1 A llora Mosè e i figli d'Israele cantarono questo cantico all'Eterno e parlarono dicendo: «Io canterò all'Eterno, perché si è grandemente esaltato; ha precipitato in mare cavallo e cavaliere.

Then singeth Moses and the sons of Israel this song to Jehovah, and they speak, saying: -- `I sing to Jehovah, For triumphing He hath triumphed; The horse and its rider He hath thrown into the sea.

2 L 'Eterno è la mia forza e il mio cantico, ed è stato la mia salvezza. Questo è il mio Dio, io lo glorificherò; è il DIO di mio padre io lo esalterò.

My strength and song is Jah, And He is become my salvation: This my God, and I glorify Him; God of my father, and I exalt Him.

3 L 'Eterno è un guerriero, il suo nome è l'Eterno.

Jehovah a man of battle; Jehovah His name.

4 E gli ha gettato in mare i carri del Faraone e il suo esercito, e i suoi migliori guerrieri sono stati sommersi nel Mar Rosso.

Chariots of Pharaoh and his force He hath cast into the sea; And the choice of his captains Have sunk in the Red Sea!

5 G li abissi li coprono; sono andati a fondo come una pietra.

The depths do cover them; They went down into the depths as a stone.

6 L a tua destra, o Eterno, mirabile nella sua potenza. La tua destra, o Eterno, frantuma i nemici.

Thy right hand, O Jehovah, Is become honourable in power; Thy right hand, O Jehovah, Doth crush an enemy.

7 C on la grandezza della tua maestà, tu rovesci quelli che si levano contro di te; tu mandi fuori la tua ira, essa li consuma come stoppia.

And in the abundance of Thine excellency Thou throwest down Thy withstanders, Thou sendest forth Thy wrath -- It consumeth them as stubble.

8 A l soffio delle tue narici le acque si sono ammucchiate, le onde si sono alzate come un muro i flutti si sono assodati nel cuore del mare.

And by the spirit of Thine anger Have waters been heaped together; Stood as a heap have flowings; Congealed have been depths In the heart of a sea.

9 I l nemico diceva: "Inseguirò, raggiungerò, dividerò le spoglie, la mia brama si sazierà su di loro; sguainerò la mia spada, la mia mano li sterminerà".

The enemy said, I pursue, I overtake; I apportion spoil; Filled is my soul with them; I draw out my sword; My hand destroyeth them: --

10 M a tu hai mandato fuori il tuo soffio e il mare li ha ricoperti; sono andati come piombo nelle potenti acque.

Thou hast blown with Thy wind The sea hath covered them; They sank as lead in mighty waters.

11 C hi è pari a te fra gli dei, o Eterno? Chi è pari a te, mirabile nella santità, maestoso nelle lodi, o operatore di prodigi?

Who like Thee among the gods, O Jehovah? Who like Thee -- honourable in holiness -- Fearful in praises -- doing wonders?

12 T u hai steso la destra, la terra li ha inghiottiti.

Thou hast stretched out Thy right hand -- Earth swalloweth them!

13 N ella tua misericordia, hai guidato il popolo che hai riscattato; con la tua forza lo hai condotto verso la tua santa dimora.

Thou hast led forth in Thy kindness The people whom Thou hast redeemed. Thou hast led on in Thy strength Unto Thy holy habitation.

14 I popoli l'hanno udito e tremano. L'angoscia ha colto gli abitanti della Filistia.

Peoples have heard, they are troubled; Pain hath seized inhabitants of Philistia.

15 G ià sono smarriti i capi di Edom, i potenti di Moab sono presi da tremore, tutti gli abitanti di Canaan si struggono.

Then have chiefs of Edom been troubled: Mighty ones of Moab -- Trembling doth seize them! Melted have all inhabitants of Canaan!

16 S pavento e terrore piomberà su di loro. Per la forza del tuo braccio diventeranno immobili come una pietra, finché il tuo popolo, o Eterno, sia passato, finché sia passato il popolo che tu hai acquistato.

Fall on them doth terror and dread; By the greatness of Thine arm They are still as a stone, Till Thy people pass over, O Jehovah; Till the people pass over Whom Thou hast purchased.

17 T u li introdurrai e li pianterai sul monte della tua eredità, il luogo che hai preparato, o Eterno, per tua dimora, il santuario che le tue mani, o Signore, hanno stabilito.

Thou dost bring them in, And dost plant them In a mountain of Thine inheritance, A fixed place for Thy dwelling Thou hast made, O Jehovah; A sanctuary, O Lord, Thy hands have established;

18 L 'Eterno regnerà per sempre, in perpetuo».

Jehovah reigneth -- to the age, and for ever!'

19 P oiché i cavalli del Faraone coi suoi carri e i suoi cavalieri erano entrati nel mare e l'Eterno aveva fatto ritornare su di loro e acque del mare, ma i figli d'Israele avevano camminato in mezzo al mare, all'asciutto.

For the horse of Pharaoh hath gone in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and Jehovah turneth back on them the waters of the sea, and the sons of Israel have gone on dry land in the midst of the sea.

20 A llora Miriam, la profetessa, sorella di Aaronne, prese in mano il tamburello, e tutte le donne uscirono dietro a lei coi tamburelli e con danze.

And Miriam the inspired one, sister of Aaron, taketh the timbrel in her hand, and all the women go out after her, with timbrels and with choruses;

21 E Miriam cantava loro: «Cantate all'Eterno perché si è grandemente esaltato; ha precipitato in mare cavallo e cavaliere».

and Miriam answereth to them: -- `Sing ye to Jehovah, For Triumphing He hath triumphed; The horse and its rider He hath thrown into the sea!'

22 P oi Mosè fece partire gli Israeliti dal Mar Rosso ed essi si diressero verso il deserto di Shur; camminarono tre giorni nel deserto e non trovarono acqua.

And Moses causeth Israel to journey from the Red Sea, and they go out unto the wilderness of Shur, and they go three days in the wilderness, and have not found water,

23 Q uando giunsero a Mara non poterono bere le acque di Mara perché erano amare; perciò quel luogo fu chiamato Mara.

and they come in to Marah, and have not been able to drink the waters of Marah, for they bitter; therefore hath called its name Marah.

24 A llora il popolo mormorò contro Mosè, dicendo: «Che berremo?».

And the people murmur against Moses, saying, `What do we drink?'

25 C osì egli gridò all'Eterno; e l'Eterno gli mostrò un segno; egli lo gettò nelle acque, e le acque divennero dolci. Là l'Eterno diede a popolo una legge e un decreto e lo mise alla prova,

and he crieth unto Jehovah, and Jehovah sheweth him a tree, and he casteth unto the waters, and the waters become sweet. There He hath made for them a statute, and an ordinance, and there He hath tried them,

26 e disse: «Se tu ascolti attentamente la voce dell'Eterno, il tuo DIO, e fai ciò che è giusto ai suoi occhi e porgi orecchio ai suoi comandamenti e osservi tutte le sue leggi io non ti manderò addosso alcuna delle malattie che ho mandato addosso agli Egiziani perché io sono l'Eterno che ti guarisco».

and He saith, `If thou dost really hearken to the voice of Jehovah thy God, and dost that which is right in His eyes, and hast hearkened to His commands, and kept all His statutes: none of the sickness which I laid on the Egyptians do I lay on thee, for I, Jehovah, am healing thee.

27 G iunsero quindi ad Elim, dov'erano dodici sorgenti d'acqua e settanta palme; e vi si accamparono presso le acque.

And they come to Elim, and there twelve fountains of water, and seventy palm trees; and they encamp there by the waters.
