1 T his is the word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord when King Zedekiah sent to him Pashhur the son of Malchijah, and Zephaniah the religious leader, the son of Maaseiah, saying,

La palabra que vino de parte de Jehová a Jeremías, cuando el rey Sedequías envió a él a Pasur, hijo de Malquías, y al sacerdote Sofonías, hijo de Maasías, para que le dijesen:

2 “ Will you speak to the Lord about us? For King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon is making war against us. It may be that the Lord will do something for us like He did in times past, and make him leave us.”

Te ruego que consultes acerca de nosotros a Jehová, porque Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, hace guerra contra nosotros; quizá Jehová hará con nosotros según todas sus maravillas, y aquél se irá de sobre nosotros.

3 T hen Jeremiah said to them, “Say this to Zedekiah:

Y Jeremías les dijo: Diréis así a Sedequías:

4 ‘ The Lord God of Israel says, “See, I will turn against you the objects of war you are using to fight with against the king of Babylon and the Babylonians who are gathered outside the wall to shut you in. And I will bring them into the center of this city.

Así ha dicho Jehová, Dios de Israel: He aquí yo vuelvo atrás las armas de guerra que están en vuestras manos, con que vosotros peleáis contra el rey de Babilonia; y contra los caldeos que están fuera de la muralla y os tienen sitiados, y yo los reuniré en medio de esta ciudad.

5 I Myself will fight against you with My hand out and with a strong arm, in much anger.

Y yo pelearé contra vosotros con mano alzada y con brazo fuerte, con furor y enojo e ira grande.

6 I will kill both man and animal in this city. They will die of a bad disease.

Y heriré a los moradores de esta ciudad, a los hombres y a las bestias juntamente; y morirán de pestilencia grande.

7 A fter this,” says the Lord, “I will give over Zedekiah king of Judah, his servants, and the people who were not killed in this city by the disease, the sword, and hunger. I will give them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of those who hate them, and into the hand of those who want to kill them. And he will kill them with the sword. He will not let them live or have pity for them.”’

Después, dice Jehová, entregaré a Sedequías, rey de Judá, a sus criados, al pueblo y a los que queden de la pestilencia, de la espada y del hambre en la ciudad, en manos de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, en manos de sus enemigos y de los que buscan sus vidas, y él los herirá a filo de espada; no los perdonará, ni tendrá compasión de ellos, ni tendrá de ellos misericordia.

8 “ Also tell the people, ‘The Lord says, “See, I set before you the way of life and the way of death.

Y a este pueblo dirás: Así dice Jehová: He aquí, pongo delante de vosotros camino de vida y camino de muerte.

9 H e who lives in this city will die by the sword and by hunger and by disease. But he who goes out and gives himself up to the Babylonians whose armies shut you in will live, he will at least have his life.

El que quede en esta ciudad morirá a espada, de hambre o de pestilencia; mas el que salga y se pase a los caldeos que os tienen sitiados, vivirá, y su vida le será por despojo.

10 F or I have set My face against this city for trouble and not for good,” says the Lord. “It will be given to the king of Babylon, and he will burn it with fire.”’ Words against Judah

Porque he puesto mi rostro contra esta ciudad para mal, y no para bien, dice Jehová; en manos del rey de Babilonia será entregada, y la quemará a fuego.

11 “ Then say to those of the house of the king of Judah, ‘Hear the Word of the Lord,

Y a la casa del rey de Judá dirás: Oíd palabra de Jehová:

12 O house of David, the Lord says, “Do what is right every morning. Take the person who has been robbed away from the one who has made it hard for him. So My anger will not go out like fire and burn with no one to put it out, because of the sinful things you have done.

Casa de David, así dice Jehová: Haced justicia cada mañana, y librad al oprimido de manos del opresor, para que mi ira no salga como fuego, y se encienda y no haya quien lo apague, por la maldad de vuestras obras.

13 “ See, I am against you, O you who live in the valley, O rock of the plain,” says the Lord, “you who say, ‘Who will come down against us? Or who will come into our houses?’

He aquí, yo estoy contra ti, moradora del valle, y de la roca de la llanura, dice Jehová; los que decís: ¿Quién bajará contra nosotros, y quién entrará en nuestras moradas?

14 I will punish you for what has come of what you have done,” says the Lord. “I will start a fire among your trees, and it will destroy all that is around it.”’”

Yo os castigaré conforme al fruto de vuestras obras, dice Jehová, y haré encender fuego en su bosque, y consumirá todo lo que está alrededor de ella.
