1 T he Lord said to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan near Jericho,

Habló Jehová a Moisés en los campos de Moab, junto al Jordán frente a Jericó, diciendo:

2 “ Tell the people of Israel to give the Levites cities to live in from the land they receive. And give the Levites fields around the cities.

Manda a los hijos de Israel que den a los levitas, de la posesión de su heredad, ciudades en que habiten; también daréis a los levitas los lugares de pasto en los contornos de esas ciudades.

3 T he cities will be theirs to live in. Their fields will be for their cattle and flocks and for all their animals.

Y tendrán ellos las ciudades para habitar, y los contornos de ellas serán para sus animales, para sus ganados y para todas sus bestias.

4 T he fields you give the Levites should be around the cities, from the city walls out 500 long steps.

Y los contornos de las ciudades que daréis a los levitas serán mil codos alrededor, desde el muro de la ciudad para afuera.

5 A nd you should number 1, 000 long steps from the city on the east side, on the south side, on the west side, and on the north side, with the city in the center. These fields around the cities will belong to them for their animals.

Luego mediréis fuera de la ciudad al lado del oriente dos mil codos, al lado del sur dos mil codos, al lado del occidente dos mil codos, y al lado del norte dos mil codos, y la ciudad estará en medio; esto tendrán por los ejidos de las ciudades.

6 T he cities you give the Levites will be the six cities where people can go to be safe. They will be where a man may run to if he has killed another person. And give them forty-two other cities, added to these.

Y de las ciudades que daréis a los levitas, seis ciudades serán de refugio, las cuales daréis para que el homicida se refugie allá; y además de éstas daréis cuarenta y dos ciudades.

7 G ive forty-eight cities in all to the Levites, together with their fields.

Todas las ciudades que daréis a los levitas serán cuarenta y ocho ciudades con sus ejidos.

8 T ake more cities from the larger families of Israel to give to the Levites. And take less cities from the smaller families. Each should give some of its cities to the Levites by how much land is received.” The Cities to Be a Safe Place

Y en cuanto a las ciudades que deis de la heredad de los hijos de Israel, de la tribu que tiene mucho tomaréis mucho, y de la que tiene poco tomaréis poco; cada uno dará de sus ciudades a los levitas según la posesión que heredará. Ciudades de refugio

9 T hen the Lord said to Moses,

Habló Jehová a Moisés, diciendo:

10 “ Say to the people of Israel, ‘When you cross the Jordan into the land of Canaan,

Habla a los hijos de Israel, y diles: Cuando hayáis pasado al otro lado del Jordán a la tierra de Canaán,

11 c hoose which cities are to be the ones where you can run to be safe. The man who has killed a person without meaning to may run there.

os señalaréis ciudades que sean para vosotros ciudades de refugio, donde huya el homicida que hiere a alguno de muerte sin intención.

12 T he cities will be a safe place for you from the one who wants to punish you. So the one who has killed a person may not die until the people decide if he is guilty or not.

Y os serán aquellas ciudades para refugiarse del vengador, y no morirá el homicida hasta que entre en juicio delante de la congregación.

13 T he cities you give will be your six cities where you can go to be safe.

De las ciudades, pues, que daréis, tendréis seis ciudades de refugio.

14 G ive three cities on the east side of the Jordan and three cities in the land of Canaan. They will be the cities where you can go to be safe.

Tres ciudades daréis a este lado del Jordán, y tres ciudades daréis en la tierra de Canaán, las cuales serán ciudades de refugio.

15 T hese six cities will be safe places for the people of Israel and for the stranger and for the one who visits them. Anyone who kills a person without meaning to may run there.

Estas seis ciudades serán de refugio para los hijos de Israel, y para el extranjero y el que more entre ellos, para que huya allá cualquiera que hiera de muerte a otro sin intención.

16 ‘ But if he killed him with an iron object, then he is guilty. For sure the killer will be put to death.

Si con instrumento de hierro lo hiere y muere, homicida es; el homicida morirá.

17 I f he knocked him down with a stone so that he died, he is guilty. For sure the killer will be put to death.

Y si con piedra en la mano, que pueda dar muerte, lo hiere y muere, homicida es; el homicida morirá.

18 O r if he hit him with a piece of wood in his hand so that he died, he is guilty. For sure the killer will be put to death.

