1 W hen Jesus had finished all this teaching, He said to His followers,

Cuando Jesús terminó de decir todo esto, dijo a sus discípulos:

2 “ You know that the special religious supper to remember how the Jews left Egypt is in two days. The Son of Man will be handed over to be nailed to a cross.”

«Como ustedes saben, dentro de dos días se celebra la pascua, y el Hijo del Hombre será entregado para ser crucificado.»

3 T he religious leaders and the leaders of the people gathered at the house of the head religious leader. His name was Caiaphas.

Entonces los principales sacerdotes, los escribas, y los ancianos del pueblo se reunieron en el patio de Caifás, el sumo sacerdote,

4 T hey talked together how they might trap Jesus and kill Him.

y se confabularon para aprehender con engaños a Jesús, y matarlo.

5 B ut they said, “This must not happen on the day of the special supper. The people would be against it. They would make much trouble.” Mary of Bethany Puts Special Perfume on Jesus

Pero decían: «Que no sea durante la fiesta, para que no se alborote el pueblo.» Jesús es ungido en Betania

6 J esus was in the town of Bethany in the house of Simon. Simon had a very bad skin disease.

Mientras Jesús estaba en Betania, en casa de Simón el leproso,

7 A woman came with a jar of perfume. She had given much money for this. As Jesus ate, she poured the perfume on His head.

se le acercó una mujer. Llevaba un vaso de alabastro con un perfume muy caro, que derramó sobre la cabeza de Jesús mientras él estaba sentado a la mesa.

8 W hen the followers saw it, they were angry. They said, “Why was this wasted?

Al ver esto, los discípulos se enojaron y dijeron: «¿Pero qué desperdicio es éste?

9 T his perfume could have been sold for much money and given to poor people.”

¡Pudo haberse vendido esto por mucho dinero, y ser dado a los pobres!»

10 J esus knew what they were saying. He said to them, “Why are you giving this woman trouble? She has done a good thing to Me.

Jesús se dio cuenta de esto, y les dijo: «¿Por qué molestan a esta mujer? Lo que ha hecho conmigo es una buena obra.

11 Y ou will have poor people with you all the time. But you will not have Me with you all the time.

Porque ustedes siempre tendrán a los pobres, pero a mí no siempre me tendrán.

12 S he put this perfume on My body to make it ready for the grave.

Lo que ha hecho ella al derramar sobre mí este perfume, es prepararme para la sepultura.

13 F or sure, I tell you, wherever this Good News is preached in all the world, this woman will be remembered for what she has done.” Judas Hands Jesus Over to Be Killed

14 J udas Iscariot was one of the twelve followers. He went to the religious leaders of the Jews.

Entonces Judas Iscariote, que era uno de los doce, fue a ver a los principales sacerdotes,

15 H e said, “What will you pay me if I hand Jesus over to you?” They promised to pay him thirty pieces of silver.

16 F rom that time on Judas looked for a way to hand Jesus over to them. Getting Ready for the Special Supper

17 O n the first day of the supper of bread without yeast the followers came to Jesus. They said, “What place do You want us to make ready for You to eat the supper of the special religious gathering to remember how the Jews left Egypt?”

El primer día de la fiesta de los panes sin levadura, los discípulos se acercaron a Jesús y le preguntaron: «¿Dónde quieres que te preparemos la comida de la pascua?»

18 H e said, “Go into the city to a certain man and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, “My time is near. I will eat the special supper at your house with My followers.”’”

Él les indicó ir a la ciudad, a la casa de cierto hombre, y decirle: «El Maestro dice: “Mi tiempo está cerca. Celebraré la pascua con mis discípulos en tu casa.”»

19 T he followers did as Jesus told them. They made things ready for this special supper. The Last Special Supper

Los discípulos hicieron lo que Jesús les mandó, y prepararon la pascua.

20 W hen evening came, Jesus sat with the twelve followers.

Cuando llegó la noche, Jesús se sentó a la mesa con los doce,

21 A s they were eating, Jesus said, “For sure, I tell you, one of you will hand Me over.”

y mientras comían dijo: «De cierto les digo, que uno de ustedes me va a traicionar.»

22 T hey were very sad. They said to Him one after the other, “Lord, is it I?”

Ellos se pusieron muy tristes, y cada uno comenzó a preguntarle: «¿Soy yo, Señor?»

