1 T u sei giusto, o Eterno; come posso discutere con te? Tuttavia parlerò con te intorno ai tuoi giudizi. Perché la via degli empi prospera? Perché vivono tranquilli quelli che agiscono perfidamente?

Righteous Thou, O Jehovah, When I plead towards thee, Only, judgments do I speak with Thee, Wherefore did the way of the wicked prosper? At rest have been all treacherous dealers.

2 L i hai piantati e hanno pure messo radice; crescono e addirittura portano frutto. Tu sei vicino alla loro bocca, ma lontano dal loro cuore.

Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root, They go on, yea, they have made fruit, Near Thou in their mouth, And far off from their reins.

3 M a tu, o Eterno, mi conosci, mi vedi ed esamini il mio cuore, nei tuoi confronti. Trascinali al macello come pecore e appartali per il giorno del massacro!

And Thou, O Jehovah, Thou hast known me, Thou seest me, and hast tried my heart with Thee, Draw them away as sheep to slaughter, And separate them for a day of slaughter.

4 F ino a quando farà cordoglio il paese e seccherà l'erba di ogni campo? Per la malvagità dei suoi abitanti, le bestie e gli uccelli sono sterminati, perché essi dicono: «Egli non vedrà la nostra fine».

Till when doth the earth mourn, And the herb of the whole field wither? For the wickedness of those dwelling in it, Consumed have been beast and fowl, Because they said, `He doth not see our latter end.'

5 S e tu corri con i pedoni e ti stancano, come potrai gareggiare con i cavalli? Se ti senti sicuro solamente in un paese pacifico, cosa farai quando il Giordano si gonfierà?

For -- with footmen thou hast run, And they weary thee, And how dost thou fret thyself with horses! Even in the land of peace, thou art confident -- And how dost thou in the rising of Jordan!

6 P oiché perfino i tuoi fratelli e la casa di tuo padre hanno agito perfidamente con te; anch'essi ti gridano dietro a piena voce. Non fidarti di loro quando ti diranno buone parole.

For even thy brethren and the house of thy father, Even they dealt treacherously against thee, Even they -- they called after thee fully, Trust not in them, when they speak to thee good things.

7 H o abbandonato la mia casa, ho rigettato la mia eredità; ho dato ciò che ho di piú caro nelle mani dei suoi nemici.

I have forsaken My house, I have left Mine inheritance, I have given the beloved of My soul Into the hand of her enemies.

8 L a mia eredità è divenuta per me come un leone nella foresta; ha lanciato il suo grido contro di me; per questo l'ho odiata.

Mine inheritance hath been to Me as a lion in a forest, She gave forth against Me with her voice, Therefore I have hated her.

9 L a mia eredità è stata per me come l'uccello rapace screziato; gli uccelli rapaci si lanciano contro di lei da ogni parte. Andate, radunate tutte le bestie della campagna, fatele venire a divorare!

A speckled fowl Mine inheritance to Me? Is the fowl round about against her? Come, assemble, every beast of the field, Come ye for food.

10 M olti pastori hanno devastato la mia vigna, hanno calpestato la mia porzione, hanno ridotto la mia deliziosa porzione in un deserto desolato.

Many shepherds did destroy My vineyard, They have trodden down My portion, They have made My desirable portion Become a wilderness -- a desolation.

11 L 'hanno ridotta una desolazione, desolata, fa' cordoglio davanti a me; tutto il paese è desolato, ma nessuno se ne dà pensiero.

He hath made it become a desolation, The desolation hath mourned unto Me, Desolated hath been all the land, But there is no one laying it to heart.

12 S u tutte le alture del deserto sono giunti i devastatori e la spada dell'Eterno divora il paese da un'estremità all'altra; nessuna carne ha pace.

On all high places in the plain have spoilers come in, For the sword of Jehovah is consuming, From the end of the land even unto the end of the land, There is no peace to any flesh.

13 H anno seminato grano, ma raccolgono spine; si sono affaticati, ma senza alcun vantaggio. Si vergogneranno del vostro raccolto, a motivo dell'ardente ira dell'Eterno!

They sowed wheat, and have thorns reaped, They have become sick -- they profit not, And they have been ashamed of your increases, Because of the fierceness of the anger of Jehovah.

14 C osí dice l'Eterno contro tutti i miei malvagi vicini, che toccano l'eredità che ho dato in possesso al mio popolo Israele: «Ecco, li sradicherò dal loro paese e sradicherò la casa di Giuda di mezzo a loro.

Thus said Jehovah concerning all my evil neighbours, who are striking against the inheritance that I caused my people -- Israel -- to inherit: `Lo, I am plucking them from off their ground, And the house of Judah I pluck out of their midst.

15 M a avverrà che, dopo averli sradicati, ritornerò ad aver compassione di loro e li ricondurrò a ciascuno nella sua eredità, ciascuno nel suo paese.

And it hath been, after My plucking them out, I turn back, and have pitied them, And I have brought them back, Each to his inheritance, and each to his land.

16 E avverrà che se impareranno accuratamente le vie del mio popolo e a giurare per il mio nome, dicendo: "L'Eterno vive", come hanno insegnato al mio popolo a giurare per Baal, saranno saldamente stabiliti in mezzo al mio popolo,

And it hath come to pass, If they learn well the ways of My people, To swear by My name, `Jehovah liveth,' As they taught My people to swear by Baal, Then they have been built up in the midst of My people.

17 M a se non ascolteranno, io sradicherò interamente quella nazione e la distruggerò», dice l'Eterno.

And if they do not hearken, Then I have plucked up that nation, Plucking up and destroying, An affirmation of Jehovah!'