Y si con instrumento de palo en la mano, que pueda dar muerte, lo hiere y muere, homicida es; el homicida morirá.

19 T he man who wants to punish him for the killing will put the killer to death. He will put him to death when he meets him.

El vengador de la sangre dará por su propia mano muerte al homicida; cuando lo encuentre, él lo matará.

20 I f the killer has pushed him because he hated him, or has thrown something at him after waiting for him, and because of this he died,

Y si por odio empujó a su prójimo, o echó sobre él alguna cosa por asechanzas, y muere;

21 o r if he hit him down with his hand because he hated him and killed him, for sure the one who killed him must be put to death. He is guilty. The man who wants to punish him for the killing will put him to death when he meets him.

o por enemistad lo hirió con su mano, y murió, el heridor morirá; es homicida; el vengador de la sangre matará al homicida cuando lo encuentre.

22 ‘ But if he pushed him without planning to and without hating him, or threw something at him without having waited for him,

Mas si casualmente lo empujó sin enemistades, o echó sobre él cualquier instrumento sin asechanzas,

23 o r he threw a stone without seeing him, killing him without hating him or meaning to hurt him,

o bien, sin verlo, hizo caer sobre él alguna piedra que pudo matarlo, y muere, y él no era su enemigo, ni procuraba su mal;

24 t hen the people will decide by these Laws between the killer and the one who wants to punish him.

entonces la congregación juzgará entre el que causó la muerte y el vengador de la sangre conforme a estas leyes;

25 T he people will save the killer from the man who wants to punish him. And they will return him to his city where he had gone to be safe. He will live in it until the death of the head religious leader who was set apart with the holy oil.

y la congregación librará al homicida de mano del vengador de la sangre, y la congregación lo hará volver a su ciudad de refugio, en la cual se había refugiado; y morará en ella hasta que muera el sumo sacerdote, el cual fue ungido con el aceite santo.

26 B ut if the man who killed another person at sometime goes outside his city where he went to be safe,

Mas si el homicida sale fuera de los límites de su ciudad de refugio, en la cual se refugió,

27 t hen the man who wants to punish him will not be guilty of blood if he finds him outside the safe city and kills him.

y el vengador de la sangre le halla fuera del límite de la ciudad de su refugio, y el vengador de la sangre mata al homicida, no se le culpará por ello;

28 B ecause the man should have stayed in his city to be safe until the death of the head religious leader. But after the head religious leader dies, the man who killed another person may return to his own land.

pues en su ciudad de refugio deberá aquél habitar hasta que muera el sumo sacerdote; y después que haya muerto el sumo sacerdote, el homicida volverá a la tierra de su posesión. Ley sobre los testigos y sobre el rescate

29 ‘ These things will be a Law to you and to all your children-to-come in all your homes.

Estas cosas os serán por ordenanza de derecho por vuestras edades, dondequiera que habitéis.

30 I f anyone kills a person, the killer must be put to death by what is told by those who saw the killing. But no person may be put to death because of what one person says.

Cualquiera que dé muerte a alguno, por dicho de testigos morirá el homicida; mas un solo testigo no hará fe contra una persona para que muera.

31 Y ou must not take pay to save the life of a killer who is guilty of death. But he must be put to death.

Y no tomaréis precio por la vida del homicida, porque está condenado a muerte; indefectiblemente morirá.

32 Y ou must not take pay for him who has run to his city to be safe, so that he may return to live in the land before the death of the religious leader.

Ni tampoco tomaréis precio del que huyó a su ciudad de refugio, para que vuelva a vivir en su tierra, hasta que muera el sumo sacerdote.

33 Y ou must not make the land where you live unclean. The land is not holy when people are killed. And only the blood of him who is guilty can pay to make the land free from the blood that has fallen on it.

Y no contaminaréis la tierra donde estéis; porque esta sangre amancillará la tierra, y la tierra no será expiada de la sangre que fue derramada en ella, sino por la sangre del que la derramó.

34 D o not make the land where you live unclean, in the place where I live. For I the Lord am living among the people of Israel.’”

No contaminéis, pues, la tierra donde habitáis, en medio de la cual yo habito; porque yo Jehová habito en medio de los hijos de Israel.
