1 A l tempo di Davide ci fu una carestia per tre anni continui, Davide cercò la faccia dell'Eterno e l'Eterno gli disse: «Questo avviene a motivo di Saul e della sua casa sanguinaria, perché egli ha fatto morire i Gabaoniti».

And there is a famine in the days of David three years, year after year, and David seeketh the face of Jehovah, and Jehovah saith, `For Saul and for the bloody house, because that he put to death the Gibeonites.'

2 A llora il re chiamò i Gabaoniti, e parlò loro. (Ora i Gabaoniti non appartenevano ai figli d'Israele, ma a un residuo degli Amorei; i figli d'Israele avevano loro giurato di risparmiarli, ma Saul, nel suo zelo per i figli d'Israele e di Giuda, aveva cercato di sterminarli).

And the king calleth for the Gibeonites, and saith unto them -- as to the Gibeonites, they not of the sons of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorite, and the sons of Israel had sworn to them, and Saul seeketh to smite them in his zeal for the sons of Israel and Judah --

3 D avide perciò disse ai Gabaoniti «Che devo fare per voi e in che modo potrò riparare, perché voi benediciate l'eredità dell'Eterno?».

yea, David saith unto the Gibeonites, `What do I do for you? and with what do I make atonement? and bless ye the inheritance of Jehovah.'

4 I Gabaoniti gli risposero: «A noi non interessa avere oro o argento da Saul e dalla sua casa, né voi dovete uccidere per noi alcun uomo in Israele». Il re disse: «Quello che voi chiedete io lo farò per voi».

And the Gibeonites say to him, `We have no silver and gold by Saul and by his house, and we have no man to put to death in Israel;' and he saith, `What ye are saying I do to you.'

5 E ssi risposero al re: «Per l'uomo che ci ha consumati e che aveva ideato di sterminarci per farci sparire da tutto il territorio d'Israele,

And they say unto the king, `The man who consumed us, and who devised against us -- we have been destroyed from stationing ourselves in all the border of Israel --

6 c i siano consegnati sette uomini tra i suoi discendenti e noi li impiccheremo davanti all'Eterno a Ghibeah di Saul, l'eletto dell'Eterno». Il re disse: «Ve li consegnerò».

let there be given to us seven men of his sons, and we have hanged them before Jehovah, in the height of Saul, the chosen of Jehovah.' And the king saith, `I do give;'

7 I l re risparmiò Mefibosceth figlio di Gionathan, figlio di Saul a causa del giuramento dell'Eterno che c'era fra di loro tra Davide e Gionathan, figlio di Saul.

and the king hath pity on Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, son of Saul, because of the oath of Jehovah that between them, between David and Jonathan son of Saul;

8 M a il re prese i due figli, che Ritspah figlia di Aiah aveva partorito a Saul, Armoni e Mefibosceth, e i cinque figli, che Mikal, figlia di Saul, aveva partorito ad Adriel di Mehola, figlio di Barzillai,

and the king taketh the two sons of Rizpah daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth, and the five sons of Michal daughter of Saul whom she bare to Adriel son of Barzillai the Meholathite,

9 e li consegnò ai Gabaoniti, che li impiccarono sul monte, davanti all'Eterno. Cosí furono messi a morte nei primi giorni della mietitura, quando si iniziava a mietere l'orzo.

and giveth them into the hand of the Gibeonites, and they hang them in the hill before Jehovah; and the seven fall together, and they have been put to death in the days of harvest, in the first, the commencement of barley-harvest.

10 R itspah, figlia di Aiah, prese un cilicio e se lo stese sulla roccia, rimanendo là dal principio della mietitura finché non cadde su di loro pioggia dal cielo. Essa non permise agli uccelli del cielo di posarsi su di loro di giorno, né alle fiere dei campi di accostarvisi di notte.

And Rizpah daughter of Aiah taketh the sackcloth, and stretcheth it out for herself on the rock, from the commencement of harvest till water hath been poured out upon them from the heavens, and hath not suffered a fowl of the heavens to rest upon them by day, or the beast of the field by night.