23 H e said, “The one who will hand Me over is the one who has just put his hand with Mine in the dish.

Él les respondió: «El que mete la mano conmigo en el plato, es el que me va a entregar.

24 T he Son of Man is going away as it is written of Him. It is bad for that man who hands the Son of Man over! It would have been better if he had not been born!”

A decir verdad, el Hijo del Hombre sigue su camino, como está escrito acerca de él, ¡pero ay de aquél que lo traiciona! ¡Más le valdría no haber nacido!»

25 J udas was the one who was handing Jesus over. He said, “Teacher, am I the one?” Jesus said to him, “You have said it.” The First Lord’s Supper

Entonces Judas, el que lo iba a traicionar, le preguntó: «¿Soy yo, Maestro?» Y Jesús le respondió: «Tú lo has dicho.»

26 A s they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread. He gave thanks and broke it in pieces. He gave it to His followers and said, “Take, eat, this is My body.”

Mientras comían, Jesús tomó el pan y lo bendijo; luego lo partió y se lo dio a sus discípulos, y les dijo: «Tomen, coman; esto es mi cuerpo.»

27 T hen He took the cup and gave thanks. He gave it to them and said, “You must all drink from it.

Después tomó la copa, y luego de dar gracias, la entregó a sus discípulos y les dijo: «Beban de ella todos,

28 T his is My blood of the New Way of Worship which is given for many. It is given so the sins of many can be forgiven.

porque esto es mi sangre del nuevo pacto, que es derramada por muchos, para perdón de los pecados.

29 I tell you that I will not drink of the fruit of the vine again until that day when I will drink it new with you in the holy nation of My Father.”

Yo les digo que, desde ahora, no volveré a beber de este fruto de la vid, hasta el día en que beba con ustedes el vino nuevo en el reino de mi Padre.» Jesús anuncia la negación de Pedro

30 A fter they sang a song they went out to the Mount of Olives. Jesus Tells How Peter Will Lie about Him

Luego de cantar el himno, fueron al monte de los Olivos.

31 J esus said to them, “All of you will be ashamed of Me and leave Me tonight. For it is written, ‘I will kill the shepherd and the sheep of the flock will be spread everywhere.’

Allí Jesús les dijo: «Todos ustedes se escandalizarán de mí esta noche, porque está escrito: “Heriré al pastor, y las ovejas del rebaño serán dispersadas.”

32 A fter I am raised from the dead, I will go before you to the country of Galilee.”

Pero después de que yo haya resucitado, iré delante de ustedes a Galilea.»

33 P eter said to Jesus, “Even if all men give up and turn away because of You, I will never.”

Pedro le dijo: «Aunque todos se escandalicen de ti, yo nunca me escandalizaré.»

34 J esus said to him, “For sure, I tell you, before a rooster crows this night, you will say three times you do not know Me.”

Jesús le dijo: «De cierto te digo que esta noche, antes que el gallo cante, me negarás tres veces.»

35 P eter said to Him, “Even if I have to die with You, I will never say I do not know You.” And all the followers said the same thing. Jesus Prays in Gethsemane

Pedro le dijo: «Aun cuando tenga yo que morir contigo, jamás te negaré.» Y todos los discípulos dijeron lo mismo. Jesús ora en Getsemaní

36 J esus came with them to a place called Gethsemane. He said to them, “You sit here while I go over there to pray.”

Entonces Jesús fue con ellos a un lugar que se llama Getsemaní, y dijo a sus discípulos: «Siéntense aquí, mientras yo voy a orar en aquel lugar.»

37 H e took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee with Him. He began to have much sorrow and a heavy heart.

Jesús llevó consigo a Pedro y a los dos hijos de Zebedeo, y comenzó a ponerse triste y muy angustiado.

38 T hen He said to them, “My soul is very sad. My soul is so full of sorrow I am ready to die. You stay here and watch with Me.”

Entonces les dijo: «Quédense aquí, y velen conmigo, porque siento en el alma una tristeza de muerte.»

39 H e went on a little farther and got down with His face on the ground. He prayed, “My Father, if it can be done, take away what is before Me. Even so, not what I want but what You want.”

Unos pasos más adelante, se inclinó sobre su rostro y comenzó a orar. Y decía: «Padre mío, si es posible, haz que pase de mí esta copa. Pero que no sea como yo lo quiero, sino como lo quieres tú.»

40 T hen He came to the followers and found them sleeping. He said to Peter, “Were you not able to watch with Me one hour?

