse juntos, Pedro se sentó entre ellos.

56 O ne of the servant-girls saw Peter as he sat by the fire and looked right at him. She said, “This man was with Jesus also.”

Pero una criada, al verle sentado junto a la lumbre se fijó en él, y dijo: También éste estaba con él.

57 P eter lied and said, “Woman, I do not know Him.”

Pero él le negó, diciendo: Mujer, no lo conozco.

58 A fter awhile another person saw him and said, “You are one of them also.” Peter said, “No, sir, I am not.”

Un poco después, viéndole otro, dijo: Tú también eres de ellos. Y Pedro dijo: Hombre, no lo soy.

59 A bout an hour later another person said the same thing, “For sure, this man was with Jesus also because he is from Galilee.”

Pasada como una hora, otro insistía, diciendo: Verdaderamente también éste estaba con él, porque también es galileo.

60 B ut Peter said, “Sir, I do not know what you are saying.” And at once, while he was talking, a rooster crowed.

Y Pedro dijo: Hombre, no sé lo que dices. Y en seguida, mientras él todavía estaba hablando, cantó un gallo.

61 T he Lord turned and looked at Peter. He remembered the Lord had said, “Before a rooster crows, you will say three times that you do not know Me.”

Entonces, se volvió el Señor y miró a Pedro; y Pedro se acordó de la palabra del Señor, como le había dicho: Antes que el gallo cante, me negarás tres veces.

62 P eter went outside and cried with a troubled heart.

Y saliendo afuera, lloró amargamente. Cristo, escarnecido y azotado

63 T hose who watched Jesus so He could not get away made fun of Him and beat Him.

Los hombres que tenían preso a Jesús, se burlaban de él y le golpeaban;

64 T hey covered His eyes with a cloth and asked Him, “Tell us who hit You!”

y vendándole los ojos, le golpeaban el rostro, y le preguntaban, diciendo: ¡Adivina!, ¿quién es el que te ha golpeado?

65 T hey said many other bad things against Jesus.

Y le decían otras muchas cosas injuriándole. Jesús ante el sanedrín

66 W hen it was morning the leaders of the people and the religious leaders and the teachers of the Law got together. They took Jesus to the court of the religious leader. They said,

Cuando se hizo de día, se reunió el consejo de ancianos del pueblo, tanto los principales sacerdotes como los escribas, y le trajeron al lugar de su sanedrín, diciendo:

67 “ Tell us if you are the Christ.” He said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe Me.

Si eres tú el Cristo, dínoslo. Y les dijo: Si os lo digo, de ningún modo lo creeréis;

68 I f I ask you something, you will not tell Me.

y también si os pregunto, no me responderéis, ni me soltaréis.

69 F rom now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the All-powerful God.”

Pero desde ahora en adelante el Hijo del Hombre estará sentado a la diestra del poder de Dios.

70 T hey all said, “Then are You the Son of God?” He said, “You say that I am.”

Dijeron todos: ¿Luego tú eres el Hijo de Dios? Y él les dijo: Vosotros lo decís; lo soy.

71 T hen they said, “What other word do we need against Him? We have heard Him say this with His own mouth.”

Entonces ellos dijeron: ¿Qué necesidad tenemos ya de testimonio?, porque nosotros mismos lo hemos oído de su boca.
