1 P aolo, servo di Gesú Cristo, chiamato ad essere apostolo, appartato per l'evangelo di Dio,

Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, a called apostle, having been separated to the good news of God --

2 c ome egli aveva già promesso per mezzo dei suoi profeti nelle sante Scritture,

which He announced before through His prophets in holy writings --

3 r iguardo a suo Figlio, nato dal seme di Davide secondo la carne,

concerning His Son, (who is come of the seed of David according to the flesh,

4 d ichiarato Figlio di Dio in potenza, secondo lo Spirito di santità mediante la resurrezione dai morti: Gesú Cristo, nostro Signore,

who is marked out Son of God in power, according to the Spirit of sanctification, by the rising again from the dead,) Jesus Christ our Lord;

5 p er mezzo del quale noi abbiamo ricevuto grazia e apostolato, per l'ubbidienza di fede fra tutte le genti per amore del suo nome,

through whom we did receive grace and apostleship, for obedience of faith among all the nations, in behalf of his name;

6 f ra le quali anche voi siete stati chiamati da Gesú Cristo;

among whom are also ye, the called of Jesus Christ;

7 a voi tutti che siete in Roma, amati da Dio, chiamati santi: grazia e pace da Dio nostro Padre e dal Signore Gesú Cristo.

to all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called saints; Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ!

8 P rima di tutto, rendo grazie al mio Dio per mezzo di Gesú Cristo per tutti voi, perché la vostra fede è pubblicata in tutto il mondo.

first, indeed, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is proclaimed in the whole world;

9 P erché Dio, a cui io servo nel mio spirito mediante l'evangelo di suo Figlio, mi è testimone che non smetto mai di menzionarvi,

for God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the good news of His Son, how unceasingly I make mention of you,

10 c hiedendo continuamente nelle mie preghiere che mi sia finalmente concessa dalla volontà di Dio l'opportunità di venire da voi,

always in my prayers beseeching, if by any means now at length I shall have a prosperous journey, by the will of God, to come unto you,

11 p erché io desidero grandemente vedervi per comunicarvi qualche dono spirituale, affinché siate fortificati.

for I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, that ye may be established;

12 E questo è per essere in mezzo a voi consolato insieme mediante la fede che abbiamo in comune, vostra e mia.

and that is, that I may be comforted together among you, through the faith in one another, both yours and mine.

13 O ra, fratelli, io non voglio che ignoriate che molte volte mi sono proposto di venire da voi per avere qualche frutto fra voi come ne ho avuto fra le altre genti, ma finora ne sono stato impedito.

And I do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren, that many times I did purpose to come unto you -- and was hindered till the present time -- that some fruit I might have also among you, even as also among the other nations.

14 I o sono debitore ai Greci e ai barbari, ai savi e agli ignoranti.

Both to Greeks and to foreigners, both to wise and to thoughtless, I am a debtor,

15 C osí, quanto a me, sono pronto ad evangelizzare anche voi che siete in Roma.

so, as much as in me is, I am ready also to you who in Rome to proclaim good news,

16 I nfatti io non mi vergogno dell'evangelo di Cristo, perché esso è la potenza di Dio per la salvezza, di chiunque crede, del Giudeo prima e poi del Greco.

for I am not ashamed of the good news of the Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation to every one who is believing, both to Jew first, and to Greek.

17 P erché la giustizia di Dio è rivelata in esso di fede in fede, come sta scritto: «Il giusto vivrà per fede».

For the righteousness of God in it is revealed from faith to faith, according as it hath been written, `And the righteous one by faith shall live,'

18 P erché l'ira di Dio si rivela dal cielo sopra ogni empietà e ingiustizia degli uomini, che soffocano la verità nell'ingiustizia,

for revealed is the wrath of God from heaven upon all impiety and unrighteousness of men, holding down the truth in unrighteousness.

19 p oiché ciò che si può conoscere di Dio è manifesto in loro, perché Dio lo ha loro manifestato.

Because that which is known of God is manifest among them, for God did manifest to them,

20 I nfatti le sue qualità invisibili, la sua eterna potenza e divinità, essendo evidenti per mezzo delle sue opere fin dalla creazione del mondo, si vedono chiaramente, affinché siano inescusabili.

for the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world, by the things made being understood, are plainly seen, both His eternal power and Godhead -- to their being inexcusable;

21 P oiché, pur avendo conosciuto Dio, non l'hanno però glorificato né l'hanno ringraziato come Dio, anzi sono divenuti insensati nei loro ragionamenti e il loro cuore senza intendimento si è ottenebrato.

because, having known God they did not glorify as God, nor gave thanks, but were made vain in their reasonings, and their unintelligent heart was darkened,

22 D ichiarandosi di essere savi, sono diventati stolti,

professing to be wise, they were made fools,

23 e hanno mutato la gloria dell'incorruttibile Dio in un'immagine simile a quella di un uomo corruttibile, di uccelli, di bestie quadrupedi e di rettili.

and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of fowls, and of quadrupeds, and of reptiles.

24 P erciò Dio li ha abbandonati all'impurità nelle concupiscenze dei loro cuori, sí da vituperare i loro corpi tra loro stessi.

Wherefore also God did give them up, in the desires of their hearts, to uncleanness, to dishonour their bodies among themselves;

25 E ssi che hanno cambiato la verità di Dio in menzogna e hanno adorato e servito la creatura, al posto del Creatore che è benedetto in eterno. Amen.

who did change the truth of God into a falsehood, and did honour and serve the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed to the ages. Amen.

26 P er questo Dio li ha abbandonati a passioni infami, poiché anche le loro donne hanno mutato la relazione naturale in quella che è contro natura.

Because of this did God give them up to dishonourable affections, for even their females did change the natural use into that against nature;

27 N ello stesso modo gli uomini, lasciata la relazione naturale con la donna, si sono accesi nella loro libidine gli uni verso gli altri, commettendo atti indecenti uomini con uomini, ricevendo in se stessi la ricompensa dovuta al loro traviamento.

and in like manner also the males having left the natural use of the female, did burn in their longing toward one another; males with males working shame, and the recompense of their error that was fit, in themselves receiving.

28 E siccome non ritennero opportuno conoscere Dio, Dio li ha abbandonati ad una mente perversa, da far cose sconvenienti,

And, according as they did not approve of having God in knowledge, God gave them up to a disapproved mind, to do the things not seemly;

29 e ssendo ripieni d'ogni ingiustizia fornicazione, malvagità, cupidigia, malizia; pieni d'invidia, omicidio, contesa frode, malignità,

having been filled with all unrighteousness, whoredom, wickedness, covetousness, malice; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil dispositions; whisperers,

30 i ngannatori, maldicenti, nemici di Dio, ingiuriosi, superbi, vanagloriosi ideatori di cose malvagie, disubbidienti, al genitori,

evil-speakers, God-haters, insulting, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 s enza intendimento, senza affidamento, senza affetto naturale, implacabili, spietati.

unintelligent, faithless, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful;

32 O r essi, pur avendo riconosciuto il decreto di Dio secondo cui quelli che fanno tali cose sono degni di morte, non solo le fanno, ma approvano anche coloro che le commettono.

who the righteous judgment of God having known -- that those practising such things are worthy of death -- not only do them, but also have delight with those practising them.
