To the Overseer, on `The Hind of the Morning.' -- A Psalm of David. My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me? Far from my salvation, The words of my roaring?

2 O DIO mio, io grido di giorno, ma tu non rispondi, e anche di notte non sto in silenzio.

My God, I call by day, and Thou answerest not, And by night, and there is no silence to me.

3 E ppure tu sei il Santo, che dimori nelle lodi d'Israele.

And Thou holy, Sitting -- the Praise of Israel.

4 I nostri padri hanno confidato in te hanno confidato in te e tu li hai liberati.

In Thee did our fathers trust -- they trusted, And Thou dost deliver them.

5 G ridarono a te e furono liberati, confidarono in te e non furono delusi.

Unto Thee they cried, and were delivered, In Thee they trusted, and were not ashamed.

6 M a io sono un verme e non un uomo; il vituperio degli uomini e disprezzato dal popolo.

And I a worm, and no man, A reproach of man, and despised of the people.

7 T utti quelli che mi vedono si fanno beffe di me, allungano il labbro e scuotono il capo,

All beholding me do mock at me, They make free with the lip -- shake the head,

8 d icendo: «Egli si è affidato all'Eterno; lo liberi dunque, lo soccorra, poiché lo gradisce».

`Roll unto Jehovah, He doth deliver him, He doth deliver him, for he delighted in him.'

9 C erto. tu sei colui che mi hai tratto fuori dal grembo materno mi hai fatto avere fiducia in te da quando riposavo sulle mammelle di mia madre.

For thou He bringing me forth from the womb, Causing me to trust, On the breasts of my mother.

10 I o fui abbandonato a te fin dalla mia nascita; tu sei il mio Dio fin dal grembo di mia madre.

On Thee I have been cast from the womb, From the belly of my mother Thou my God.

11 N on allontanarti da me perché l'angoscia è vicina, e non c'è nessuno che mi aiuti.

Be not far from me, For adversity is near, for there is no helper.

12 G randi tori mi hanno circondato, potenti tori di Bashan mi hanno attorniato;

Many bulls have surrounded me, Mighty ones of Bashan have compassed me,

13 e ssi aprono la loro gola contro di me come un leone rapace e ruggente.

They have opened against me their mouth, A lion tearing and roaring.

14 S ono versato come acqua, e tutte le mie ossa sono slogate il mio cuore è come cera che si scioglie in mezzo alle mie viscere.

As waters I have been poured out, And separated themselves have all my bones, My heart hath been like wax, It is melted in the midst of my bowels.

15 I l mio vigore si è inaridito come un coccio d'argilla e la mia lingua è attaccata al mio palato; tu mi hai posto nella polvere della morte.

Dried up as an earthen vessel is my power, And my tongue is cleaving to my jaws.

16 P oiché cani mi hanno circondato; uno stuolo di malfattori mi ha attorniato; mi hanno forato le mani e i piedi.

And to the dust of death thou appointest me, For surrounded me have dogs, A company of evil doers have compassed me, Piercing my hands and my feet.

17 p osso contare tutte le mie ossa; essi mi guardano e mi osservano.

I count all my bones -- they look expectingly, They look upon me,

18 S partiscono fra loro le mie vesti e tirano a sorte la mia tunica.

They apportion my garments to themselves, And for my clothing they cause a lot to fall.

19 M a tu, o Eterno, non allontanarti; tu che sei la mia forza, affrettati a soccorrermi.

And Thou, O Jehovah, be not far off, O my strength, to help me haste.

20 L ibera la mia vita dalla spada, l'unica mia vita dalla zampa del cane.

Deliver from the sword my soul, From the paw of a dog mine only one.

21 S alvami dalla gola del leone e dalle corna dei bufali. Tu mi hai risposto.

Save me from the mouth of a lion: -- And -- from the horns of the high places Thou hast answered me!

22 a nnunzierò il tuo nome ai miei fratelli; ti loderò in mezzo all'assemblea.

I declare Thy name to my brethren, In the midst of the assembly I praise Thee.

23 O voi che temete l'Eterno, lodatelo; e voi tutti, discendenti di Giacobbe glorificatelo; e voi tutti o stirpe d'Israele, temetelo.

Ye who fear Jehovah, praise ye Him, All the seed of Jacob, honour ye Him, And be afraid of Him, all ye seed of Israel.

24 P erché egli non ha disprezzato né sdegnato l'afflizione dell'afflitto, e non gli ha nascosto la sua faccia; ma quando ha gridato a lui, lo ha esaudito.

For He hath not despised, nor abominated, The affliction of the afflicted, Nor hath He hidden His face from him, And in his crying unto Him He heareth.

25 I l motivo della mia lode nella grande assemblea sei tu; io adempirò i miei voti in presenza di quelli che ti temono.

Of Thee my praise in the great assembly. My vows I complete before His fearers.

26 I bisognosi mangeranno e saranno saziati; quelli che cercano l'Eterno lo loderanno; il vostro cuore vivrà in eterno.

The humble do eat and are satisfied, Praise Jehovah do those seeking Him, Your heart doth live for ever.

27 T utte le estremità della terra si ricorderanno dell'Eterno e si convertiranno a lui, e tutte le famiglie delle nazioni adoreranno davanti a te.

Remember and return unto Jehovah, Do all ends of the earth, And before Thee bow themselves, Do all families of the nations,

28 P oiché all'Eterno appartiene il regno, ed egli signoreggia sulle nazioni.

For to Jehovah the kingdom, And He is ruling among nations.

29 T utti i ricchi della terra mangeranno e adoreranno, tutti quelli che scendono nella polvere e che non possono mantenersi in vita s'inchineranno davanti a lui.

And the fat ones of earth have eaten, And they bow themselves, Before Him bow do all going down to dust, And he hath not revived his soul.

30 U na posterità lo servirà, si parlerà del Signore alla futura generazione.

A seed doth serve Him, It is declared of the Lord to the generation.

31 E ssi verranno e proclameranno la sua giustizia a un popolo che deve ancora nascere, e che egli stesso ha fatto.

They come and declare His righteousness, To a people that is borne, that He hath made!
