1 “ Listen, O heavens, and let me speak. Let the earth hear the words of my mouth.

Escúchenme, cielos, que voy a hablar; ¡que oiga la tierra lo que dirán mis labios!

2 L et my teaching fall as the rain, and my voice like the water on the grass in the early morning, like rain upon the new grass, and rain upon the plant.

Mi enseñanza se derramará como la lluvia; mis razonamientos caerán como el rocío. Serán como la llovizna sobre la grama, como gotas de agua sobre la hierba.

3 F or I will make known the name of the Lord. I will tell of the greatness of God!

Voy a proclamar el nombre del Señor; voy a enaltecer a nuestro Dios.

4 T he Rock! His work is perfect. All His ways are right and fair. A God Who is faithful and without sin, right and good is He.

Él es nuestra Roca, y su obra es perfecta; todos sus caminos son de justicia. Es el Dios de la verdad, justo y recto; en él no hay ninguna maldad.

5 T hey have acted in sin toward Him, but they are not His children, because the mark of sin is on them. They are a bad and sinful people.

La corrupción no es suya, sino de sus hijos, que son gente torcida y perversa.

6 I s this how you pay the Lord, you foolish people who are not wise? Is He not your Father Who has bought you? He has made you and given you your place.

Tú, pueblo loco e ignorante, ¿así le pagas al Señor? ¡Él es tu padre! ¡Es tu Creador! ¡Él te hizo y te afirmó!

7 R emember the days long ago. Think of the years of all people. Ask your father and he will show you. Ask your leaders. They will tell you.

Acuérdate de los tiempos pasados; trae a la memoria los años ya idos. Pregúntale a tu padre, y te lo dirá; y a tus ancianos, y te contarán

8 W hen the Most High divided up the world among the nations, he divided the children of men. He set the place where each nation was to live by the number of the sons of Israel.

cuando el Altísimo dio su herencia a las naciones, cuando hizo el reparto entre el género humano: él estableció los linderos de los pueblos según el número de los hijos de Israel.

9 F or the Lord’s share is His people. He chose the people of Jacob for Himself.

La porción del Señor es su pueblo; Jacob es la herencia que le tocó.

10 H e found him in a desert land, in the empty waste of a desert. He came around him and cared for him. He kept him as He would His own eye.

Lo encontró en un lugar deshabitado; en un yermo horrible y solitario. Lo atrajo hacía él mismo, y lo instruyó; ¡lo cuidó como a la niña de sus ojos!

11 L ike an eagle that shakes its nest, that flies over its young, He spread His wings and caught them. He carried them on His wings.

Así como el águila revolotea sobre el nido y anima a sus polluelos a volar, y extiende sus alas y los levanta en vilo, y los sostiene sobre sus alas,

12 T he Lord alone led him. There was no strange god with him.

así también el Señor los guió, sin la ayuda de ningún dios extraño.

13 H e made him sit on the high places of the earth. And he ate the food of the field. He made him eat honey from the rock, oil out of hard rock,

Los hizo ascender a las alturas de la tierra, y les dio a comer los frutos del campo; de la roca los hizo libar dulce miel, ¡del duro pedernal los hizo extraer aceite!

14 m ilk from cows and milk from the flock, the fat of lambs, rams of Bashan, goats, and the best of the grain. And you drank wine of the blood of grapes.

Los alimentó con leche y mantequilla, con grasa de corderos y carneros de Basán, y con la carne de machos cabríos; les dio a comer del mejor trigo y les dio a beber del mejor vino.

15 “ But Jeshurun grew fat and would not obey. You became fat and full of food. Then he turned away from God Who made him. He hated the Rock of His saving power.

Pero Jesurún engordó y dio de coces (engordó, se llenó de grasa), y abandonó al Dios que lo hizo; ¡menospreció a la Roca de su salvación!

16 T hey made Him jealous with strange gods. They made Him angry with hated things.

Con dioses ajenos despertó sus celos; con sus repugnantes hechos provocó su ira.

17 T hey gave gifts to demons who were not God, to gods they have not known, new gods who came later, whom your fathers did not fear.

En vez de ofrecerle sacrificios a Dios, se los ofreció a los demonios, a dioses que nunca antes había conocido; a dioses nuevos, venidos de cerca, a los que sus padres nunca antes adoraron.

18 Y ou did not think of the Rock Who gave you birth. You forgot the God Who gave you birth.

Te olvidaste de la Roca que te creó; te olvidaste del Dios que te dio el ser.

