A roll of the birth of Jesus Christ, son of David, son of Abraham.

2 A brahamo generò Isacco; Isacco generò Giacobbe; Giacobbe; generò Giuda e i suoi fratelli.

Abraham begat Isaac, and Isaac begat Jacob, and Jacob begat Judah and his brethren,

3 G iuda generò Fares e Zara da Tamar; Fares generò Esrom; Esrom generò Aram;

and Judah begat Pharez and Zarah of Tamar, and Pharez begat Hezron, and Hezron begat Ram,

4 A ram generò Aminadab, Aminadab generò Naasson; Naasson generò Salmon,

and Ram begat Amminadab, and Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon,

5 S almon generò Booz da Rahab; Booz generò Obed da Ruth; Obed generò Iesse.

and Salmon begat Boaz of Rahab, and Boaz begat Obed of Ruth, and Obed begat Jesse,

and Jesse begat David the king. And David the king begat Solomon, of her Uriah's,

and Uzziah begat Jotham, and Jotham begat Ahaz, and Ahaz begat Hezekiah,

10 E zechia generò Manasse; Manasse generò Amon; Amon generò Iosia.

and Hezekiah begat Manasseh, and Manasseh begat Amon, and Amon begat Josiah,

11 I osia generò Ieconia e i suoi fratelli al tempo della deportazione in Babilonia.

and Josiah begat Jeconiah and his brethren, at the Babylonian removal.

12 D opo la deportazione in Babilonia, Ieconia generò Salatiel; Salatiel generò Zorobahel.

And after the Babylonian removal, Jeconiah begat Shealtiel, and Shealtiel begat Zerubbabel,

13 Z orobabel generò Abiud; Abiud generò Eliakim; Eliakim generò Azor.

and Zerubbabel begat Abiud, and Abiud begat Eliakim, and Eliakim begat Azor,

14 A zor generò Sadok; Sadok generò Achim; Achim generò Eliud.

and Azor begat Sadok, and Sadok begat Achim, and Achim begat Eliud,

15 E liud generò Eleazar; Eleazar generò Matthan; Matthan generò Giacobbe.

and Eliud begat Eleazar, and Eleazar begat Matthan, and Matthan begat Jacob,

16 G iacobbe generò Giuseppe, il marito di Maria, dalla quale nacque Gesú, che è chiamato Cristo.

and Jacob begat Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was begotten Jesus, who is named Christ.

17 C osí, tutte le generazioni da Abrahamo fino a Davide sono quattordici generazioni; e da Davide fino alla deportazione in Babilonia, quattordici generazioni; e dalla deportazione in Babilonia fino a Cristo, quattordici generazioni.

All the generations, therefore, from Abraham unto David fourteen generations, and from David unto the Babylonian removal fourteen generations, and from the Babylonian removal unto the Christ, fourteen generations.

18 O r la nascita di Gesú Cristo avvenne in questo modo. Maria, sua madre, era stata promessa in matrimonio a Giuseppe, ma prima che iniziassero a stare insieme, si trovò incinta per opera dello Spirito Santo.

And of Jesus Christ, the birth was thus: For his mother Mary having been betrothed to Joseph, before their coming together she was found to have conceived from the Holy Spirit,

19 A llora Giuseppe, suo sposo, che era uomo giusto e non voleva esporla ad infamia, deliberò di lasciarla segretamente.

and Joseph her husband being righteous, and not willing to make her an example, did wish privately to send her away.

20 M a, mentre rifletteva su queste cose, ecco che un angelo del Signore gli apparve in sogno, dicendo: «Giuseppe, figlio di Davide, non temere di prendere con te Maria come tua moglie, perché ciò che è stato concepito in lei è opera dello Spirito Santo.

And on his thinking of these things, lo, a messenger of the Lord in a dream appeared to him, saying, `Joseph, son of David, thou mayest not fear to receive Mary thy wife, for that which in her was begotten of the Holy Spirit,

21 E d ella partorirà un figlio e tu gli porrai nome Gesú, perché egli salverà il suo popolo dai loro peccati».

and she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.'

22 O r tutto ciò avvenne affinché si adempisse quello che era stato detto dal Signore, per mezzo del profeta che dice:

And all this hath come to pass, that it may be fulfilled that was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying,

23 « Ecco, la vergine sarà incinta e partorirà un figlio, il quale sarà chiamato Emmanuele che, interpretato, vuol dire: "Dio con noi".

`Lo, the virgin shall conceive, and she shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel,' which is, being interpreted `With us God.'

24 E Giuseppe, destatosi dal sonno, fece come l'angelo del Signore gli aveva comandato e prese con sé sua moglie;

And Joseph, having risen from the sleep, did as the messenger of the Lord directed him, and received his wife,

25 m a egli non la conobbe, finché ella ebbe partorito il suo figlio primogenito, al quale pose nome Gesú.

and did not know her till she brought forth her son -- the first-born, and he called his name Jesus.
