1 T he followers of Jesus were all together in one place fifty days after the special religious gathering to remember how the Jews left Egypt.

Cuando llegó el día de Pentecostés, todos ellos estaban juntos y en el mismo lugar.

2 A ll at once there was a sound from heaven like a powerful wind. It filled the house where they were sitting.

De repente, un estruendo como de un fuerte viento vino del cielo, y sopló y llenó toda la casa donde se encontraban.

3 T hen they saw tongues which were divided that looked like fire. These came down on each one of them.

Entonces aparecieron unas lenguas como de fuego, que se repartieron y fueron a posarse sobre cada uno de ellos.

4 T hey were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they began to speak in other languages which the Holy Spirit made them able to speak.

Todos ellos fueron llenos del Espíritu Santo, y comenzaron a hablar en otras lenguas, según el Espíritu los llevaba a expresarse.

5 T here were many religious Jews staying in Jerusalem. They were from every country of the world.

En aquel tiempo vivían en Jerusalén judíos piadosos, que venían de todas las naciones conocidas.

6 W hen they heard this strange sound, they gathered together. They all listened! It was hard for them to believe they were hearing words in their own language.

Al escucharse aquel estruendo, la multitud se juntó, y se veían confundidos porque los oían hablar en su propia lengua.

7 T hey were surprised and wondered about it. They said to each other, “Are not these Galileans who are speaking?

Estaban atónitos y maravillados, y decían: «Fíjense: ¿acaso no son galileos todos estos que están hablando?

8 H ow is it that each one of us can hear his own language?

¿Cómo es que los oímos hablar en nuestra lengua materna?

9 W e are Parthians and Medes, Elamites and from the countries of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and in the countries of Asia,

Aquí hay partos, medos, elamitas, y los que habitamos en Mesopotamia, Judea, Capadocia, el Ponto y Asia.

10 P hrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene. Some have come from the city of Rome. Some are Jews by birth and others have become Jews.

Están los de Frigia y Panfilia, los de Egipto y los de las regiones de África que están más allá de Cirene. También están los romanos que viven aquí, tanto judíos como prosélitos,

11 S ome are also men of the countries of Crete and Arabia. They are speaking of the powerful works of God to all of us in our own language!”

y cretenses y árabes, ¡y todos los escuchamos hablar en nuestra lengua acerca de las maravillas de Dios!»

12 T hey were all surprised and wondered about this. They said to each other, “What can this mean?”

Todos ellos estaban atónitos y perplejos, y se decían unos a otros: «¿Y esto qué significa?»

13 B ut others laughed and made fun, saying, “These men are full of new wine.” Peter Preaches—What Joel Said Would Happen Has Happened

14 T hen Peter stood up with the eleven missionaries and spoke with a loud voice, “Men of the country of Judea and all of you who are living in Jerusalem, I want you to know what is happening. So listen to what I am going to say.

Entonces Pedro se puso de pie, junto con los otros once, y con potente voz dijo: «Varones judíos, y ustedes, habitantes todos de Jerusalén, sepan esto, y entiendan bien mis palabras.

15 T hese men are not drunk as you think. It is only nine o’clock in the morning.

Contra lo que ustedes suponen, estos hombres no están borrachos, pues apenas son las nueve de la mañana.

16 T he early preacher Joel said this would happen.

Más bien, esto es lo que dijo el profeta Joel:

17 G od says, ‘In the last days I will send My Spirit on all men. Then your sons and daughters will speak God’s Word. Your young men will see what God has given them to see. Your old men will dream dreams.

»Dios ha dicho: En los últimos días derramaré de mi Espíritu sobre toda la humanidad. Los hijos y las hijas de ustedes profetizarán; sus jóvenes tendrán visiones y sus ancianos tendrán sueños.

18 Y es, on those I own, both men and women, I will send My Spirit in those days. They will speak God’s Word.

En esos días derramaré de mi Espíritu sobre mis siervos y mis siervas, y también profetizarán.

19 I will show powerful works in the sky above. There will be things to see in the earth below like blood and fire and clouds of smoke.

Haré prodigios en el cielo, y en la tierra se verán señales de sangre, de fuego y de vapor de humo.

20 T he sun will turn dark and the moon will turn to blood before the day of the Lord. His coming will be a great and special day.

El sol se oscurecerá, la luna se pondrá roja como sangre, antes de que llegue el día del Señor y se muestre en toda su grandeza.

21 I t will be that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved from the punishment of sin.’ Peter Preaches—Jesus Shows Who He Is by What He Did

Y todo el que invoque el nombre del Señor será salvo.

22 “ Jewish men, listen to what I have to say! You knew Jesus of the town of Nazareth by the powerful works He did. God worked through Jesus while He was with you. You all know this.

»Varones israelitas, escuchen mis palabras: Jesús nazareno, que fue el varón que Dios aprobó entre ustedes por las maravillas, prodigios y señales que hizo por medio de él, como ustedes mismos lo saben,

23 J esus was handed over to sinful men. God knew this and planned for it to happen. You had sinful men take Him and nail Him to a cross.

fue entregado conforme al plan determinado y el conocimiento anticipado de Dios, y ustedes lo aprehendieron y lo mataron por medio de hombres inicuos, crucificándolo.

