1 A llora il profeta Eliseo chiamò uno dei discepoli dei profeti e gli disse: «Cingiti i lombi, prendi con te questo vasetto di olio e va' a Ramoth di Galaad.

And Elisha the prophet hath called to one of the sons of the prophets, and saith to him, `Gird up thy loins, and take this vial of oil in thy hand, and go to Ramoth-Gilead,

2 Q uando vi sarai arrivato, cerca di vedere Jehu, figlio di Giosafat, figlio di Nimsci; entra, fallo alzare di mezzo ai suoi fratelli e conducilo in una stanza appartata.

and thou hast gone in there, and see thou there Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi, and thou hast gone in, and caused him to rise out of the midst of his brethren, and brought him in to the inner part of an inner-chamber,

3 P renderai quindi il vasetto dell'olio e lo verserai sul suo capo, dicendo: Cosí dice l'Eterno: "lo ti ungo re d'Israele". Poi aprirai la porta e fuggirai senza alcun indugio».

and taken the vial of oil, and poured on his head, and said, Thus said Jehovah, I have anointed thee for king unto Israel; and thou hast opened the door, and fled, and dost not wait.'

4 A llora il giovane, il servo del profeta, partì per Ramoth di Galaad.

And the young man goeth -- the young man the prophet -- to Ramoth-Gilead,

5 Q uando vi giunse, trovò i capitani dell'esercito seduti insieme e disse: «Ho un messaggio per te, o capitano». Jehu chiese: «Per chi di noi?». Egli rispose: «Per te, capitano».

and cometh in, and lo, chiefs of the force are sitting, and he saith, `I have a word unto thee, O chief!' and Jehu saith, `Unto which of all of us?' and he saith, `Unto thee, O chief.'

6 A llora egli si alzò ed entrò in casa; il giovane allora gli versò l'olio sul capo, dicendogli: «Cosí dice l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele: "lo ti ungo re sul popolo dell'Eterno, su Israele.

And he riseth and cometh in to the house, and he poureth the oil on his head, and saith to him, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, I have anointed thee for king unto the people of Jehovah, unto Israel,

7 T u colpirai la casa di Achab, tuo signore, cosí vendicherò il sangue dei profeti miei servi e il sangue di tutti i servi dell'Eterno, sparso per mano di Jezebel.

and thou hast smitten the house of Ahab thy lord, and I have required the blood of My servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of Jehovah, from the hand of Jezebel;

8 T utta la casa di Achab perirà, e io sterminerò dalla casa di Achab tutti i maschi, schiavi o liberi, in Israele.

and perished hath all the house of Ahab, and I have cut off to Ahab those sitting on the wall, and restrained, and left, in Israel,

9 C osí ridurrò la casa di Achab come la casa di Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat, e come la casa di Baasha, figlio di Ahijah

and I have given up the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat, and as the house of Baasha son of Ahijah,

10 I cani divoreranno Jezebel nel campo di Jezreel e non vi sarà alcuno che le darà sepoltura"». Poi il giovane aperse la porta e fuggí.

and Jezebel do the dogs eat in the portion of Jezreel, and there is none burying;' and he openeth the door and fleeth.

11 Q uando Jehu uscí dai servi del suo signore, uno gli chiese: «Va tutto bene? Perché quel pazzo è venuto da te?». Egli rispose loro: «Voi conoscete l'uomo e i suoi discorsi!».

And Jehu hath gone out unto the servants of his lord, and saith to him, `Is there peace? wherefore came this madman unto thee?' and he saith unto them, `Ye have known the man and his talk.'

12 M a essi dissero: «E' falso! Orsú, diccelo!». Jehu rispose: «Egli mi ha detto cosí e cosí. dichiarando: Cosí dice l'Eterno: "lo ti ungo re d'Israele"».

And they say, `False, declare, we pray thee, to us;' and he saith, `Thus and thus spake he unto me, saying, Thus said Jehovah, I have anointed thee for king unto Israel.'

13 A llora essi si affrettarono a prendere ciascuno il proprio mantello e a stenderlo sotto di lui sugli stessi gradini; poi suonarono la tromba e dissero: «Jehu è re!».

And they haste and take each his garment, and put under him at the top of the stairs, and blow with a trumpet, and say, `Reigned hath Jehu!'