11 Q uando riferirono a Davide ciò che Ritspah, figlia di Aiah, concubina di Saul, aveva fatto,

And it is declared to David that which Rizpah daughter of Aiah, concubine of Saul, hath done,

12 D avide andò a prendere le ossa di Saul e quelle di Gionathan suo figlio dagli abitanti di Jabesh di Galaad, che le avevano portate via dalla piazza di Beth-Shan, dove i Filistei li avevano appesi quando i Filistei avevano sconfitto Saul sul Ghilboa.

and David goeth and taketh the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, from the possessors of Jabesh-Gilead, who had stolen them from the broad place of Beth-Shan, where the Philistines hanged them, in the day of the Philistines smiting Saul in Gilboa;

13 E gli riportò di là le ossa di Saul e quelle di Gionathan suo figlio e furono anche raccolte le ossa di quelli che erano stati impiccati.

and he bringeth up thence the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, and they gather the bones of those hanged,

14 L e ossa di Saul e di Gionathan suo figlio furono sepolte nel paese di Beniamino, a Tselah, nel sepolcro di Kish, padre di Saul. Cosí fecero tutto ciò che il re aveva ordinato. Dopo questo DIO diede ascolto alla preghiera fatta per il paese.

and bury the bones of Saul and of Jonathan his son in the land of Benjamin, in Zelah, in the burying-place of Kish his father, and do all that the king commanded, and God is entreated for the land afterwards.

15 I Filistei mossero di nuovo guerra ad Israele e Davide scese con i suoi servi a combattere contro i Filistei; e Davide si stancò;

And again have the Philistines war with Israel, and David goeth down, and his servants with him, and they fight with the Philistines; and David is weary,

16 I shbi-Benob, uno dei discendenti dei giganti che aveva una lancia del peso di trecento sicli di bronzo ed era cinto di una spada nuova, intendeva uccidere Davide;

and Ishbi-Benob, who among the children of the giant -- the weight of his spear three hundred weight of brass, and he is girded with a new one -- speaketh of smiting David,

17 m a Abishai, il figlio di Tseruiah venne in aiuto del re colpí il Filisteo e lo uccise. Allora gli uomini di Davide gli giurarono: «Tu non uscirai piú con noi a combattere e non spegnerai la lampada d'Israele».

and Abishai son of Zeruiah giveth help to him, and smiteth the Philistine, and putteth him to death; then swear the men of David to him, saying, `Thou dost not go out again with us to battle, nor quench the lamp of Israel.'

18 D opo questo ci fu un'altra battaglia con i Filistei, a Gob; allora Sibbekai l'Hushathita uccise Saf, uno dei discendenti dei giganti.

And it cometh to pass afterwards, that the battle is again in Gob with the Philistines, then hath Sibbechai the Hushathite smitten Saph, who among the children of the giant.

19 C i fu un'altra battaglia con i Filistei a Gob; ed Elhanan, figlio di Jaare-Oreghim di Betlemme uccise il fratello di Goliath di Gath; l'asta della sua lancia era come un subbio di tessitore.

And the battle is again in Gob with the Philistines, and Elhanan son of Jaare-Oregim, the Beth-Lehemite, smiteth Goliath the Gittite, and the wood of his spear like a beam of weavers.

20 C i fu un'altra battaglia a Gath, dove vi era un uomo di grande statura, che aveva sei dita per ogni mano e sei dita per ogni piede, in tutto ventiquattro dita anch'egli era un discendente dei giganti

And the battle is again in Gath, and there is a man of stature, and the fingers of his hands six, and the toes of his feet six, twenty and four in number, and he also hath been born to the giant,

21 E gli insultò Israele, ma Gionathan figlio di Scimeah, fratello di Davide, lo uccise.

and he reproacheth Israel, and smite him doth Jonathan son of Shimeah, brother of David;

22 Q uesti quattro erano discendenti dei giganti in Gath. Essi perirono per mano di Davide e per mano dei suoi servi.

these four have been born to the giant in Gath, and they fall by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