24 B ut God raised Him up. He allowed Him to be set free from the pain of death. Death could not hold its power over Him. Peter Preaches—Jesus Shows Who He Is by What He Said

Pero Dios lo levantó, liberándolo de los lazos de la muerte, porque era imposible que la muerte lo venciera.

25 “ David said this about Him, ‘I can see the Lord before me all the time. He is at my right side so that I do not need to be troubled.

De él dice David: Siempre veía al Señor ante mí. Él está a mi derecha, y nada me perturbará.

26 I am glad and my tongue is full of joy. My body rests in hope.

Por eso mi corazón se alegró, y mi lengua cantó llena de gozo. Mi cuerpo descansará en la esperanza,

27 Y ou will not leave my soul in death. You will not allow Your Holy One to be destroyed.

porque no dejarás mi alma en el Hades, ni permitirás que tu Santo se corrompa.

28 Y ou have shown me the ways of life. I will be full of joy when I see Your face.’

Me hiciste conocer los caminos de la vida, y me llenarás de gozo con tu presencia.

29 “ Brothers, I can tell you in plain words that our early father David not only died but was buried. We know where his grave is today.

»Varones hermanos, podemos afirmar, sin temor a equivocarnos, que nuestro patriarca David murió y fue sepultado, y que hoy sabemos dónde está su sepulcro entre nosotros.

30 H e was one who spoke for God. He knew God had made a promise to him. From his family Christ would come and take His place as King.

David era profeta, y sabía que Dios le había jurado que de su linaje humano saldría el Cristo, que se sentaría en su trono.

31 H e knew this before and spoke of Christ being raised from the dead. Christ’s soul would not be left in hell. His body would not be destroyed.

Esto lo vio antes de que sucediera, y habló de la resurrección de Cristo y de que su alma no se quedaría en el Hades, ni su cuerpo se corrompería.

32 J esus is this One! God has raised Him up and we have all seen Him.

Pues a este Jesús Dios lo resucitó, y de eso todos nosotros somos testigos.

33 “ This Jesus has been lifted up to God’s right side. The Holy Spirit was promised by the Father. God has given Him to us. That is what you are seeing and hearing now!

Y como él fue exaltado por la diestra de Dios, recibió del Padre la promesa del Espíritu Santo, y ha derramado esto que ahora están viendo y oyendo.

34 I t was not David who was taken up to heaven, because he said, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right side,

David mismo no subió a los cielos, pero sí dice: »Dijo el Señor a mi Señor: Siéntate a mi derecha,

35 f or those who hate You will be a place to rest Your feet.”’

hasta que yo ponga a tus enemigos por estrado de tus pies.

36 T he whole Jewish nation must know for sure that God has made this Jesus, both Lord and Christ. He is the One you nailed to a cross!” They Ask Peter What They Should Do

»Sépalo bien todo el pueblo de Israel, que a este Jesús, a quien ustedes crucificaron, Dios lo ha hecho Señor y Cristo.»

37 W hen the Jews heard this, their hearts were troubled. They said to Peter and to the other missionaries, “Brothers, what should we do?”

Al oír esto, todos sintieron un profundo remordimiento en su corazón, y les dijeron a Pedro y a los otros apóstoles: «Hermanos, ¿qué debemos hacer?»

38 P eter said to them, “Be sorry for your sins and turn from them and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and your sins will be forgiven. You will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Y Pedro les dijo: «Arrepiéntanse, y bautícense todos ustedes en el nombre de Jesucristo, para que sus pecados les sean perdonados. Entonces recibirán el don del Espíritu Santo.

39 T his promise is to you and your children. It is to all people everywhere. It is to as many as the Lord our God will call.”

Porque la promesa es para ustedes y para sus hijos, para todos los que están lejos, y para todos aquellos a quienes el Señor nuestro Dios llame.»

40 H e said many other things. He helped them understand that they should keep themselves from the sinful people of this day.

Y con muchas otras palabras les hablaba y los animaba. Les decía: «Pónganse a salvo de esta generación perversa.»

41 T hose who believed what he said were baptized. There were about 3, 000 more followers added that day. The First Church

Fue así como los que recibieron su palabra fueron bautizados, y ese día se añadieron como tres mil personas,

42 T hey were faithful in listening to the teaching of the missionaries. They worshiped and prayed and ate the Lord’s supper together.

las cuales se mantenían fieles a las enseñanzas de los apóstoles y en el mutuo compañerismo, en el partimiento del pan y en las oraciones. La vida de los primeros cristianos

43 M any powerful works were done by the missionaries. Surprise and fear came on them all.

Al ver las muchas maravillas y señales que los apóstoles hacían, todos se llenaban de temor,

44 A ll those who put their trust in Christ were together and shared what they owned.

y todos los que habían creído se mantenían unidos y lo compartían todo;

45 A s anyone had need, they sold what they owned and shared with everyone.

vendían sus propiedades y posesiones, y todo lo compartían entre todos, según las necesidades de cada uno.

46 D ay after day they went to the house of God together. In their houses they ate their food together. Their hearts were happy.

Todos los días se reunían en el templo, y partían el pan en las casas, y comían juntos con alegría y sencillez de corazón,

47 T hey gave thanks to God and all the people respected them. The Lord added to the group each day those who were being saved from the punishment of sin.

mientras alababan a Dios y brindaban ayuda a todo el pueblo. Y cada día el Señor añadía a la iglesia a los que habían de ser salvos.
