1 P oi vennero da me alcuni anziani d'Israele e sedettero davanti a me.

And come in unto me do certain of the elders of Israel, and sit before me.

2 A llora la parola dell'Eterno mi fu rivolta, dicendo:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying,

3 « Figlio d'uomo, questi uomini hanno eretto i loro idoli nel loro cuore e hanno posto davanti a sé l'intoppo che li fa cadere nell'iniquità. Mi lascerò dunque consultare da costoro?

`Son of man, these men have caused their idols to go up on their heart, and the stumbling-block of their iniquity they have put over-against their faces; am I inquired of at all by them?

4 P erciò parla e di' loro: Cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: Chiunque della casa d'Israele erige i suoi idoli nel suo cuore e pone davanti a sè l'intoppo che lo fa cadere nell'iniquità e poi viene dal profeta, gli risponderò io, l'Eterno, a proposito di questo, secondo la moltitudine dei suoi idoli

`Therefore, speak with them, and thou hast said unto them: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: Every one of the house of Israel who causeth his idols to go up unto his heart, and the stumbling-block of his iniquity setteth over-against his face, and hath gone in unto the prophet -- I Jehovah have given an answer to him for this, for the abundance of his idols,

5 p er far presa sui cuori di quelli della casa d'Israele che si sono allontanati da me a motivo di tutti i loro idoli.

in order to catch the house of Israel by their heart, in that they have become estranged from off me by their idols -- all of them.

6 P erciò di' alla casa d'Israele: Cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: Convertitevi, allontanatevi dai vostri idoli e distogliete la faccia da tutte le vostre abominazioni.

`Therefore say unto the house of Israel: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: Turn ye back, yea, turn ye back from your idols, and from all your abominations turn back your faces,

7 P oiché, se un individuo qualsiasi della casa d'Israele o degli stranieri che risiedono in Israele si separa da me, erige i suoi idoli nel suo cuore e pone davanti a sé l'intoppo che lo fa cadere nell'iniquità e poi viene dal profeta per consultarmi per suo mezzo, gli risponderò io, l'Eterno da me stesso.

for every one of the house of Israel, and of the sojourners who doth sojourn in Israel, who is separated from after Me, and doth cause his idols to go up unto his heart, and the stumbling-block of his iniquity setteth over-against his face, and hath come in unto the prophet to inquire of him concerning Me, I, Jehovah, have answered him for Myself;

8 V olgerò la mia faccia contro quell'uomo, ne farò un segno e un proverbio e lo sterminerò di mezzo al mio popolo; allora riconoscerete che io sono l'Eterno.

and I have set My face against that man, and made him for a sign, and for similes, and I have cut him off from the midst of My people, and ye have known that I Jehovah.

9 M a se il profeta si lascia sedurre e dice qualche parola, io l'Eterno, ho sedotto quel profeta; stenderò quindi la mia mano contro di lui e lo distruggerò di mezzo al mio popolo d'Israele.

`And the prophet, when he is enticed, and hath spoken a word -- I, Jehovah, I have enticed that prophet, and have stretched out My hand against him, and have destroyed him from the midst of My people Israel.

10 A mbedue porteranno la pena della loro iniquità: la pena del profeta sarà uguale alla pena di chi lo consulta,

And they have borne their iniquity: as the iniquity of the inquirer, so is the iniquity of the prophet;

11 a ffinché quelli della casa d'Israele, non vadano più errando lontano da me e non si contaminino piú con tutte le loro trasgressioni, ma siano mio popolo e io sia il loro DIO», dice il Signore l'Eterno.

so that the house of Israel do not wander any more from after Me, nor are defiled any more with all their transgressions, and they have been to Me for a people, and I am to them for God -- an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah.'

12 L a parola dell'Eterno mi fu ancora rivolta, dicendo:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying,

13 « Figlio d'uomo, se un paese pecca contro di me essendo ripetutamente infedele, io stenderò la mia mano contro di lui, gli spezzerò il sostegno del pane, gli manderò contro la fame e ne sterminerò uomini e bestie.

`Son of man, the land -- when it sinneth against Me to commit a trespass, and I have stretched out My hand against it, and broken for it the staff of bread, and sent into it famine, and cut off from it man and beast --

14 A nche se nel suo mezzo ci fossero questi tre uomini, Noè, Daniele e Giobbe per la loro giustizia salverebbero unicamente se stessi», dice il Signore, l'Eterno.

and these three men have been in its midst, Noah, Daniel, and Job -- they by their righteousness deliver their own soul -- an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah.

15 « Se invece facessi passare per quel paese delle bestie feroci che lo spopolassero e diventasse una desolazione, dove piú nessuno passasse a motivo di quelle bestie

`If an evil beast I cause to pass through the land, and it hath bereaved, and it hath been a desolation, without any passing through because of the beast --

16 a nche se nel suo mezzo ci fossero quei tre uomini, com vero che io vivo», dice il Signore, l'Eterno, «essi non salverebbero né figli né figlie; salverebbero unicamente se stessi, ma il paese sarebbe una desolazione.

these three men in its midst: I live -- an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah -- neither sons nor daughters do they deliver; they alone are delivered, and the land is a desolation.

17 O ppure se facessi venire la spada contro quel paese e dicessi: "Passi la spada per il paese" e ne sterminasse uomini e bestie,

`Or -- a sword I bring in against that land, and I have said: Sword, thou dost pass over through the land, and I have cut off from it man and beast --

18 a nche se nel suo mezzo ci fossero quei tre uomini, com vero che io vivo», dice il Signore, l'Eterno «essi non salverebbero né figli né figlie, ma salverebbero unicamente se stessi.

and these three men in its midst: I live -- an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah -- they deliver not sons and daughters, for they alone are delivered.

19 O ppure se mandassi contro quel paese la peste e riversassi su di esso il mio furore facendo strage e sterminando uomini e bestie,

`Or -- pestilence I send unto that land, and I have poured out My fury against it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast --

20 a nche se nel suo mezzo ci fossero Noè, Daniele e Giobbe, com'è vero che io vivo», dice il Signore, l'Eterno «essi non salverebbero né figli né figlie; per la loro giustizia salverebbero unicamente se stessi».

and Noah, Daniel, and Job, in its midst: I live -- an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah -- neither son nor daughter do they deliver; they, by their righteousness, deliver their own soul.

21 P oiché cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: «Lo stesso avverrà quando manderò contro Gerusalemme, i miei quattro tremendi giudizi, la spada, la fame, le bestie feroci e la peste, per sterminare uomini e bestie.

`For thus said the Lord Jehovah: Although My four sore judgments -- sword, and famine, and wild beast, and pestilence -- I have sent unto Jerusalem, to cut off from it man and beast,

22 M a ecco, vi sarà lasciato un residuo che sarà condotto fuori, figli e figlie; essi verranno da voi e voi vedrete la loro condotta e le loro azioni. Allora sarete consolati del male che ho fatto venire su Gerusalemme, per tutto ciò che ho fatto venire su di lei.

yet, lo, there hath been left in it an escape, who are brought forth, sons and daughters, lo, they are coming forth unto you, and ye have seen their way, and their doings, and have been comforted concerning the evil that I have brought in against Jerusalem, all that which I have brought in against it.

23 E ssi vi consoleranno quando vedrete la loro condotta e le loro azioni. Cosí riconoscerete che non senza ragione ho fatto quel che ho fatto in mezzo a lei», dice il Signore, l'Eterno.

And they have comforted you, for ye see their way and their doings, and ye have known that not for nought have I done all that which I have done in her -- an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah.'
