1 N el secondo anno di Joas figlio di Jehoahaz, re d'Israele, iniziò a regnare Amatsiah, figlio di Joas, re di Giuda.

In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel reigned hath Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah;

2 Q uando iniziò a regnare aveva venticinque anni, e regnò ventinove anni a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Jehoaddan ed era di Gerusalemme.

a son of twenty and five years was he in his reigning, and twenty and nine years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother Jehoaddan of Jerusalem,

3 E gli fece ciò che è giusto agli occhi dell'Eterno, ma non come Davide suo padre; fece in tutto come aveva fatto Joas suo padre.

and he doth that which right in the eyes of Jehovah, only not like David his father, according to all that Joash his father did he hath done,

4 T uttavia gli alti luoghi non vennero rimossi; il popolo continuava a fare sacrifici e a bruciare incenso sugli alti luoghi.

only, the high places have not turned aside -- yet are the people sacrificing and making perfume in high places.

5 O ra, non appena il regno fu saldo nelle sue mani, egli fece morire i suoi servi che avevano ucciso il re suo padre;

And it cometh to pass, when the kingdom hath been strong in his hand, that he smiteth his servants, those smiting the king his father,

6 m a non fece morire i figli degli uccisori, secondo ciò che è scritto nel libro della legge di Mosè, in cui l'Eterno ha comandato, dicendo: «I padri non saranno messi a morte per i figli né i figli saranno messi a morte per i padri; ma ognuno sarà messo a morte per il proprio peccato�

and the sons of those smiting he hath not put to death, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses that Jehovah commanded, saying, `Fathers are not put to death for sons, and sons are not put to death for fathers, but each for his own sin is put to death.'

7 E gli uccise diecimila Idumei nella valle del Sale; e in guerra prese Sela e le diede il nome di Joktheel, che è rimasto fino al giorno d'oggi.

He hath smitten Edom, in the valley of salt -- ten thousand, and seized Selah in war, and calleth its name Joktheel unto this day,

8 A llora Amatsiah inviò messaggeri a Joas figlio di Jehoahaz, figlio di Jehu, re d'Israele, per dirgli: «Vieni, affrontiamoci l'un l'altro in battaglia».

then hath Amaziah sent messengers unto Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, `Come, we look one another in the face.'

9 J oas, re d'Israele, mandò a dire ad Amatsiah, re di Giuda: «La spina del Libano mandò a dire al cedro del Libano: "Da' tua figlia in moglie a mio figlio". Ma di lí passò una bestia selvaggia del Libano e calpestò la spina.

And Jehoash king of Israel sendeth unto Amaziah king of Judah, saying, `The thorn that in Lebanon hath sent unto the cedar that in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son for a wife; and pass by doth a beast of the field that in Lebanon, and treadeth down the thorn.

10 T u hai sconfitto Edom e il tuo cuore ti ha reso orgoglioso. Gloriati pure, ma resta a casa tua. Perché vorresti provocare una sciagura, mandando in rovina te e Giuda con te?».

Thou hast certainly smitten Edom, and thy heart hath lifted thee up; be honoured, and abide in thy house; and why dost thou stir thyself up in evil, that thou hast fallen, thou, and Judah with thee?'

11 M a Amatsiah non gli diede ascolto. Cosí Joas, re d'Israele, salí; perciò egli ed Amatsiah, re di Giuda, si affrontarono l'un l'altro a Beth-Scemesh, che apparteneva a Giuda.

And Amaziah hath not hearkened, and go up doth Jehoash king of Israel, and they look one another in the face, he and Amaziah king of Judah, in Beth-Shemesh, that Judah's,

12 G iuda fu sconfitto da Israele, e ognuno fuggí alla propria tenda.

and Judah is smitten before Israel, and they flee each to his tent.

13 A Beth-Scemesh Joas, re d'Israele, catturò Amatsiah re di Giuda, figlio di Joas, figlio di Achaziah. Poi andò a Gerusalemme e fece una breccia di quattrocento cubiti nelle mura di Gerusalemme, dalla porta di Efraim alla porta dell'Angolo.