19 “ The Lord saw this, and hated them. His sons and daughters made Him angry.

El Señor vio esto, y se encendió su ira, porque sus hijos y sus hijas lo menospreciaron.

20 T hen He said, ‘I will hide My face from them. I will see what their end will be. For they are a sinful people, children who are not faithful.

Entonces dijo: «Les daré la espalda. Voy a ver en qué terminan, porque son una generación perversa; son unos hijos inconstantes.

21 T hey have made Me jealous with what is not God. They have made Me angry with their false gods. So I will make them jealous with those who are not a people. I will make them angry with a foolish nation.

Despiertan mis celos con sus ídolos; ¡provocan mi enojo con dioses que no son dioses! Pero yo también los provocaré a celos con un pueblo que no es pueblo; provocaré su enojo con una nación insensata.

22 F or a fire is started by My anger. It burns to the very bottom of the place of the dead. It burns up the earth and all that grows on the earth. It burns the base of the mountains.

Porque mi ira es un fuego ardiente, y arderá hasta las profundidades del sepulcro; devorará la tierra y sus frutos, y consumirá los fundamentos de los montes.

23 ‘ I will send much trouble upon them. I will use My arrows against them.

Amontonaré sobre ellos calamidades; ¡lanzaré contra ellos mis saetas!

24 T hey will be wasted with hunger. They will be destroyed by burning heat and disease. I will send the teeth of wild animals against them, with the poison of things moving in the dust.

El hambre, la fiebre y la peste los consumirán, y acabarán con ellos; también enviaré contra ellos colmillos de fieras y el veneno de serpientes de la tierra.

25 T he sword will bring death in the street, and bring fear in the homes. It will destroy both young man and young woman, the baby and the man with white hair.

Afuera, los aniquilará la espada; adentro de sus casas, los dominará el terror; lo mismo a jóvenes que a doncellas, lo mismo a niños de pecho que a gente anciana.

26 I would have said, “I will cut them to pieces. I will make all people forget about them.”

»Yo había jurado que los esparciría muy lejos, que pondría fin a su memoria entre los hombres,

27 B ut I was afraid that those who hate them would fight in anger against them and would not understand. They would say, “We have won with our own strength. The Lord has not done this.”’

pero evité las provocaciones del enemigo, para que no se envanecieran sus adversarios. No quise que creyeran que todo esto lo había hecho su propia mano, y no el Señor.

28 “ For they are a nation without wise teaching. There is no understanding in them.

Porque son una nación carente de buen juicio: no tienen capacidad de entendimiento.

29 I f they were wise, they would understand this. They would know their future!

¡Si al menos fueran sabios y entendieran esto, Y se dieran cuenta del fin que les espera!

30 H ow could one run after a thousand? How could two make ten thousand run away, unless their Rock had sold them, and the Lord had given them up?

¿Cómo podría un solo hombre perseguir a mil, si yo, el Señor, no se los hubiera vendido? ¿Cómo podrían sólo dos poner en fuga a diez mil, si yo, su Roca, no se los hubiera entregado?»

31 F or their rock is not like our Rock. Even those who hate us judge this.

La roca de aquellos no es como nuestra Roca, y hasta nuestros enemigos pueden constatarlo.

32 T heir vine is from the vine of Sodom, and from the fields of Gomorrah. Their grapes are grapes of poison. Their fruit tastes bitter.

La vid de ellos es de la vid de Sodoma, ¡es de los campos de Gomorra! Sus uvas son uvas ponzoñosas, y producen racimos de amargura.

33 T heir wine is the poison of snakes that kill.

Su vino es un veneno de serpientes, ¡no es sino mortal ponzoña de áspides!

34 ‘ Are they not kept in store with Me, shut in with My stores of riches?

«¿Acaso no he guardado esto conmigo, y lo tengo sellado entre mis tesoros?

35 I t is Mine to punish when their foot makes a false step. The day of their trouble is near. Their fall is coming fast upon them.’

A mí me corresponde tomar venganza; ¡en su momento caerán, y les daré su merecido! Ya se acerca el día de su aflicción; ¡pronto viene lo que les tengo preparado!»

36 F or the Lord will judge His people. He will have loving-pity on His servants when He sees their strength is gone, and none are left of those who are free or of those who are not free.

