1 P oi tutta l'assemblea dei figli d'Israele arrivò al deserto di Sin nel primo mese, e il popolo si fermò a Kadesh. Là mori Miriam e là fu sepolta.

And the sons of Israel come in, -- all the company -- to the wilderness of Zin, in the first month, and the people abide in Kadesh, and Miriam dieth there, and is buried there.

2 O r mancava l'acqua per l'assemblea, per cui si radunarono contro Mosè e contro Aaronne.

And there hath been no water for the company, and they are assembled against Moses, and against Aaron,

3 C osì il popolo contese con Mosè e gli parlò, dicendo: «Fossimo morti quando morirono i nostri fratelli davanti all'Eterno!

and the people strive with Moses, and speak, saying, `And oh that we had expired when our brethren expired before Jehovah!

4 P erché avete condotto l'assemblea dell'Eterno in questo deserto a morirvi, noi e il nostro bestiame?

and why have ye brought in the assembly of Jehovah unto this wilderness to die there, we and our beasts?

5 E perché ci avete fatti salire dall'Egitto per condurci in questo brutto luogo? Non è un luogo di grano o di fichi o di vigne o di melograni, e non c'è acqua da bere».

and why hast thou brought us up out of Egypt to bring us in unto this evil place? no place of seed, and fig, and vine, and pomegranate; and water there is none to drink.

6 A llora Mosè ed Aaronne si allontanarono dall'assemblea per recarsi all'ingresso della tenda di convegno e si prostrarono con la faccia a terra; e la gloria dell'Eterno apparve loro.

And Moses and Aaron go in from the presence of the assembly unto the opening of the tent of meeting, and fall on their faces, and the honour of Jehovah is seen by them.

7 P oi l'Eterno parlò a Mosè, dicendo:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

8 p rendi il bastone; tu e tuo fratello Aaronne convocate l'assemblea e davanti ai loro occhi parlate alla roccia, ed essa darà la sua acqua; così farai sgorgare per loro acqua dalla roccia e darai da bere all'assemblea e al suo bestiame».

`Take the rod, and assemble the company, thou and Aaron thy brother; and ye have spoken unto the rock before their eyes, and it hath given its water, and thou hast brought out to them water from the rock, and hast watered the company, and their beasts.'

9 M osè dunque prese il bastone che era davanti all'Eterno, come l'Eterno gli aveva ordinato.

And Moses taketh the rod from before Jehovah, as He hath commanded him,

10 C osì Mosè ed Aaronne convocarono l'assemblea davanti alla roccia e Mosè disse loro: «Ora ascoltate, o ribelli; dobbiamo far uscire acqua per voi da questa roccia?».

and Moses and Aaron assemble the assembly unto the front of the rock, and he saith to them, `Hear, I pray you, O rebels, from this rock do we bring out to you water?'

11 P oi Mosè alzò la mano, percosse la roccia col suo bastone due volte, e ne uscì acqua in abbondanza; e l'assemblea e il suo bestiame bevvero.

and Moses lifteth up his hand, and smiteth the rock with his rod twice; and much water cometh out, and the company drink, also their beasts.

12 A llora l'Eterno disse a Mosè e ad Aaronne: «Poiché non avete creduto in me per dare gloria a me agli occhi dei figli d'Israele, voi non introdurrete questa assemblea nel paese che io ho dato loro».

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, and unto Aaron, `Because ye have not believed in Me to sanctify Me before the eyes of the sons of Israel, therefore ye do not bring in this assembly unto the land which I have given to them.'

13 Q ueste sono le acque di Meriba dove i figli d'Israele contesero con l'Eterno, ed egli si mostrò Santo in mezzo a loro.

These waters of Meribah, because the sons of Israel have `striven' with Jehovah, and He is sanctified upon them.