And Amaziah king of Judah, son of Jehoash son of Ahaziah, caught hath Jehoash king of Israel in Beth-Shemesh, and they come in to Jerusalem, and he bursteth through the wall of Jerusalem, at the gate of Ephraim unto the gate of the corner, four hundred cubits,

14 I noltre prese tutto l'oro e l'argento e tutti gli oggetti che si trovavano nella casa dell'Eterno e nei tesori della casa del re, insieme con gli ostaggi, e tornò in Samaria.

and hath taken all the gold and the silver, and all the vessels that are found in the house of Jehovah, and in the treasures of the house of the king, and the sons of the pledges, and turneth back to Samaria.

15 I l resto delle gesta compiute da Joas, il suo valore e come combattè contro Amatsiah re di Giuda, non è scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re d'Israele?

And the rest of the matters of Jehoash that he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?

16 C osí Joas si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto in Samaria con i re d'Israele. Al suo posto regnò suo figlio Geroboamo.

And Jehoash lieth with his fathers, and is buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel, and reign doth Jeroboam his son in his stead.

17 A matsiah figlio di Joas, re di Giuda visse ancora quindici anni dopo la morte di Joas figlio di Jehoahaz, re d'Israele.

And Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah liveth after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years,

and the rest of the matters of Amaziah are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Judah?

19 C ontro di lui si ordí una congiura a Gerusalemme ed egli fuggí a Lakish; ma lo fecero Inseguire fino a Lakish, dove lo uccisero.

And they make a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem, and he fleeth to Lachish, and they send after him to Lachish, and put him to death there,

20 L o trasportarono quindi su cavalli e fu sepolto a Gerusalemme con i suoi padri nella città di Davide.

and lift him up on the horses, and he is buried in Jerusalem, with his fathers, in the city of David.

21 A llora tutto il popolo di Giuda prese Azariah, che aveva allora sedici anni, e lo fece re al posto di suo padre Amatsiah.

And all the people of Judah take Azariah, and he a son of sixteen years, and cause him to reign instead of his father Amaziah;

he hath built Elath, and bringeth it back to Judah, after the lying of the king with his fathers.

23 N el quindicesimo anno di Amatsiah figlio di Joas, re di Giuda, iniziò a regnare a Samaria Geroboamo figlio di Joas, re d'Israele, e regnò quarantun anni.

In the fifteenth year of Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah, reigned hath Jeroboam son of Joash king of Israel in Samaria -- forty and one years,

24 E gli fece ciò che è male agli occhi dell'Eterno; non si allontanò da nessuno dei peccati di Geroboamo figlio di Nebat, che aveva fatto peccare Israele.

and he doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, he hath not turned aside from all the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat that he caused Israel to sin.

25 E gli ristabilí i confini d'Israele dall'ingresso di Hamath al mare dell'Arabah, secondo la parola dell'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele, pronunciata per mezzo del profeta Giona figlio di Amittai, che era di Gath-Hefer.

He hath brought back the border of Israel, from the entering in of Hamath unto the sea of the desert, according to the word of Jehovah, God of Israel, that He spake by the hand of His servant Jonah son of Amittai the prophet, who of Gath-Hepher,

26 L 'Eterno infatti aveva visto che l'afflizione d'Israele era amarissima; non c'era piú né schiavo né libero, e non c'era alcuno che venisse in aiuto a Israele.

for Jehovah hath seen the affliction of Israel -- very bitter, and there is none restrained, and there is none left, and there is no helper to Israel;

27 L 'Eterno non aveva ancora detto di cancellare il nome d'Israele di sotto il cielo; perciò li salvò per mezzo di Geroboamo figlio di Joas.

and Jehovah hath not spoken to blot out the name of Israel from under the heavens, and saveth them by the hand of Jeroboam son of Joash.

28 I l resto delle gesta di Geroboamo, tutto ciò che fece, il suo valore in guerra e come riconquistò a Israele Damasco e Hamath che erano appartenuti a Giuda non è scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re d'Israele?

And the rest of the matters of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might with which he fought, and with which he brought back Damascus, and Hamath of Judah, into Israel, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?

29 C osí Geroboamo si addormentò con i suoi padri, i re d'Israele. Al suo posto regnò suo figlio Zaccaria.

And Jeroboam lieth with his fathers, with the kings of Israel, and reign doth Zechariah his son in his stead.
