1 I t was decided that we should go to the country of Italy by ship. Then they put Paul and some other men in chains. Julius, a captain of Caesar’s army, was to watch them.

Cuando se decidió que habíamos de navegar para Italia, entregaron a Pablo y a algunos otros presos a un centurión llamado Julio, de la compañía Augusta.

2 W e went on a ship that was from the city of Adramyttian. It was going to stop at the towns along the sea-shore of Asia. Aristarchus was with us. He was a man from the city of Thessalonica in the country of Macedonia.

Y embarcándonos en una nave adramitena que estaba para zarpar hacia los puertos de Asia, nos hicimos a la mar, estando con nosotros Aristarco, macedonio de Tesalónica.

3 T he next day we stopped in the city of Sidon. Julius was kind to Paul. He let him visit friends who cared for him.

Al otro día llegamos a Sidón; y Julio, tratando humanamente a Pablo, le permitió que fuese a los amigos, para ser atendido por ellos.

4 A fter leaving Sidon we were blown by the wind along the south side of the island of Cyprus. The wind was against us.

Y haciéndonos a la vela desde allí, navegamos a sotavento de Chipre, porque los vientos eran contrarios.

5 W e crossed the sea along the countries of Cilicia and Pamphylia and got to the city of Myra in the country of Lycia.

Habiendo atravesado el mar frente a Cilicia y Panfilia, arribamos a Mira, ciudad de Licia.

6 T he captain found a ship from the city of Alexandria that was going to the country of Italy. He put us on it.

Y hallando allí el centurión una nave alejandrina que zarpaba para Italia, nos embarcó en ella.

7 F or many days the ship did not move fast. It was hard to get to the city of Cnidus. The wind would not let us go on. So we went along the south shore of the island of Crete and passed the end of the island called Salome.

Navegando muchos días despacio, y llegando a duras penas frente a Gnído, como el viento no nos permitía más, navegamos a sotavento de Creta, frente a Salmona.

8 T he wind was against us, and we did not sail very fast. Then we came to a place called Fair Havens. It was near the city of Lasea.

Y costeándola con dificultad, llegamos a un lugar que llaman Buenos Puertos, cerca del cual estaba la ciudad de Lasea.

9 M uch time had been lost. To keep going that late in the year would mean danger. Paul spoke with strong words,

Y habiendo pasado mucho tiempo, y siendo ya peligrosa la navegación, por haber pasado ya el ayuno, Pablo les amonestaba,

10 “ Sirs, it looks to me as if this ship and its freight will be lost. We are in danger of being lost also.”

diciéndoles: Varones, veo que la navegación va a ser con perjuicio y mucha pérdida, no sólo del cargamento y de la nave, sino también de nuestras personas.

11 T he captain of the soldiers listened to what the captain of the ship said and not to what Paul said.

Pero el centurión daba más crédito al piloto y al patrón de la nave, que a lo que Pablo decía.

12 I t was not a good place to spend the winter. Most of those on the ship wanted to go on and try to get to Phoenix. Crete was a good place to tie up the ship. They wanted to spend the winter there.

Y siendo el puerto inadecuado para invernar, la mayoría acordó zarpar también de allí, por si pudiesen arribar a Fénice, puerto de Creta que mira al sudoeste y noroeste, e invernar allí. La tempestad en el mar

13 W hen a south wind started to blow, they thought their plan was right. They pulled up the anchor and went close to the shore of Crete.

Y soplando una brisa del sur, pareciéndoles que ya habían conseguido su propósito, levaron anclas e iban costeando Creta.

14 L ater a bad wind storm came down from the land. It was called a northeaster.

Pero no mucho después dio contra la nave un viento huracanado llamado Euroclidón.

15 T he ship was stopped by the wind. After awhile we gave up and let it go with the wind.

Y siendo arrastrada la nave, y no pudiendo poner proa al viento, nos abandonamos a él y nos dejamos llevar.

16 W e went behind a small island called Claudia. It was hard work but we were able to make the ship’s boat safe.

Y habiendo corrido a sotavento de una pequeña isla llamada Clauda, con dificultad pudimos hacernos con el esquife.

17 T hey pulled it up and tied ropes around it and the ship. They were afraid of going on the Syrtis sands. So they took the sail down and let the ship go with the wind.

Y una vez subido a bordo, usaron de refuerzos para ceñir la nave; y teniendo temor de dar en la Sirte, arriaron las velas y quedaron a la deriva.

18 T he storm was so bad the high waves were beating against the ship. The next day the men threw some of the freight over into the sea.

Pero siendo combatidos por una furiosa tempestad, al día siguiente empezaron a aligerar la nave,

19 O n the third day, with their own hands, they threw part of the sails and ropes into the sea.

y al tercer día con nuestras propias manos arrojamos los aparejos de la nave.

20 W e did not see the sun or stars for many days. A very bad storm kept beating against us. We lost all hope of being saved. Paul Shows His Faith

Y no apareciendo ni sol ni estrellas por muchos días, y acosados por una tempestad no pequeña, ya se fue perdiendo toda esperanza de salvarnos.

21 N o one had eaten for a long time. Then Paul stood up and said to them, “Men, you should have listened to me and not left Crete. You would not have had this trouble and loss.