Luego volvió con sus discípulos, y como los encontró durmiendo, le dijo a Pedro: «¿Así que no han podido mantenerse despiertos conmigo ni una hora?

41 W atch and pray so that you will not be tempted. Man’s spirit is willing, but the body does not have the power to do it.”

Manténganse despiertos, y oren, para que no caigan en tentación. A decir verdad, el espíritu está dispuesto, pero la carne es débil.»

42 H e went away again the second time. He prayed, saying, “My Father, if this must happen to Me, may whatever You want be done.”

Otra vez fue y oró por segunda vez, y dijo: «Padre mío, si esta copa no puede pasar de mí sin que yo la beba, que se haga tu voluntad.»

43 H e came and found them asleep again. Their eyes were heavy.

Una vez más fue y los halló durmiendo, porque los ojos se les caían de sueño.

44 H e went away from them the third time and prayed the same prayer.

Entonces los dejó y volvió a irse, y por tercera vez oró con las mismas palabras.

45 T hen He came to His followers and asked them, “Are you still sleeping and getting your rest? As I speak, the time has come when the Son of Man will be handed over to sinners.

Luego volvió con sus discípulos y les dijo: «Sigan durmiendo y descansando. Miren que ha llegado la hora, y el Hijo del Hombre es entregado en manos de pecadores.

46 G et up and let us go. See! The man who will hand Me over is near.” Jesus Handed Over to Sinners

¡Vamos, levántense, que ya se acerca el que me traiciona!» Arresto de Jesús

47 J udas, one of the twelve followers, came while Jesus was talking. He came with many others who had swords and sticks. They came from the religious leaders of the Jews and the leaders of the people.

Todavía estaba hablando Jesús cuando llegó Judas, que era uno de los doce. Con él venía mucha gente armada con espadas y palos, de parte de los principales sacerdotes y de los ancianos del pueblo.

48 T he man who handed Jesus over gave the men something to look for. He said, “The One I kiss is the One you want. Take Him!”

El que lo estaba traicionando les había dado esta contraseña: «Al que yo le dé un beso, ése es; arréstenlo.»

49 A t once Judas went up to Jesus and said, “Hello, Teacher,” and kissed Him.

Enseguida se acercó a Jesús, y le dijo: «¡Hola, Maestro!» Y le dio un beso.

50 J esus said to him, “Friend, do what you came to do.” Then they came and put their hands on Jesus and took Him.

Jesús le dijo: «Amigo, ¿a qué vienes?» Entonces aquellos hombres se acercaron, le echaron mano y lo arrestaron.

51 O ne of those with Jesus took his sword. He hit the servant who was owned by the religious leader and cut off his ear.

Pero uno de los que estaban con Jesús extendió su mano, sacó su espada, e hirió a un siervo del sumo sacerdote, y le cortó una oreja.

52 J esus said to him, “Put your sword back where it belongs. Everyone who uses a sword will die with a sword.

Entonces Jesús le dijo: «Vuelve tu espada a su lugar. Quien esgrime la espada, muere por la espada.

53 D o you not think that I can pray to My Father? At once He would send Me more than 70, 000 angels.

¿No te parece que yo puedo orar a mi Padre, y que él puede mandarme ahora mismo más de doce legiones de ángeles?

54 I f I did, how could it happen as the Holy Writings said it would happen? It must be this way.”

Pero entonces ¿cómo se cumplirían las Escrituras? Porque es necesario que así suceda.»

55 T hen Jesus said to the many people, “Have you come with swords and sticks to take Me as if I were a robber? I have been with you every day teaching in the house of God. You never put your hands on Me then.

En ese momento, Jesús dijo a la gente: «¿Han venido a arrestarme con espadas y palos, como si fuera yo un ladrón? ¡Todos los días me sentaba a enseñarles en el templo, y ustedes no me aprehendieron!

56 B ut this has happened as the early preachers said in the Holy Writings it would happen.” Then all the followers left Him and ran away. Jesus Stands in Front of the Religious Leaders

Pero todo esto sucede, para que se cumpla lo escrito por los profetas.» Entonces todos los discípulos lo abandonaron y huyeron. Jesús ante el concilio

57 T hose who had taken Jesus led Him away to Caiaphas. He was the head religious leader. The teachers of the Law and the other leaders were gathered there.

Los que aprehendieron a Jesús lo llevaron ante el sumo sacerdote Caifás, donde estaban reunidos los escribas y los ancianos.

