1 A grippa said to Paul, “You may now speak for yourself.” Paul lifted his hand and started to talk,

Entonces Agripa dijo a Pablo: Se te permite hablar a tu favor. Pablo entonces, extendiendo la mano, comenzó así su defensa:

2 “ King Agrippa, the Jews have said many things against me. I am happy to be able to tell you my side of the story.

Me tengo por dichoso, oh rey Agripa, de que haya de defenderme hoy delante de ti de todas las cosas de que soy acusado por los judíos.

3 Y ou know all about the Jewish ways and problems. So I ask you to listen to me until I have finished.

Sobre todo, porque tú conoces bien todas las costumbres y cuestiones que hay entre los judíos; por lo cual te ruego que me oigas con paciencia. Vida pasada de Pablo

4 “ All the Jews know about my life from the time I was a boy until now. I lived among my own people in Jerusalem.

Mi vida, pues, desde mi juventud, la cual desde el principio pasé en mi nación, en Jerusalén, la saben todos los judíos;

5 I f they would tell what they know, they would say that I lived the life of a proud religious law-keeper. I was in the group of proud religious law-keepers who tried to obey every law.

los cuales me conocen desde mucho tiempo atrás, si quieren testificarlo, que conforme a la más rigurosa secta de nuestra religión, viví como fariseo.

6 “ And now I am on trial here because I trust the promise God made to our fathers.

Y ahora, por la esperanza de la promesa que hizo Dios a nuestros padres, estoy sometido a juicio;

7 T his promise is what our twelve family groups of the Jewish nation hope to see happen. They worship God day and night. King Agrippa, it is because of this hope that they are saying things against me.

promesa cuyo cumplimiento esperan alcanzar nuestras doce tribus, rindiendo culto constantemente a Dios de día y de noche. Por esta esperanza, oh rey Agripa, soy acusado por los judíos.

8 W hy do you think it is hard to believe that God raises people from the dead?

¡Qué! ¿Se juzga entre vosotros como cosa increíble el que Dios resucite a los muertos? Pablo el perseguidor

9 “ I used to think I should work hard against the name of Jesus of Nazareth.

Pues también yo había creído mi deber hacer muchas cosas contra el nombre de Jesús de Nazaret;

10 I did that in Jerusalem. I put many of the followers in prison. The head religious leaders gave me the right and the power to do it. Then when the followers were killed, I said it was all right.

y esto es precisamente lo que hice en Jerusalén. Yo encerré en cárceles a muchos de los santos, habiendo recibido poderes de los principales sacerdotes; y cuando los mataban, yo di mi voto.

11 I beat them and tried to make them speak against God in all the Jewish places of worship. In my fight against them, I kept going after them even into cities in other countries.

Y muchas veces, castigándolos en todas las sinagogas, los forzaba a blasfemar; y enfurecido sobremanera contra ellos, los perseguía hasta en las ciudades extranjeras. Pablo relata su conversión

12 “ When I was going to Damascus to do this, I had the right and the power from the head religious leaders to make it hard for the followers.

Ocupado en esto, iba yo a Damasco con poderes y comisión de los principales sacerdotes,

13 I was on the road at noon. King Agrippa, I saw a light from heaven brighter than the sun. It was shining around me and the men with me.

cuando a mediodía, oh rey, yendo por el camino, vi una luz del cielo que sobrepasaba al resplandor del sol, la cual me rodeó a mí y a los que iban conmigo.

14 W e all fell to the ground. Then I heard a voice speaking to me in the Jewish language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you working so hard against Me? You hurt yourself by trying to hurt Me.’

Y habiendo caído todos nosotros en tierra, oí una voz que me hablaba, y decía en lengua hebrea: Saulo, Saulo, ¿por qué me persigues? Dura cosa te es dar coces contra el aguijón.

15 I said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And He said, ‘I am Jesus, the One you are working against.

Yo entonces dije: ¿Quién eres, Señor? Y el Señor dijo: Yo soy Jesús, a quien tú persigues.

16 G et up. Stand on your feet. I have chosen you to work for Me. You will tell what you have seen and you will say what I want you to say. This is the reason I have allowed you to see Me.

