1 T hen Ruth’s mother-in-law Naomi said to her, “My daughter, should I not look for a home for you, so all will be well with you?

Después le dijo su suegra Noemí: Hija mía, ¿no he de buscar hogar para ti donde te vaya bien?

2 I s not Boaz of our family, with whose women servants you were? See, he is dividing the grain from the waste at his grain-floor tonight.

¿No es Booz nuestro pariente, con cuyas criadas tú has estado? He aquí que él avienta esta noche la parva de las cebadas.

3 S o wash yourself. Pour oil on yourself and wear your best clothes. Then go down to the grain-floor. But do not let the man know who you are until he has finished eating and drinking.

Lávate, pues, y úngete, y vistiéndote tus vestidos, vete a la era; mas no te des a conocer al varón hasta que él haya acabado de comer y de beber.

4 W hen he lies down, watch where he lies. Go in and take the covers off his feet and lie down. Then he will tell you what to do.”

Y cuando él se acueste, notarás el lugar donde se acueste, e irás y descubrirás sus pies, y te acostarás allí; y él te dirá lo que hayas de hacer.

5 R uth said to her, “I will do all that you say.”

Y ella respondió: Haré todo lo que tú me mandes.

6 S o Ruth went down to the grain-floor and did all her mother-in-law had told her to do.

Descendió, pues, a la era, e hizo todo lo que su suegra le había mandado.

7 W hen Boaz had finished eating and drinking and his heart was happy, he went to lie down beside the grain. Then Ruth came in secret. She took the covers off his feet and lay down.

Y cuando Booz hubo comido y bebido, y su corazón estuvo contento, se retiró a dormir a un lado del montón. Entonces ella vino calladamente, y le descubrió los pies y se acostó.

8 T he man was surprised late in the night. He turned and saw that a woman was lying at his feet.

Y aconteció que a la medianoche se estremeció aquel hombre, y se volvió; y he aquí, una mujer estaba acostada a sus pies.

9 H e said, “Who are you?” She answered, “I am Ruth, your woman servant. Spread your covering over me. For you are of our family.”

Entonces él dijo: ¿Quién eres tú? Y ella respondió: Yo soy Rut tu sierva; extiende el borde de tu capa sobre tu sierva, por cuanto eres pariente cercano.

10 A nd Boaz said, “May the Lord bring good to you, my daughter. You have shown your last kindness to be better than your first by not going after young men, with or without riches.

Y él dijo: Bendita seas tú de Jehová, hija mía; has hecho mejor tu postrera gracia que la primera, no yendo en busca de los jóvenes, sean pobres o ricos.

11 N ow my daughter, do not be afraid. I will do for you whatever you ask. For all my people in the city know that you are a good woman.

Ahora, pues, no temas, hija mía; yo haré contigo lo que tú digas, pues toda la gente de mi pueblo sabe que eres mujer virtuosa.

12 I t is true that I am of your family. But there is one closer than I.

Y ahora, aunque es cierto que yo soy pariente cercano, con todo eso hay un pariente más cercano que yo.

13 S tay this night. In the morning, if he will have you for his own, let him take you. But if he does not want to have you, then I will take you, as the Lord lives. Lie down until morning.”

Pasa aquí la noche, y cuando sea de día, si él te redime, bien, redímate; mas si él no te quiere redimir, yo te redimiré, vive Jehová. Descansa, pues, hasta la mañana.

14 S o Ruth lay at his feet until morning. She got up before the people could see each other. For Boaz said, “Do not let it be known that the woman came to the grain-floor.”

Y después que durmió a sus pies hasta la mañana, se levantó antes de que los hombres pudieran reconocerse unos a otros; porque él dijo: No se sepa que vino la mujer a la era.

15 A nd he said, “Bring the coat you are wearing and hold it out.” So she held it, and he loaded her with six jars full of grain. Then she went into the city.

Después le dijo: Quítate el manto que traes sobre ti, y sostenlo. Ella lo sostuvo y él midió seis medidas de cebada, y se las puso encima; y ella se fue a la ciudad.

16 W hen she came to her mother-in-law, Naomi said, “How did it go, my daughter?” And Ruth told her all that the man had done for her.

Y cuando llegó adonde estaba su suegra, ésta le dijo: ¿Qué hay, hija mía? Y le contó ella todo lo que con aquel varón le había acontecido.

17 S he said, “He gave me these six jars full of grain. For he said, ‘Do not go to your mother-in-law with empty hands.’”

Y dijo: Estas seis medidas de cebada me dio, diciéndome: A fin de que no vayas a tu suegra con las manos vacías.

18 N aomi said, “Wait until you know what is going to happen, my daughter. For the man will not rest until the thing is decided upon today.”

Entonces Noemí dijo: Estate tranquila, hija mía, hasta ver cómo acaba la cosa; porque ese hombre no descansará hasta terminar hoy mismo este asunto.
