1 I t is bad for those who are taking it easy in Zion, and for those who feel safe on the mountain of Samaria, you great men of the most important nation, to whom the people of Israel come!

¡Ay de ustedes, los que viven tranquilos en Sión! ¡Ay de ustedes, los que viven confiados en el monte de Samaria! ¡Ustedes, que son la gente notable e importante entre las naciones, y a quienes acude la casa de Israel!

2 G o over to Calneh and look. And go from there to great Hamath. Then go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are they better than these nations? Is their land better than yours?

Pasen a Calne, y miren. De allí, vayan a la gran ciudad de Jamat, y prosigan luego a Gat de los filisteos. Vean si aquellos reinos son mejores que estos reinos, y si su territorio es más extenso que el de ustedes.

Ustedes duermen en camas de marfil, y reposan sobre sus divanes; se alimentan con los corderos del rebaño y con los novillos que sacan del engordadero;

5 Y ou sing songs to the sound of the harp. Like David you write songs for yourselves.

gorjean al son de la flauta y, como si fueran David, inventan instrumentos musicales;

6 Y ou drink wine from the holy dishes, and pour the best oil on yourselves. Yet you are not filled with sorrow because Joseph has been destroyed!

beben vino en grandes copas y se perfuman con las mejores fragancias, ¡pero nada les importa que José se halle en el desastre!

7 Y ou will be among the first to be taken away as prisoners to a strange land, and your happy times of rest will pass away.

Por eso, van a encabezar a los que marchan al exilio. ¡Ha llegado el fin de tantos festines!

8 T he Lord God has promised by Himself. The Lord God of All has said, “I hate the pride of Jacob, and I hate his strong-places, so I will give up the city and everything in it.”

Nuestro Señor y Dios ha jurado por sí mismo. El Señor y Dios de los ejércitos ha dicho: «No soporto la soberbia de Jacob. Aborrezco sus palacios. Por eso voy a entregar al enemigo la ciudad y todo lo que hay en ella.»

9 I f ten men are left in one house, they will die.

Va a suceder que, si en una casa quedan con vida diez hombres, esos diez morirán.

10 T he dead man’s brother, who is to take care of the body, will lift him up to carry his bones from the house. And he will say to the one inside the house, “Is anyone else with you?” That one will say, “No.” Then he will say, “Keep quiet! For the name of the Lord must not be spoken.”

Y si el pariente de algún difunto quiere sacar de la casa los huesos para quemarlos, dirá a quien esté en el fondo de la casa: «¿Hay todavía alguien contigo?» Y si aquél contesta que no, éste dirá: «Calla, no vaya a suceder que mencionemos el nombre del Señor.»

11 F or the Lord is going to say that the great house must be broken apart and the small house into pieces.

En efecto, el Señor ha dado la orden de reducir a escombros la casa mayor, y de abrir brechas en la casa menor.

12 D o horses run on rocks? Does one plow them with oxen? Yet you have turned what is fair into poison. You have turned what is right and good into something bitter.

¿Acaso corren los caballos por las peñas? ¿O se ara en ellas con bueyes? Entonces, ¿por qué ustedes han convertido la justicia en veneno, y el fruto del derecho en amargura?

13 Y ou who have joy in Lo-debar, and say, “Did we not take Karnaim by our own strength?”

«¿Ustedes se alegran por Lodebar, y se jactan de haber conquistado Carnayin con sus propias fuerzas?

14 T he Lord God of All says, “I am going to raise up a nation against you, O people of Israel. And they will bring much suffering upon you from the gate of Hamath to the river of the Arabah.”

Pues tomen en cuenta, israelitas, que yo voy a lanzar contra ustedes una nación que los oprimirá desde la entrada de Jamat hasta el arroyo del Arabá.» —Palabra del Señor y Dios de los ejércitos.