Sí, el Señor juzgará a su pueblo, y por amor de sus siervos cambiará de parecer al ver que su fuerza se ha debilitado y que ya no quedan siervos ni libres.

37 T hen He will say, ‘Where are their gods? Where is the rock where they went to be safe?

Entonces dirá: «¿Y dónde están sus dioses, esas rocas en las que se refugiaban,

38 W ho ate the fat of their burnt gifts and drank the wine of their drink gifts? Let them come and help you. Let them be your hiding place!

que se comían la grasa de sus sacrificios, y bebían el vino de sus libaciones? ¡Que se levanten y vengan a ayudarlos! ¡Que vengan a defenderlos!

39 S ee now that it is I. I am He. There is no god except Me. It is I Who kills and gives life. I hurt, and I heal. And there is no one who can take from My hand.

Reconozcan ahora que yo soy Dios, y que no hay otros dioses conmigo. Yo doy la vida, y yo la quito; yo hiero de muerte, y yo devuelvo la vida, y no hay nadie que pueda evitarlo.

40 F or I lift up My hand to heaven, and promise that, as I live forever,

Yo levanto la mano hacia los cielos y juro que vivo para siempre,

41 I will make My shining sword sharp. My hand takes hold of what is right and fair. I will punish those who are against Me. And I will punish those who hate Me.

Cuando afile mi espada reluciente y eche mano de ella en el juicio, tomaré venganza de mis enemigos y a los que me odian les daré su merecido.

42 I will make My arrows drunk with blood. My sword will eat flesh with the blood of those who are killed and those who are in prison, from the long-haired leaders of those who hate Me.’

Empaparé de sangre mis saetas, y mi espada se saciará de carne viva; de la sangre de los heridos y de los cautivos, de las cabezas de mis enemigos de larga melena.»

43 B e glad, O nations, with His people! For He will punish because of the blood of His servants. He will punish those who fight against Him. And He will take away the sin of His land and His people.”

Ustedes las naciones, alaben al pueblo del Señor, porque él vengará la sangre de sus siervos y tomará venganza de sus enemigos; ¡él hará expiación por la tierra de su pueblo!

44 M oses came with Joshua the son of Nun and spoke all the words of this song in the ears of the people.

Moisés se presentó ante el pueblo y, junto con Josué hijo de Nun, les repitió todas las palabras de este cántico.

45 W hen Moses had finished speaking all these words to all Israel,

Y cuando Moisés terminó de recitar todas estas palabras ante todo Israel,

46 h e said to them, “Take into your heart all the words I tell you today. Tell them to your children, so they may be careful to do all the words of this Law.

les dijo: «Entréguense de corazón a cumplir todas las palabras de esta ley que hoy les he expuesto, y vean que sus hijos las cumplan, y ocúpense de cumplirlas.

47 T his word is of great worth to you. It is your very life. By this word you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to take.” Moses to Die on Mount Nebo

No se trata de palabras sin sentido, sino que se trata de su propia vida. Por medio de esta ley ustedes prolongarán su vida sobre la tierra al otro lado del Jordán, adonde ahora se dirigen para tomar posesión de ella.» Moisés contempla la tierra de Canaán

48 T he Lord said to Moses that same day,

Ese mismo día el Señor habló con Moisés. Le dijo:

49 “ Go up to this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo, in the land of Moab beside Jericho. Look at the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the people of Israel for their own.

«Sube al monte Abarín, a la cumbre del monte Nebo, que está en la tierra de Moab, frente a Jericó, y contempla la tierra de Canaán, que yo doy a los hijos de Israel como su propiedad.

50 T hen die on the mountain you go up, and join your people, as Aaron your brother died on Mount Hor and joined his people.

Allí, en ese monte al cual vas a subir, morirás y te reunirás con tu pueblo, del mismo modo que antes tu hermano Aarón murió en el monte Hor y fue a reunirse con su pueblo.

51 T his is because you were not faithful to Me among the people of Israel at the waters of Meribah-Kadesh, in the Desert of Zin and you did not honor Me as holy among the people of Israel.

Allá, en las aguas de Meriba de Cades, en el desierto de Zin, ustedes pecaron contra mí delante de los hijos de Israel, y delante de ellos no me santificaron.

52 Y ou will see the land from far away, but you will not go into the land I am giving the people of Israel.”

Por eso, sólo verás ante tus ojos la tierra que voy a dar a los hijos de Israel, pero no entrarás en ella.»
