To the Overseer. -- A Psalm of David. Deliver me, O Jehovah, from an evil man, From one of violence Thou keepest me.

2 c he tramano malvagità nel loro cuore: essi si radunano continuamente per far guerra.

Who have devised evils in the heart, All the day they assemble wars.

3 A guzzano la loro lingua come il serpente e hanno un veleno di aspide sotto le loro labbra, (Sela)

They sharpened their tongue as a serpent, Poison of an adder under their lips. Selah.

4 P reservami, o Eterno, dalle mani dell'empio e proteggimi dall'uomo violento che cospirano per farmi cadere.

Preserve me, Jehovah, from the hands of the wicked, From one of violence Thou keepest me, Who have devised to overthrow my steps.

5 I superbi hanno nascosto per me un laccio e corde, mi hanno teso una rete ai margini del sentiero, hanno disposto tranelli per me. (Sela)

The proud hid a snare for me -- and cords, They spread a net by the side of the path, Snares they have set for me. Selah.

6 I o ho detto all'Eterno: «Tu sei il mio DIO, ascolta o Eterno, il grido delle mie suppliche.

I have said to Jehovah, `My God Thou, Hear, Jehovah, the voice of my supplications.'

7 O Eterno il Signore, tu sei la forza della mia salvezza, tu hai coperto il mio capo nel giorno della battaglia.

O Jehovah, my Lord, strength of my salvation, Thou hast covered my head in the day of armour.

8 O Eterno, non concedere agli empi quel che desiderano, non favorire i loro disegni, perché non si esaltino. (Sela)

Grant not, O Jehovah, the desires of the wicked, His wicked device bring not forth, They are high. Selah.

9 F a che la testa di quanti mi circondano sia coperta dalla perversità delle loro stesse labbra.

The chief of my surrounders, The perverseness of their lips covereth them.

10 C adano loro addosso carboni accesi; siano essi gettati nel fuoco, in fosse profonde, da cui non possano piú risorgere.

They cause to fall on themselves burning coals, Into fire He doth cast them, Into deep pits -- they arise not.

11 L 'uomo maldicente non sia reso stabile sulla terra; la sventura perseguiti l'uomo violento fino alla rovina».

A talkative man is not established in the earth, One of violence -- evil hunteth to overflowing.

12 I o so che l'Eterno difenderà la causa dell'afflitto e farà giustizia al povero.

I have known that Jehovah doth execute The judgment of the afflicted, The judgment of the needy.

13 C erto i giusti celebreranno il tuo nome, e gli uomini retti abiteranno alla tua presenza.

Only -- the righteous give thanks to Thy name, The upright do dwell with Thy presence!
