1 « E ora questo comandamento è per voi, o sacerdoti.

And now, to you this charge, O priests,

2 S e non date ascolto, se non vi mettete in cuore di dar gloria al mio nome» dice l'Eterno degli eserciti, «manderò su di voi la maledizione e maledirò le vostre benedizioni; sí, le ho già maledette, perché non vi mettete questo in cuore.

If ye hearken not, and if ye lay not to heart, To give honour to My name, said Jehovah of Hosts, I have sent against you the curse, And I have cursed your blessings, Yea, I have also cursed it, Because ye are not laying to heart.

3 E cco, io sgriderò il vostro seme, e spargerò escrementi sulle vostre facce, gli escrementi delle vostre feste solenni, e voi sarete portati via con questi.

Lo, I am pushing away before you the seed, And have scattered dung before your faces, Dung of your festivals, And it hath taken you away with it.

4 A llora riconoscerete che io vi ho mandato questo comandamento, affinché il mio patto con Levi possa continuare», dice l'Eterno degli eserciti.

And ye have known that I have sent unto you this charge, For My covenant being with Levi, Said Jehovah of Hosts.

5 « Il mio patto con lui era un patto di vita e di pace, che io gli concessi perché mi temesse, ed egli mi temette e fu terrorizzato davanti al mio nome.

My covenant hath been with him of life and of peace, And I make them to him a fear, and he doth fear Me, And because of My name he hath been affrighted.

6 L a legge di verità era nella sua bocca, e non si trovava alcuna perversità sulle sue labbra; camminava con me nella pace e nella rettitudine e ne ritrasse molti dall'iniquità.

The law of truth hath been in his mouth, And perverseness hath not been found in his lips, In peace and in uprightness he walked with Me, And many he brought back from iniquity.

7 P oiché le labbra del sacerdote dovrebbero custodire la conoscenza e dalla sua bocca uno dovrebbe cercare la legge, perché egli è il messaggero dell'Eterno degli eserciti.

For the lips of a priest preserve knowledge, And law they do seek from his mouth, For a messenger of Jehovah of Hosts he.

8 V oi invece vi siete allontanati dalla via, avete fatto inciampare molti nella legge, avete violato il patto di Levi», dice l'Eterno degli eserciti.

And ye, ye have turned from the way, Ye have caused many to stumble in the law, Ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, Said Jehovah of Hosts.

9 « Perciò anch'io vi ho reso spregevoli e abietti davanti a tutto il popolo, perché non avete osservato le mie vie, e avete usato parzialità nell'applicazione della legge».

And I also, I have made you despised and low before all the people, Because ye are not keeping My ways, And are accepting persons in the law.

10 N on abbiamo tutti uno stesso Padre? Non ci ha creati uno stesso Dio? Perché dunque agiamo con perfidia l'uno verso l'altro, profanando il patto dei nostri padri?

Have we not all one father? Hath not our God prepared us? Wherefore do we deal treacherously, Each against his brother, To pollute the covenant of our fathers?

11 G iuda ha agito con perfidia e un'abominazione è stata commessa in Israele e in Gerusalemme perché Giuda ha profanato il luogo santo dell'Eterno, che egli ama, e ha sposato la figlia di un dio straniero.

Dealt treacherously hath Judah, And abomination hath been done in Israel, and in Jerusalem, For polluted hath Judah the holy thing of Jehovah, That He hath loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.

12 L 'Eterno sterminerà dalle tende di Giacobbe colui che fa questo, chi veglia, chi risponde e chi offre un'oblazione all'Eterno degli eserciti.

Cut off doth Jehovah the man who doth it, Tempter and tempted -- from the tents of Jacob, Even he who is bringing nigh a present to Jehovah of Hosts.

13 V oi fate anche quest'altra cosa: coprite l'altare, dell'Eterno di lacrime, di pianto e di lamenti, perché non riguarda piú con favore la vostra offerta e non la riceve piú con piacere dalle vostre mani.

And this a second time ye do, Covering with tears the altar of Jehovah, With weeping and groaning, Because there is no more turning unto the present, Or receiving of a pleasing thing from your hand.

14 E ppure dite: «Per quale ragione?». Poiché l'Eterno è testimone fra te e la moglie della tua giovinezza, verso la quale ti sei comportato perfidamente, benché ella sia la tua compagna e la moglie del tuo patto.

And ye have said, `Wherefore?' Because Jehovah hath testified between thee And the wife of thy youth, That thou hast dealt treacherously against her, And she thy companion, and thy covenant-wife.

15 M a non li fece Dio uno e nondimeno lo spirito rimase in lui? E perché mai uno? Poiché egli cercava una discendenza da DIO. Badate dunque al vostro spirito e nessuno si comporti perfidamente verso la moglie della sua giovinezza.

And He did not make one, And He hath the remnant of the Spirit. And what the one! He is seeking a godly seed. And ye have been watchful over your spirit, And with the wife of thy youth, None doth deal treacherously.

16 P oiché l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele, dice che egli odia il divorzio e chi copre di violenza la sua veste», dice l'Eterno degli eserciti. Badate dunque al vostro spirito e non comportatevi perfidamente.

For hate sending away, said Jehovah, God of Israel, And He hath covered violence with his clothing, said Jehovah of Hosts, And ye have been watchful over your spirit, And ye do not deal treacherously.

17 V oi stancate l'Eterno con le vostre parole, eppure dite: «In che cosa lo abbiamo stancato?». Perché voi dite: «Chiunque fa il male è gradito all'Eterno, che si compiace in lui», oppure: «Dov'è il DIO della giustizia?».

Ye have wearied Jehovah with your words, And ye have said: `In what have we wearied Him?' In your saying: `Every evil-doer good in the eyes of Jehovah, And in them He is delighting,' Or, `Where the God of judgment?'
