Yo, Santiago, siervo de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo, saludo a las doce tribus que están en la dispersión. La sabiduría que viene de Dios

2 M y Christian brothers, you should be happy when you have all kinds of tests.

Hermanos míos, considérense muy dichosos cuando estén pasando por diversas pruebas.

3 Y ou know these prove your faith. It helps you not to give up.

Bien saben que, cuando su fe es puesta a prueba, produce paciencia.

4 L earn well how to wait so you will be strong and complete and in need of nothing.

Pero procuren que la paciencia complete su obra, para que sean perfectos y cabales, sin que les falta nada.

5 I f you do not have wisdom, ask God for it. He is always ready to give it to you and will never say you are wrong for asking.

Si alguno de ustedes requiere de sabiduría, pídasela a Dios, y él se la dará, pues Dios se la da a todos en abundancia y sin hacer ningún reproche.

6 Y ou must have faith as you ask Him. You must not doubt. Anyone who doubts is like a wave which is pushed around by the sea.

Pero tiene que pedir con fe y sin dudar nada, porque el que duda es como las olas del mar, que el viento agita y lleva de un lado a otro.

7 S uch a man will get nothing from the Lord.

Quien sea así, no piense que recibirá del Señor cosa alguna,

8 T he man who has two ways of thinking changes in everything he does.

pues quienes titubean son inconstantes en todo lo que hacen.

9 A Christian brother who has few riches of this world should be happy for what he has. He is great in the eyes of God.

El hermano pobre debe sentirse orgulloso cuando sea exaltado;

10 B ut a rich man should be happy even if he loses everything. He is like a flower that will die.

el rico debe sentirse igual cuando sea humillado, porque las riquezas pasan como las flores del campo:

11 T he sun comes up with burning heat. The grass dries up and the flower falls off. It is no longer beautiful. The rich man will die also and all his riches will be gone.

en cuanto sale el sol, quemándolo todo con su calor, la hierba se marchita y su flor se cae, con lo que su hermosa apariencia se desvanece. Así también se desvanecerá el rico en todas sus empresas. Enfrentando las pruebas

12 T he man who does not give up when tests come is happy. After the test is over, he will receive the crown of life. God has promised this to those who love Him. God Does Not Tempt Us

Dichoso el que hace frente a la tentación; porque, pasada la prueba, se hace acreedor a la corona de vida, la cual Dios ha prometido dar a quienes lo aman.

13 W hen you are tempted to do wrong, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God cannot be tempted. He will never tempt anyone.

Cuando alguien sea tentado, no diga que ha sido tentado por Dios, porque Dios no tienta a nadie, ni tampoco el mal puede tentar a Dios.

14 A man is tempted to do wrong when he lets himself be led by what his bad thoughts tell him to do.

Al contrario, cada uno es tentado cuando se deja llevar y seducir por sus propios malos deseos.

15 W hen he does what his bad thoughts tell him to do, he sins. When sin completes its work, it brings death.

El fruto de estos malos deseos, una vez concebidos, es el pecado; y el fruto del pecado, una vez cometido, es la muerte.

16 M y Christian brothers, do not be fooled about this.

Queridos hermanos míos, no se equivoquen.

17 W hatever is good and perfect comes to us from God. He is the One Who made all light. He does not change. No shadow is made by His turning.

Toda buena dádiva y todo don perfecto descienden de lo alto, del Padre de las luces, en quien no hay cambio ni sombra de variación.

18 H e gave us our new lives through the truth of His Word only because He wanted to. We are the first children in His family.

Él, por su propia voluntad, nos hizo nacer por medio de la palabra de verdad, para que seamos los primeros frutos de su creación. Poniendo en práctica la palabra

19 M y Christian brothers, you know everyone should listen much and speak little. He should be slow to become angry.

Por eso, amados hermanos míos, todos ustedes deben estar dispuestos a oír, pero ser lentos para hablar y para enojarse,

20 A man’s anger does not allow him to be right with God.

porque quien se enoja no promueve la justicia de Dios.

21 P ut out of your life all that is unclean and wrong. Receive with a gentle spirit the Word that was taught. It has the power to save your souls from the punishment of sin.

Así que despójense de toda impureza y de tanta maldad, y reciban con mansedumbre la palabra sembrada, que tiene el poder de salvarlos.

22 O bey the Word of God. If you hear only and do not act, you are only fooling yourself.

Pero pongan en práctica la palabra, y no se limiten sólo a oírla, pues se estarán engañando ustedes mismos.

23 A nyone who hears the Word of God and does not obey is like a man looking at his face in a mirror.

El que oye la palabra pero no la pone en práctica es como el que se mira a sí mismo en un espejo:

24 A fter he sees himself and goes away, he forgets what he looks like.

se ve a sí mismo, pero en cuanto se va, se olvida de cómo es.

25 B ut the one who keeps looking into God’s perfect Law and does not forget it will do what it says and be happy as he does it. God’s Word makes men free.

En cambio, el que fija la mirada en la ley perfecta, que es la ley de la libertad, y no se aparta de ella ni se contenta sólo con oírla y olvidarla, sino que la practica, será dichoso en todo lo que haga.

26 I f a person thinks he is religious, but does not keep his tongue from speaking bad things, he is fooling himself. His religion is worth nothing.

Si alguno de ustedes cree ser religioso, pero no refrena su lengua, se engaña a sí mismo y su religión no vale nada.

27 R eligion that is pure and good before God the Father is to help children who have no parents and to care for women whose husbands have died who have troubles. Pure religion is also to keep yourself clean from the sinful things of the world.

Delante de Dios, la religión pura y sin mancha consiste en ayudar a los huérfanos y a las viudas en sus aflicciones, y en mantenerse limpio de la maldad de este mundo.
