1 T his is the word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord when King Zedekiah sent to him Pashhur the son of Malchijah, and Zephaniah the religious leader, the son of Maaseiah, saying,

A palavra que veio a Jeremias da parte do Senhor, quando o rei Zedequias lhe enviou Pasur, filho de Malquias, e Sofonias, filho de Maaséias, o sacerdote, dizendo:

2 “ Will you speak to the Lord about us? For King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon is making war against us. It may be that the Lord will do something for us like He did in times past, and make him leave us.”

Pergunta agora por nós ao Senhor, por que Nabucodonozor, rei de Babilônia, guerreia contra nós; porventura o Senhor nos tratará segundo todas as suas maravilhas, e fará que o rei se retire de nós.

3 T hen Jeremiah said to them, “Say this to Zedekiah:

Então Jeremias lhes respondeu: Assim direis a Zedequias:

4 ‘ The Lord God of Israel says, “See, I will turn against you the objects of war you are using to fight with against the king of Babylon and the Babylonians who are gathered outside the wall to shut you in. And I will bring them into the center of this city.

Assim diz o Senhor, o Deus de Israel: Eis que virarei contra vos as armas de guerra, que estão nas vossas mãos, com que vós pelejais contra o rei de Babilônia e contra os caldeus, que vos estão sitiando ao redor dos muros, e ajuntá-los-ei no meio desta cidade.

5 I Myself will fight against you with My hand out and with a strong arm, in much anger.

E eu mesmo pelejarei contra vós com mão estendida, e com braço forte, e em ira, e em furor, e em grande indignação.

6 I will kill both man and animal in this city. They will die of a bad disease.

E ferirei os habitantes desta cidade, tanto os homens como os animais; de grande peste morrerão.

7 A fter this,” says the Lord, “I will give over Zedekiah king of Judah, his servants, and the people who were not killed in this city by the disease, the sword, and hunger. I will give them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of those who hate them, and into the hand of those who want to kill them. And he will kill them with the sword. He will not let them live or have pity for them.”’

E depois disso, diz o Senhor, entregarei Zedequias, rei de Judá, e seus servos, e o povo, e os que desta cidade restarem da peste, e da espada, e da fome, sim entregá-los-ei na mão de Nabucodonozor, rei de Babilônia, e na mão de seus inimigos, e na mão dos que procuram tirar-lhes a vida; e ele os passará ao fio da espada; não os poupará, nem se compadecerá, nem terá misericordia.

8 “ Also tell the people, ‘The Lord says, “See, I set before you the way of life and the way of death.

E a este povo dirás: Assim diz o Senhor: Eis que ponho diante de vós o caminho da vida e o caminho da morte.

9 H e who lives in this city will die by the sword and by hunger and by disease. But he who goes out and gives himself up to the Babylonians whose armies shut you in will live, he will at least have his life.

O que ficar nesta cidade há de morrer ã espada, ou de fome, ou de peste; mas o que sair, e se render aos caldeus, que vos cercam, viverá, e terá a sua vida por despojo.

10 F or I have set My face against this city for trouble and not for good,” says the Lord. “It will be given to the king of Babylon, and he will burn it with fire.”’ Words against Judah

Porque pus o meu rosto contra esta cidade para mal, e não para bem, diz o Senhor; na mão do rei de Babilônia se entregará, e ele a queimará a fogo.

11 “ Then say to those of the house of the king of Judah, ‘Hear the Word of the Lord,

E ã casa do rei de Judá dirás: Ouvi a palavra do Senhor:

12 O house of David, the Lord says, “Do what is right every morning. Take the person who has been robbed away from the one who has made it hard for him. So My anger will not go out like fire and burn with no one to put it out, because of the sinful things you have done.

O casa de Davi, assim diz o Senhor: Executai justiça pela manhã, e livrai o espoliado da mão do opressor, para que não saia o meu furor como fogo, e se acenda, sem que haja quem o apague, por causa da maldade de vossas ações.

13 “ See, I am against you, O you who live in the valley, O rock of the plain,” says the Lord, “you who say, ‘Who will come down against us? Or who will come into our houses?’

Eis que eu sou contra ti, ó moradora do vale, ó rocha da campina, diz o Senhor; contra vós que dizeis: Quem descerá contra nós? ou: Quem entrará nas nossas moradas?

14 I will punish you for what has come of what you have done,” says the Lord. “I will start a fire among your trees, and it will destroy all that is around it.”’”

E eu vos castigarei segundo o fruto das vossas ações, diz o Senhor; e no seu bosque acenderei fogo que consumirá a tudo o que está em redor dela.