14 C osí Jehu, figlio di Giosafat, figlio di Nimsci, ordí una congiura contro Joram. (Or Joram, con tutto Israele, stava difendendo Ramoth di Galaad contro Hazael, re di Siria;

And Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi, conspireth against Joram -- (and Joram was keeping in Ramoth-Gilead, he and all Israel, from the presence of Hazael king of Aram,

15 p oi il re Joram era tornato a Jezreel per farsi curare delle ferite che i Siri gli avevano inflitte mentre combatteva contro Hazael re di Siria). Jehu disse: «Se pensate allo stesso modo, nessuno esca o fugga dalla città per andare ad annunciarlo a Jezreel».

and king Joram turneth back to be healed in Jezreel, of the wounds with which the Aramaeans smite him, in his fighting with Hazael king of Aram) -- and Jehu saith, `If it is your mind, let not an escaped one go out from the city, to go to declare in Jezreel.'

16 P oi Jehu montò sopra un carro e partí per Jezreel perché là giaceva ammalato Joram, e Achaziah, re di Giuda, era sceso per visitare Joram.

And Jehu rideth, and goeth to Jezreel, for Joram is lying there, and Ahaziah king of Judah hath gone down to see Joram.

17 L a sentinella che stava sulla torre di Jezreel scorse la schiera numerosa di Jehu che veniva e disse: «Vedo una schiera numerosa!». Joram ordinò: «Prendi un cavaliere e mandalo loro incontro per chiedere: "Recate pace?"».

And the watchman is standing on the tower in Jezreel, and seeth the company of Jehu in his coming, and saith, `A company I see;' and Joram saith, `Take a rider and send to meet them, and let him say, Is there peace?'

18 A llora un uomo a cavallo gli andò incontro e gli disse: «Cosí chiede il re: "Recate pace?"». Jehu rispose: «Che importa a te della pace? Passa dietro e seguimi». La sentinella riferí, dicendo: «Il messaggero è giunto da loro, ma non torna indietro».

and the rider on the horse goeth to meet him, and saith, `Thus said the king, Is there peace?' and Jehu saith, `What -- to thee and to peace? turn round behind me.' And the watchman declareth, saying, `The messenger came unto them, and he hath not returned.'

19 A llora Joram mandò un secondo cavaliere che, giunto da loro, disse: «Cosí chiede il re: "Recate pace?"». Jehu rispose: «Che importa a te della pace? Passa dietro e seguimi».

And he sendeth a second rider on a horse, and he cometh in unto them, and saith, `Thus said the king, Is there peace?' and Jehu saith, `What -- to thee and to peace? turn round behind me.'

20 L a sentinella riferì dicendo: «Il messaggero è giunto da loro, ma non torna indietro. Il suo modo di guidare e quello di Jehu, figlio di Nimsci perché guida all'impazzata».

And the watchman declareth, saying, `He came unto them, and he hath not returned, and the driving like the driving of Jehu son of Nimshi, for with madness he driveth.'

21 A llora Joram disse: «Allestite il carro!». Cosí gli allestirono il carro. Poi Joram, re d'Israele, e Achaziah, re di Giuda, uscirono ciascuno sul proprio carro per andare incontro a Jehu e lo trovarono nel campo di Naboth di Jezreel.

And Jehoram saith, `Harness;' and his chariot is harnessed, and Jehoram king of Israel goeth out, and Ahaziah king of Judah, each in his chariot, and they go out to meet Jehu, and find him in the portion of Naboth the Jezreelite.

22 Q uando Joram vide Jehu, gli disse: «Rechi pace, Jehu?». Jehu rispose: «Che pace vi può essere finché durano le prostituzioni di tua madre Jezebel e le sue numerose magie?»

And it cometh to pass, at Jehoram's seeing Jehu, that he saith, `Is there peace, Jehu?' and he saith, `What the peace, while the whoredoms of Jezebel thy mother, and her witchcrafts, are many?'

23 A llora Joram voltò il carro e fuggí dicendo ad Achaziah: «Tradimento, Achaziah!».

And Jehoram turneth his hands, and fleeth, and saith unto Ahaziah, `Deceit, O Ahaziah!'

24 M a Jehu tese l'arco con tutta la forza e colpí Joram fra le sue spalle; or la freccia gli trapassò il cuore ed egli stramazzò nel suo carro.

