1 A llora Giuseppe si gettò sulla faccia di suo padre e pianse su di lui, e lo baciò.

And Joseph falleth on his father's face, and weepeth over him, and kisseth him;

2 P oi Giuseppe ordinò ai medici che erano al suo servizio di imbalsamare suo padre; e i medici imbalsamarono Israele.

and Joseph commandeth his servants, the physicians, to embalm his father, and the physicians embalm Israel;

3 C i vollero quaranta giorni perché tale è il tempo necessario per l'imbalsamazione; e gli Egiziani lo piansero settanta giorni.

and they fulfil for him forty days, for so they fulfil the days of the embalmed, and the Egyptians weep for him seventy days.

4 Q uando i giorni del lutto fatto per lui furono passati, Giuseppe parlò alla casa del Faraone, dicendo: «Deh, se ho trovato grazia ai vostri occhi, riferite al Faraone queste parole:

And the days of his weeping pass away, and Joseph speaketh unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, `If, I pray you, I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,

5 M io padre mi ha fatto giurare e mi ha detto: "Ecco, io sto per morire; seppelliscimi nel sepolcro che ho scavato per me nel paese di Canaan". Ora dunque permetti che io salga a seppellire mio padre; poi tornerò».

My father caused me to swear, saying, Lo, I am dying; in my burying-place which I have prepared for myself in the land of Canaan, there dost thou bury me; and now, let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and return;'

6 I l Faraone rispose: «Sali e seppellisci tuo padre come egli ti ha fatto giurare».

and Pharaoh saith, `Go up and bury thy father, as he caused thee to swear.'

7 A llora Giuseppe salì a seppellire suo padre; e con lui salirono tutti i servi del Faraone, gli anziani della sua casa e tutti gli anziani del paese d'Egitto,

And Joseph goeth up to bury his father, and go up with him do all the servants of Pharaoh, elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,

8 e tutta la casa di Giuseppe, i suoi fratelli e la casa di suo padre. Nel paese di Goscen lasciarono soltanto i loro bambini, le loro greggi e i loro armenti.

and all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and the house of his father; only their infants, and their flock, and their herd, have they left in the land of Goshen;

9 C on lui salirono pure carri e cavalieri, così da formare un enorme corteo di gente.

and there go up with him both chariot and horsemen, and the camp is very great.

10 C ome furono giunti all'aia di Atad, che è oltre il Giordano, vi fecero grandi e solenni lamenti; e Giuseppe osservò per suo padre un lutto di sette giorni.

And they come unto the threshing-floor of Atad, which beyond the Jordan, and they lament there, a lamentation great and very grievous; and he maketh for his father a mourning seven days,

11 O r quando gli abitanti del paese, i Cananei, videro il lutto dell'aia di Atad, dissero: «Questo è un grave lutto per gli Egiziani!». Perciò quel luogo fu chiamato Abel-Mitsraim che è oltre il Giordano.

and the inhabitant of the land, the Canaanite, see the mourning in the threshing-floor of Atad, and say, `A grievous mourning this to the Egyptians;' therefore hath called its name `The mourning of the Egyptians,' which beyond the Jordan.

12 s uoi figli fecero per lui quello che egli aveva ordinato loro.

And his sons do to him so as he commanded them,

13 I suoi figli lo trasportarono nel paese di Canaan e lo seppellirono nella spelonca del campo di Makpelah, di fronte a Mamre, che Abrahamo aveva comperato col campo da Efron l'Hitteo, come sepolcro di sua proprietà.

and his sons bear him away to the land of Canaan, and bury him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a possession of a burying-place, from Ephron the Hittite, on the front of Mamre.

14 D opo aver sepolto suo padre, Giuseppe tornò in Egitto con i suoi fratelli e con tutti quelli che erano saliti con lui a seppellire suo padre.

And Joseph turneth back to Egypt, he and his brethren, and all who are going up with him to bury his father, after his burying his father.

15 I fratelli di Giuseppe, quando videro che il loro padre era morto, dissero: «Chissà se Giuseppe non nutra rancore verso di noi, e non ci renda tutto il male che gli abbiamo fatto?».

And the brethren of Joseph see that their father is dead, and say, `Peradventure Joseph doth hate us, and doth certainly return to us all the evil which we did with him.'

16 A llora mandarono a dire a Giuseppe: «Tuo padre prima di morire diede quest'ordine dicendo:

And they give a charge for Joseph, saying, `Thy father commanded before his death, saying,

17 " Così direte a Giuseppe: Deh, perdona ora ai tuoi fratelli il loro misfatto e il loro peccato, perché ti hanno fatto del male". Deh, perdona dunque ora il misfatto de servi del DIO di tuo padre!». Giuseppe, quando gli parlarono così, pianse.

Thus ye do say to Joseph, I pray thee, bear, I pray thee, with the transgression of thy brethren, and their sin, for they have done thee evil; and now, bear, we pray thee, with the transgression of the servants of the God of thy father;' and Joseph weepeth in their speaking unto him.

18 P oi vennero anche i suoi fratelli e si gettarono davanti a lui, e dissero: «Ecco, siamo tuoi servi».

And his brethren also go and fall before him, and say, `Lo, we to thee for servants.'

19 G iuseppe disse loro: «Non temete; sono io forse al posto di DIO?

And Joseph saith unto them, `Fear not, for I in the place of God?

20 V oi avete macchinato del male contro di me; ma DIO ha voluto farlo servire al bene, per compiere quello che oggi avviene: conservare in vita un popolo numeroso.

As for you, ye devised against me evil -- God devised it for good, in order to do as this day, to keep alive a numerous people;

21 O ra dunque non temete; io provvederò il nutrimento per voi e per i vostri figli». Così li confortò e parlò al cuore loro con dolcezza.

and now, fear not: I do nourish you and your infants;' and he comforteth them, and speaketh unto their heart.

22 C osì Giuseppe dimorò in Egitto, egli e la casa di suo padre, e visse centodieci anni.

And Joseph dwelleth in Egypt, he and the house of his father, and Joseph liveth a hundred and ten years,

23 G iuseppe vide figli di Efraim, fino alla terza generazione; anche i figli di Makir, figlio di Manasse, nacquero sulle sue ginocchia.

and Joseph looketh on Ephraim's sons of the third; sons also of Machir, son of Manasseh, have been born on the knees of Joseph.

24 P oi Giuseppe disse ai suoi fratelli: «Io sto per morire; ma DIO per certo vi visiterà e vi farà salire da questo paese nel paese che promise con giuramento ad Abrahamo, a Isacco e a Giacobbe».

And Joseph saith unto his brethren, `I am dying, and God doth certainly inspect you, and hath caused you to go up from this land, unto the land which He hath sworn to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.'

25 G iuseppe fece quindi giurare i figli d'Israele, dicendo: «DIO per certo vi visiterà; allora voi porterete via da qui le mie ossa».

And Joseph causeth the sons of Israel to swear, saying, `God doth certainly inspect you, and ye have brought up my bones from this.'

26 P oi Giuseppe morì, in età di centodieci anni; lo imbalsamarono e lo posero in una bara in Egitto.

And Joseph dieth, a son of an hundred and ten years, and they embalm him, and he is put into a coffin in Egypt.