58 B ut Peter followed Him a long way behind while going to the house of the head religious leader. Then he went in and sat with the helpers to see what would happen.

Pero Pedro lo siguió de lejos hasta el patio del sumo sacerdote, y entró y se sentó con los alguaciles, para ver cómo terminaba aquello.

59 T he religious leaders and the other leaders and all the court were looking for false things to say against Jesus. They wanted some reason to kill Him.

Los principales sacerdotes, y los ancianos y todo el concilio, buscaban algún falso testimonio contra Jesús, para condenarlo a muerte;

60 T hey found none, but many came and told false things about Him. At last two came to the front.

pero no lo hallaron, aunque se presentaron muchos testigos falsos. Finalmente, llegaron dos testigos falsos

61 T hey said, “This Man said, ‘I am able to destroy the house of God and build it up again in three days.’”

y dijeron: «Éste dijo: “Puedo derribar el templo de Dios, y reedificarlo en tres días.”»

62 T hen the head religious leader stood up. He said to Jesus, “Have You nothing to say? What about the things these men are saying against You?”

El sumo sacerdote se levantó y le preguntó: «¿No vas a responder? ¡Mira lo que éstos dicen contra ti!»

63 J esus said nothing. Then the head religious leader said to Him, “In the name of the living God, I tell You to say the truth. Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God.”

Pero Jesús guardó silencio. Entonces el sumo sacerdote le dijo: «Te ordeno en el nombre del Dios viviente, que nos digas si tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios.»

64 J esus said to him, “What you said is true. I say to you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated on the right hand of the All-powerful God. You will see Him coming on the clouds of the sky.”

Jesús le respondió: «Tú lo has dicho. Y además les digo que, desde ahora, verán al Hijo del Hombre sentado a la diestra del Poderoso, y venir en las nubes del cielo.»

65 T hen the head religious leader tore his clothes apart. He said, “He has spoken as if He were God! Do we need other people to speak against Him yet? You have heard Him speak as if He were God!

El sumo sacerdote se rasgó entonces las vestiduras y dijo: «¡Ha blasfemado! ¿Qué necesidad tenemos de más testigos? ¡Ustedes acaban de oír su blasfemia!

66 W hat do you think?” They said, “He is guilty of death!”

¿Qué les parece?» Y ellos respondieron: «¡Que merece la muerte!»

67 T hen they spit on His face. They hit Him with their hands. Others beat Him.

Entonces unos lo escupieron en el rostro, y le dieron puñetazos; y otros lo abofeteaban

68 T hey said, “Tell us, Christ, You Who can tell what is going to happen, who hit You?” Peter Said He Did Not Know Jesus

y decían: «¡Profetízanos, Cristo; dinos quién te golpeó!» Pedro niega a Jesús

69 P eter sat outside in the yard. A young servant-girl came to him. She said, “You were also with Jesus Who is from the country of Galilee!”

Mientras Pedro estaba sentado afuera, en el patio, se le acercó una criada y le dijo: «También tú estabas con Jesús el galileo.»

70 B ut Peter lied in front of all of them, saying, “I do not know what you are talking about.”

Pero él lo negó delante de todos, y dijo: «No sé de qué hablas.»

71 A fter he had gone out, another young servant-girl saw him. She said to those standing around, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.”

Y se fue a la puerta. Pero otra criada lo vio, y dijo a los que estaban allí: «También éste estaba con Jesús el nazareno.»

72 A gain he lied and swore, “I do not know this Man!”

Pero él lo negó otra vez, y hasta juró: «No conozco a ese hombre.»

73 A fter a little while some of the people standing around came up to Peter and said, “For sure, you are one of them. You talk like they do.”

Un poco después, los que estaban por allí se acercaron a Pedro y le dijeron: «Sin lugar a dudas, tú también eres uno de ellos, porque hasta tu manera de hablar te delata.»

74 T hen he began to say bad words and swear. He said, “I do not know the Man!” At once a rooster crowed.

Entonces él comenzó a maldecir, y a jurar: «No conozco a ese hombre.» Y enseguida cantó el gallo.

75 P eter remembered the words Jesus had said to him, “Before a rooster crows, you will say three times you do not know Me.” Peter went outside and cried with loud cries.

Entonces Pedro se acordó de que Jesús le había dicho: «Antes de que cante el gallo, me negarás tres veces.» Y saliendo de allí, lloró amargamente.