And Jehu hath filled his hand with a bow, and smiteth Jehoram between his arms, and the arrow goeth out from his heart, and he boweth down in his chariot.

25 P oi Jehu disse a Bidkar, suo aiutante: «Piglialo e buttalo nel campo di Naboth di Jezreel perché ricordo, quando tu e io cavalcavamo insieme al seguito di Achab, suo padre, l'Eterno pronunciò contro di lui questo oracolo:

And saith unto Bidkar his captain, `Lift up, cast him into the portion of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite -- for, remember, I and thou were riding together after Ahab his father, and Jehovah lifted upon him this burden:

26 " Ieri ho certamente visto il sangue di Naboth e il sangue dei suoi figli", dice l'Eterno, "e io ti ripagherò in questo stesso campo", dice l'Eterno! Piglialo dunque e buttalo nel campo, secondo la parola dell'Eterno».

Have I not the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons seen yesternight -- the affirmation of Jehovah -- yea, I have recompensed to thee in this portion -- the affirmation of Jehovah; -- and now, lift up, cast him into the portion, according to the word of Jehovah.'

27 V edendo questo, Achaziah re di Giuda fuggí per la strada della casa del giardino; ma Jehu gli corse dietro e disse: «Tirate anche a lui sul carro!». E, gli tirarono alla salita di Gur, che è vicino a Ibleam. Ma egli fuggí a Meghiddo, dove morí.

And Ahaziah king of Judah hath seen, and fleeth the way of the garden-house, and Jehu pursueth after him, and saith, `Smite him -- also him -- in the chariot,' in the going up to Gur, that Ibleam, and he fleeth to Megiddo, and dieth there,

28 A llora i suoi servi lo trasportarono sopra un carro a Gerusalemme, e lo seppellirono nel suo sepolcro assieme ai suoi padri, nella città di Davide.

and his servants carry him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and bury him in his burying-place, with his fathers, in the city of David.

29 A chaziah aveva cominciato a regnare sopra Giuda nell'undicesimo anno di Joram, figlio di Achab.

And in the eleventh year of Joram son of Ahab reign did Ahaziah over Judah.

30 Q uando Jehu giunse a Jezreel, Jeze-bel lo venne a sapere. Allora ella si diede il belletto agli occhi, si acconciò la testa e si mise alla finestra a guardare.

And Jehu cometh in to Jezreel, and Jezebel hath heard, and putteth her eyes in paint and maketh right her head, and looketh out through the window.

31 C ome Jehu entrava per la porta, ella gli disse: «Rechi pace, Zimri, uccisore del tuo signore?».

And Jehu hath come into the gate, and she saith, `Was there peace Zimri -- slayer of his lord?'

32 J ehu alzò gli occhi verso la finestra e disse: «Chi è con me? Chi?». Due o tre eunuchi si affacciarono guardando verso di lui.

And he lifteth up his face unto the window, and saith, `Who with me? -- who?' and look out unto him do two three eunuchs;

33 E gli disse: «Buttatela giù!». Essi la buttarono e un po' del suo sangue schizzò contro il muro e contro i cavalli; e Jehu le passò sopra.

And he saith, `Let her go;' and they let her go, and of her blood is sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses, and he treadeth her down.

34 P oi entrò, mangiò e bevve; infine disse: «Andate a vedere quella maledetta donna e seppellitela, perché è figlia di re».

And he cometh in, and eateth, and drinketh, and saith, `Look after, I pray you, this cursed one, and bury her, for she a king's daughter.'

35 A ndarono dunque per seppellirla, ma non trovarono di lei altro che il cranio, i piedi e le palme delle mani.

And they go to bury her, and have not found of her except the skull, and the feet, and the palms of the hands.

36 T ornarono cosí a riferire la cosa a Jehu, che disse: «Questa è la parola dell'Eterno pronunciata per mezzo del suo servo Elia il Tishbita, quando disse: "I cani divoreranno la carne di Jezebel nel campo di Jezreel;

And they turn back, and declare to him, and he saith, `The word of Jehovah it, that He spake by the hand of this servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel do the dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel,

37 i l cadavere di Jezebel sarà nel campo di Jezreel come letame sulla superficie del suolo; cosí non potranno dire: Qui giace Jezebel"».

and the carcase of Jezebel hath been as dung on the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel, that they say not, This Jezebel.'