Entonces Pablo, como hacía ya mucho que no comíamos, puesto en pie en medio de ellos, dijo: Debíais, oh varones, haberme hecho caso, y no zarpar de Creta tan sólo para recibir este perjuicio y pérdida.

22 B ut now I want you to take hope. No one will lose his life. Only the ship will be lost.

Pero ahora os exhorto a tener buen ánimo, pues no habrá ninguna pérdida de vida entre vosotros, sino solamente de la nave.

23 I belong to God and I work for Him. Last night an angel of God stood by me

Porque esta noche ha estado conmigo el ángel del Dios de quien soy y a quien sirvo,

24 a nd said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand in front of Caesar. God has given you the lives of all the men on this ship.’

y me ha dicho: Pablo, no temas; es menester que comparezcas ante César; y mira, Dios te ha concedido todos los que navegan contigo.

25 S o take hope, men. I believe my God will do what He has told me.

Por tanto, oh varones, tened buen ánimo; porque yo confío en Dios que acontecerá exactamente como se me ha dicho.

26 B ut the ship will be lost on some island.”

Con todo, tenemos que encallar en cierta isla.

27 I t was now the fourteenth night. We were going with the wind on the Adriatic Sea. At midnight the sailors thought land was near.

Cuando llegó la decimocuarta noche, y éramos llevados a través del mar Adriático, a la medianoche los marineros comenzaron a presentir que estaban cerca de tierra;

28 T hey let down the lead weight and found the water was not very deep. After they had gone a little farther, they found there was not as much water.

y echando la sonda, hallaron veinte brazas; y pasando un poco más adelante, volviendo a echar la sonda, hallaron quince brazas.

29 T hey were afraid we might be thrown against the rocks on the shore. So they put out four anchors from the back of the ship. Then they waited for morning to come.

Y temiendo dar en escollos, echaron cuatro anclas por la popa, y ansiaban que se hiciese de día.

30 T he sailors were thinking of leaving the ship. They let down a boat as if they were going to put out anchors from the front of the ship.

Pero como los marineros procuraban huir de la nave, y habían echado el esquife al mar, aparentando como que iban a tender las anclas de proa,

31 B ut Paul said to the captain and the soldiers, “These men must stay on the ship or you cannot be safe!”

dijo Pablo al centurión y a los soldados: Si éstos no permanecen en la nave, vosotros no podéis salvaros.

32 T hen the soldiers cut the ropes and let the boat fall into the sea.

Entonces los soldados cortaron las amarras del esquife y lo dejaron perderse.

33 J ust before the light of day came, Paul told all of them to eat. He said, “Today is the fourteenth day you have not eaten.

Y hasta que empezó a hacerse de día, Pablo exhortaba a todos a que comiesen, diciendo: Éste es el decimocuarto día que veláis y permanecéis en ayunas, sin haber comido nada.

34 Y ou must eat. It will give you strength. Not one of you will lose a hair from your head.”

Por tanto, os ruego que comáis algo, porque es conveniente para vuestra salud; pues ni aun un cabello de la cabeza de ninguno de vosotros perecerá.

35 A fter he said this, he took some bread. He gave thanks to God in front of them all. He broke it in pieces and started to eat.

Y habiendo dicho esto, tomó el pan y dio gracias a Dios en presencia de todos, y partiéndolo, comenzó a comer.

36 T hey all were comforted. Each one ate some food.

Entonces todos, teniendo ya mejor ánimo, comieron también.

37 A ll together there were 276 of us on the ship.

Y éramos todas las personas en la nave doscientas setenta y seis.

38 A fter they had eaten, they threw the wheat into the sea so the ship would not be as heavy.

Y ya satisfechos, aligeraron la nave, echando el trigo al mar. El naufragio

39 I n the morning they could not see what land they were near. Later they could see a river. Near its mouth there was a shore of sand. They planned to run the ship onto the sand if they could.

Cuando se hizo de día, no reconocían la tierra, pero divisaban una ensenada que tenía playa, en la cual acordaron varar la nave, si era posible.

40 T he anchors were cut loose and left in the sea. Then they took the ropes off that were holding the rudder. When they put up the sail, the wind took the ship toward shore.

Cortando, pues, las anclas, las dejaron en el mar, largando también las amarras de los timones; e izando al viento la vela de proa, enfilaron hacia la playa.

41 B ut the ship hit a place where the water was low. It was made from where two seas meet. The front of the ship did not move but the back part broke in pieces by the high waves.

Pero dando en un escollo donde se encuentran dos corrientes, hicieron encallar la nave; y la proa se clavó y quedó inmóvil, mientras que la popa se abría con la violencia de las olas.

42 T he soldiers planned to kill the men in chains. They were afraid they would swim to shore and get away,

Entonces los soldados acordaron matar a los presos, para que ninguno se fugase nadando.

43 b ut the captain wanted to save Paul. He kept them from their plan. Calling out to those who could swim, he told them to jump into the sea and swim to shore.

Pero el centurión, queriendo salvar a Pablo, les impidió este intento, y mandó que los que pudiesen nadar se echasen los primeros, y saliesen a tierra;

44 T he others should use wood or anything from the ship. In this way, they all got to shore without getting hurt.

y los demás, parte en tablas, parte en varios objetos procedentes de la nave. Y así aconteció que todos llegamos a tierra sanos y salvos.