14 P oi Mosè mandò da Kadesh degli ambasciatori al re di Edom a dirgli: «Così dice Israele tuo fratello: Tu conosci tutte le avversità che abbiamo incontrato,

And Moses sendeth messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, `Thus said thy brother Israel, Thou -- thou hast known all the travail which hath found us;

15 c ome i nostri padri scesero in Egitto e noi dimorammo in Egitto per lungo tempo, e gli Egiziani maltrattarono noi e i nostri padri.

that our fathers go down to Egypt, and we dwell in Egypt many days, and the Egyptians do evil to us and to our fathers;

16 M a, quando gridammo all'Eterno, egli udì la nostra voce e mandò un Angelo, e ci fece uscire dall'Egitto; ed eccoci ora in Kadesh, una città ai margini dei tuoi confini.

and we cry unto Jehovah, and He heareth our voice, and sendeth a messenger, and is bringing us out of Egypt; and lo, we in Kadesh, a city the extremity of thy border.

17 D eh, lasciaci passare per il tuo paese, noi non passeremo né per campi né per vigne e non berremo l'acqua dei pozzi; seguiremo la via Regia, senza deviare né a destra né a sinistra, finche avremo Oltrepassati i tuoi confini».

Let us pass over, we pray thee, through thy land; we pass not over through a field, or through a vineyard, nor do we drink waters of a well; the way of the king we go, we turn not aside -- right or left -- till that we pass over thy border.'

18 M a Edom rispose: «Tu non passerai sul mio territorio, altrimenti ti verrò contro con la spada».

And Edom saith unto him, `Thou dost not pass over through me, lest with sword I come out to meet thee.'

19 I figli d'Israele gli dissero: «Noi saliremo per la strada maestra; e se noi e il nostro bestiame berremo della tua acqua, te la pagheremo; lasciami soltanto transitare a piedi e niente più».

And the sons of Israel say unto him, `In the highway we go, and if of thy waters we drink -- I and my cattle -- then I have given their price; only (it is nothing) on my feet I pass over.'

20 M a egli rispose: «Non passerai!». E Edom uscì contro Israele con molta gente e con mano forte.

And he saith, `Thou dost not pass over;' and Edom cometh out to meet him with much people, and with a strong hand;

21 C osì Edom rifiutò di lasciar passare Israele attraverso il suo territorio, per cui Israele si allontanò da lui.

and Edom refuseth to suffer Israel to pass over through his border, and Israel turneth aside from off him.

22 A llora i figli d'Israele, tutta l'assemblea, partirono da Kadesh e arrivarono al monte Hor.

And the sons of Israel, the whole company, journey from Kadesh, and come in unto mount Hor,

23 E l'Eterno parlò a Mosè e ad Aaronne al monte Hor, sui confini del paese di Edom, dicendo:

and Jehovah speaketh unto Moses and unto Aaron in mount Hor, on the border of the land of Edom, saying,

24 « Aaronne sta per essere riunito al suo popolo, e non entrerà nel paese che ho dato ai figli d'Israele, perché vi siete ribellati al mio comando alle acque di Meriba.

`Aaron is gathered unto his people, for he doth not go in unto the land which I have given to the sons of Israel, because that ye provoked My mouth at the waters of Meribah.

25 P rendi Aaronne ed Eleazar suo figlio e falli salire sul monte Hor.

`Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and cause them to go up mount Hor,

26 S poglia Aaronne delle sue vesti e falle indossare a Eleazar suo figlio; e là Aaronne sarà riunito al suo popolo e morrà».

and strip Aaron of his garments, and thou hast clothed them Eleazar his son, and Aaron is gathered, and doth die there.'

27 C osì Mosè fece come l'Eterno aveva ordinato; ed essi salirono sul monte Hor davanti agli occhi di tutta l'assemblea.

And Moses doth as Jehovah hath commanded, and they go up unto mount Hor before the eyes of all the company,

28 M osè spogliò Aaronne delle sue vesti e le fece indossare a Eleazar, suo figlio; e Aaronne morì là, sulla cima del monte. Poi Mosè ed Eleazar scesero dal monte.

and Moses strippeth Aaron of his garments, and clotheth with them Eleazar his son, and Aaron dieth there on the top of the mount; and Moses cometh down -- Eleazar also -- from the mount,

29 Q uando tutta l'assemblea vide che Aaronne era morto, tutta la casa d'Israele pianse Aaronne per trenta giorni.

and all the company see that Aaron hath expired, and they bewail Aaron thirty days -- all the house of Israel.