Pero levántate, y ponte sobre tus pies; porque para esto me he aparecido a ti, para designarte ministro y testigo de las cosas que has visto, y de aquellas en que me apareceré a ti,

17 I will keep you safe from the Jews and from the people who are not Jews. I am sending you to these people.

librándote de tu pueblo, y de los gentiles, a quienes ahora te envío,

18 Y ou are to open their eyes. You are to turn them from darkness to light. You are to turn them from the power of Satan to the power of God. In this way, they may have their sins forgiven. They may have what is given to them, along with all those who are set apart for God by having faith in Me.’

para que abras sus ojos, a fin de que se conviertan de las tinieblas a la luz, y de la potestad de Satanás a Dios; para que reciban, por la fe que es en mí, perdón de pecados y herencia entre los santificados. Pablo obedece a la visión

19 “ King Agrippa, I obeyed what I saw from heaven.

Por lo cual, oh rey Agripa, no fui rebelde a la visión celestial,

20 F irst I told what I saw to those in Damascus and then in Jerusalem. I told it through all the country of Judea. I even preached to the people who are not Jews that they should be sorry for their sins and turn from them to God. I told them they should do things to show they are sorry for their sins.

sino que anuncié primeramente a los que están en Damasco, y Jerusalén, y por toda la tierra de Judea, y a los gentiles, que se arrepintiesen y se convirtiesen a Dios, haciendo obras dignas de arrepentimiento.

21 “ That is why the Jews took hold of me in the house of God and tried to kill me.

Por causa de esto los judíos, prendiéndome en el templo, intentaron matarme.

22 G od has helped me. To this day I have told these things to the people who are well-known and to those not known. I have told only what the early preachers and Moses said would happen.

Pero habiendo obtenido auxilio de Dios, persevero hasta el día de hoy, dando testimonio a pequeños y a grandes, no diciendo nada fuera de las cosas que los profetas y Moisés dijeron que habían de suceder:

23 I t was that Christ must suffer and be the first to rise from the dead. He would give light to the Jews and to the other nations.”

Que el Cristo había de padecer, y que siendo el primero de la resurrección de los muertos, iba a anunciar luz al pueblo y a los gentiles. Pablo exhorta a Agripa a que crea

24 A s Paul was speaking for himself, Festus cried out in a loud voice, “Paul, you are crazy! All your learning keeps you from thinking right!”

Al decir él estas cosas en su defensa, Festo dijo a gran voz: Estás loco, Pablo; las muchas letras te están llevando a la locura.

25 P aul said, “Most respected Festus, I am not crazy. I am speaking the truth!

Mas él dijo: No estoy loco, excelentísimo Festo, sino que pronuncio palabras de verdad y de cordura.

26 T he king knows about all this. I am free to speak to him in plain words. Nothing I have said is new to him. These things happened where everyone saw them.

Pues el rey sabe bien estas cosas, delante de quien también hablo con toda confianza. Porque no pienso que se le oculte nada de esto; pues no se ha hecho esto en un rincón.

27 K ing Agrippa, do you believe the writings of the early preachers? I know that you believe them.”

¿Crees, oh rey Agripa, a los profetas? Yo sé que crees.

28 T hen Agrippa said to Paul, “In this short time you have almost proven to me that I should become a Christian!”

Entonces Agripa dijo a Pablo: Por poco me persuades a hacerme cristiano.

29 P aul said, “My prayer to God is that you and all who hear me today would be a Christian as I am, only not have these chains!”

Y Pablo dijo: ¡Quisiera Dios que por poco o por mucho, no solamente tú, sino también todos los que hoy me oyen, fueseis hechos tales cual yo soy, excepto estas cadenas!

30 K ing Agrippa and Festus and Bernice and those who sat with them got up.

Entonces se levantó el rey, y el gobernador, y Berenice, y los que se habían sentado con ellos;

31 A s they left the courtroom, they said to each other, “This man has done nothing for which he should be kept in prison or be put to death.”

y cuando se retiraron aparte, hablaban entre sí, diciendo: Ninguna cosa digna ni de muerte ni de prisión está practicando este hombre.

32 A grippa told Festus, “This man could go free if he had not asked to be sent to Caesar.”

Y Agripa dijo a Festo: Podría este hombre ser puesto en libertad, si no hubiera apelado a César.
