1 P arola che Isaia, figlio di Amots ebbe in visione riguardo a Giuda e a Gerusalemme.

The thing that Isaiah son of Amoz hath seen concerning Judah and Jerusalem:

2 N egli ultimi giorni avverrà che il monte della casa dell'Eterno sarà stabilito in cima ai monti e si ergerà al di sopra dei colli, e ad esso affluiranno tutte le nazioni.

And it hath come to pass, In the latter end of the days, Established is the mount of Jehovah's house, Above the top of the mounts, And it hath been lifted up above the heights, And flowed unto it have all the nations.

3 M olti popoli verranno dicendo: «Venite, saliamo al monte dell'Eterno, alla casa del Dio di Giacobbe; egli ci insegnerà le sue vie e noi cammineremo nei suoi sentieri». Poiché da Sion uscirà la legge e da Gerusalemme la parola dell'Eterno.

And gone have many peoples and said, `Come, and we go up unto the mount of Jehovah, Unto the house of the God of Jacob, And He doth teach us of His ways, And we walk in His paths, For from Zion goeth forth a law, And a word of Jehovah from Jerusalem.

4 E gli farà giustizia fra le nazioni e sgriderà molti popoli. Forgeranno le loro spade in vomeri e le loro lance in falci; una nazione non alzerà piú la spada contro un'altra nazione e non insegneranno piú la guerra.

And He hath judged between the nations, And hath given a decision to many peoples, And they have beat their swords to ploughshares, And their spears to pruning-hooks, Nation doth not lift up sword unto nation, Nor do they learn any more -- war.

5 O casa di Giacobbe, venite e camminiamo nella luce dell'Eterno!

O house of Jacob, come, And we walk in the light of Jehovah.'

6 P oiché tu, o Eterno, hai abbandonato il tuo popolo, la casa di Giacobbe, perché sono pieni di pratiche orientali praticano la magia come i Filistei, stringono alleanze con i figli degli stranieri.

For Thou hast left Thy people, the house of Jacob. For they have been filled from the east, And sorcerers like the Philistines, And with the children of strangers strike hands.

7 I l loro paese è pieno d'argento e d'oro e i loro tesori sono senza fine, il loro paese è pieno di cavalli e i loro carri sono senza fine.

And its land is full of silver and gold, And there is no end to its treasures, And its land is full of horses, And there is no end to its chariots,

8 I l loro paese è pieno di idoli; si prostrano davanti all'opera delle loro stesse mani, davanti a ciò che le loro dita hanno fatto.

And its land is full of idols, To the work of its hands it boweth itself, To that which its fingers have made,

9 P erciò l'uomo comune è umiliato e l'uomo eminente è abbassato, ma tu non li perdoni.

And the low boweth down, and the high is humbled, And Thou acceptest them not.

10 E ntra nella roccia e nasconditi nella polvere davanti al terrore dell'Eterno e davanti allo splendore della sua maestà.

Enter into a rock, and be hidden in dust, Because of the fear of Jehovah, And because of the honour of His excellency.

11 L o sguardo altero dell'uomo sarà abbassato e l'orgoglio dei mortali sarà umiliato; soltanto l'Eterno sarà esaltato in quel giorno.

The haughty eyes of man have been humbled, And bowed down hath been the loftiness of men, And set on high hath Jehovah alone been in that day.

12 P oiché il giorno dell'Eterno degli eserciti verrà contro tutto ciò che è orgoglioso ed altero, e contro tutto ciò che si innalza, per abbassarlo,

For a day to Jehovah of Hosts, For every proud and high one, And for every lifted up and low one,

13 c ontro tutti i cedri del Libano, alti ed elevati, e contro tutte le querce di Bashan,

And for all cedars of Lebanon, The high and the exalted ones, And for all oaks of Bashan,

14 c ontro tutti gli alti monti e contro tutti i colli elevati,

And for all the high mountains, And for all the exalted heights,

15 c ontro ogni torre eccelsa e contro ogni muro fortificato,

And for every high tower, And for every fenced wall,

16 c ontro tutte le navi di Tarshish, e contro tutte le cose piacevoli.

And for all ships of Tarshish, And for all desirable pictures.

17 L 'alterigia dell'uomo sarà abbassata e l'orgoglio degli uomini eminenti sarà umiliato; soltanto l'Eterno sarà esaltato in quel giorno.

And bowed down hath been the haughtiness of man, And humbled the loftiness of men, And set on high hath Jehovah alone been in that day.

18 G li idoli saranno interamente aboliti.

And the idols -- they completely pass away.

19 G li uomini entreranno nelle caverne delle rocce e negli antri della terra davanti al terrore dell'Eterno e allo splendore della sua maestà, quando si leverà per far tremare la terra.

And have entered into caverns of rocks, And into caves of dust, Because of the fear of Jehovah, And because of the honour of His excellency, In His rising to terrify the earth.

20 I n quel giorno gli uomini getteranno ai topi e ai pipistrelli i loro idoli d'argento e i loro idoli d'oro, che si erano fabbricati per adorarli,

In that day doth man cast his idols of silver, And his idols of gold, That they have made for him to worship, To moles, and to bats,

21 p er entrare nelle fenditure delle rocce e nei crepacci delle rupi davanti al terrore dell'Eterno e davanti allo splendore della sua maestà, quando si leverà per far tremare la terra.

To enter into cavities of the rocks, And into clefts of the high places, Because of the fear of Jehovah, And because of the honour of His excellency, In His rising to terrify the earth.

22 C essate di confidare nell'uomo, nelle cui narici non c'è che un soffio: quale conto si può fare di lui?

Cease for you from man, Whose breath in his nostrils, For -- in what is he esteemed?
