1 T he men of Kiriath Jearim came, and took Yahweh’s ark, and brought it into Abinadab’s house on the hill, and consecrated Eleazar his son to keep Yahweh’s ark.

2 F rom the day that the ark stayed in Kiriath Jearim, the time was long; for it was twenty years; and all the house of Israel lamented after Yahweh.

Долгое время, на протяжении двадцати лет, ковчег оставался в Кирьят-Иеариме, и весь народ Израиля плакал и искал Господа.

3 S amuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you are returning to Yahweh with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you, and direct your hearts to Yahweh, and serve him only; and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.”

Самуил сказал всему дому Израиля: − Если вы обращаетесь к Господу от всего сердца, то избавьтесь от чужеземных богов и Астарт, отдайте себя Господу, служите только Ему, и Он спасет вас от руки филистимлян.

4 T hen the children of Israel removed the Baals and the Ashtaroth, and served Yahweh only.

И израильтяне избавились от своих Баалов и Астарт и служили только Господу.

5 S amuel said, “Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray to Yahweh for you.”

Тогда Самуил сказал: − Соберите весь Израиль в Мицпе, и я буду просить Господа за вас.

6 T hey gathered together to Mizpah, and drew water, and poured it out before Yahweh, and fasted on that day, and said there, “We have sinned against Yahweh.” Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpah.

Собравшись в Мицпе, они черпали воду и выливали ее перед Господом. В тот день они постились и каялись: − Мы согрешили против Господа. И Самуил был судьей Израиля в Мицпе.

7 W hen the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together at Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. When the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.

Когда филистимляне услышали, что израильтяне собрались в Мицпе, их правители выступили против Израиля. Узнав об этом, израильтяне испугались.

8 T he children of Israel said to Samuel, “Don’t stop crying to Yahweh our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.”

Они сказали Самуилу: − Взывай о нас к Господу, нашему Богу, не переставая, чтобы Он избавил нас от руки филистимлян.

9 S amuel took a suckling lamb, and offered it for a whole burnt offering to Yahweh. Samuel cried to Yahweh for Israel; and Yahweh answered him.

Тогда Самуил взял молочного ягненка и принес его во всесожжение Господу. Он взывал к Господу об Израиле, и Господь ответил ему.

10 A s Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines came near to battle against Israel; but Yahweh thundered with a great thunder on that day on the Philistines, and confused them; and they were struck down before Israel.

В то время как Самуил приносил жертву всесожжения, филистимляне приблизились, чтобы напасть на Израиль. Но на этот раз Господь разразился на филистимлян сильным громом и привел их в такой ужас, что они были наголову разбиты израильтянами.

11 T he men of Israel went out of Mizpah, and pursued the Philistines, and struck them, until they came under Beth Kar.

Мужчины Израиля выступили из Мицпы и преследовали филистимлян, убивая их вплоть до окрестностей Бет-Кара.

12 T hen Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “Yahweh helped us until now.”

Тогда Самуил взял камень и поставил его между Мицпой и Шеном. Он назвал его Эвен-Езер, говоря: «До этого места Господь помог нам».

13 S o the Philistines were subdued, and they stopped coming within the border of Israel. Yahweh’s hand was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.

Так филистимляне были побеждены и не вторгались больше в землю израильтян. Пока был жив Самуил, рука Господа была обращена против филистимлян.

14 T he cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even to Gath; and Israel recovered its border out of the hand of the Philistines. There was peace between Israel and the Amorites.

Города от Экрона до Гата, захваченные филистимлянами у Израиля, возвратились к нему, и Израиль освободил от власти филистимлян прилегающие земли. Между Израилем и аморреями также был мир.

15 S amuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

Самуил оставался судьей над Израилем всю свою жизнь.

16 H e went from year to year in a circuit to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah; and he judged Israel in all those places.

Из года в год он обходил Вефиль, Гилгал и Мицпу и повсюду судил Израиль.

17 H is return was to Ramah, for his house was there; and he judged Israel there; and he built an altar to Yahweh there.

Но он всегда возвращался в Раму, где был его дом, и там тоже судил Израиль. Там же он построил жертвенник Господу.
