1 O r Naomi aveva un parente di suo marito, uomo potente e ricco della famiglia di Elimelek, che si chiamava Boaz.

And Naomi hath an acquaintance of her husband's, a man mighty in wealth, of the family of Elimelech, and his name Boaz.

2 R uth, la Moabita, disse a Naomi: «Lasciami andare nei campi a spigolare dietro a colui agli occhi del quale troverò grazia». Ella le rispose: «Va

And Ruth the Moabitess saith unto Naomi, `Let me go, I pray thee, into the field, and I gather among the ears of corn after him in whose eyes I find grace;' and she saith to her, `Go, my daughter.'

3 C osì Ruth andò e si mise a spigolare in un campo dietro ai mietitori, e le capitò per caso di trovarsi nella parte del campo appartenente a Boaz, che era della famiglia di Elimelek.

And she goeth and cometh and gathereth in a field after the reapers, and her chance happeneth -- the portion of the field is Boaz's who of the family of Elimelech.

4 O r ecco che Boaz venne da Betlemme e disse ai mietitori: «L'Eterno sia con voi!». Essi gli risposero: «L'Eterno ti benedica!».

And lo, Boaz hath come from Beth-Lehem, and saith to the reapers, `Jehovah with you;' and they say to him, `Jehovah doth bless thee.'

5 P oi Boaz disse al suo servo incaricato di sorvegliare i mietitori: «Di chi è questa fanciulla?».

And Boaz saith to his young man who is set over the reapers, `Whose this young person?'

6 I l servo incaricato di sorvegliare i mietitori rispose: «E una fanciulla moabita che è tornata con Naomi dal paese di Moab.

And the young man who is set over the reapers answereth and saith, `A young woman -- Moabitess -- she, who came back with Naomi from the fields of Moab,

7 E lla ci ha detto: "Vi prego, lasciatemi spigolare e raccogliere le spighe tra i covoni dietro ai mietitori". Così essa è venuta ed è rimasta da questa mattina fino ad ora; si è riposata in casa solo un momento».

and she saith, Let me glean, I pray thee -- and I have gathered among the sheaves after the reapers; and she cometh and remaineth since the morning and till now; she sat in the house a little.

8 A llora Boaz disse a Ruth: «Ascolta figlia mia, non andare a spigolare in un altro campo, non allontanarti da qui, ma rimani con le mie serve.

And Boaz saith unto Ruth, `Hast thou not heard, my daughter? go not to glean in another field, and also, pass not over from this, and thus thou dost cleave to my young women:

9 T ieni gli occhi sul campo che mietono e va' dietro a loro. Non ho forse ordinato ai miei servi di non molestarti? Quando hai sete va' dove sono i vasi, a bere l'acqua attinta dai servi».

thine eyes on the field which they reap, and thou hast gone after them; have not I charged the young men not to touch thee? when thou art athirst then thou hast gone unto the vessels, and hast drunk from that which the young men draw.'

10 A llora Ruth si gettò giù, prostrandosi con la faccia a terra e gli disse: «Per quale ragione ho io trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi al punto che tu presti attenzione a me che sono una straniera?».

And she falleth on her face, and boweth herself to the earth, and saith unto him, `Wherefore have I found grace in thine eyes, to discern me, and I a stranger?'

11 B oaz le rispose, dicendo: «Mi è stato riferito tutto ciò che hai fatto per tua suocera dopo la morte di tuo marito, e come hai lasciato tuo padre, tua madre e il tuo paese natio, per venire a vivere con un popolo che prima non conoscevi.

And Boaz answereth and saith to her, `It hath thoroughly been declared to me all that thou hast done with thy mother-in-law, after the death of thy husband, and thou dost leave thy father, and thy mother, and the land of thy birth, and dost come in unto a people which thou hast not known heretofore.

12 L 'Eterno ti ripaghi di quanto hai fatto, e la tua ricompensa sia piena da parte dell'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele, sotto le cui ali sei venuta a rifugiarti!».

Jehovah doth recompense thy work, and thy reward is complete from Jehovah, God of Israel, under whose wings thou hast come to take refuge.'

13 E lla gli disse: «Possa io trovare grazia ai tuoi occhi, o mio signore, poiché tu mi hai consolata e hai parlato al cuore della tua serva, sebbene io non sia neppure come una delle tue serve».

And she saith, `Let me find grace in thine eyes, my lord, because thou hast comforted me, and because thou hast spoken unto the heart of thy maid-servant, and I -- I am not as one of thy maid-servants.'

14 A l momento del pasto, Boaz le disse: «Vieni qui mangia il pane e intingi il tuo boccone nell'aceto». Così ella si pose a sedere accanto ai mietitori. Boaz le porse del grano arrostito, ed ella mangiò a sazietà e mise da parte gli avanzi.

And Boaz saith to her, `At meal-time come nigh hither, and thou hast eaten of the bread, and dipped thy morsel in the vinegar.' And she sitteth at the side of the reapers, and he reacheth to her roasted corn, and she eateth, and is satisfied, and leaveth.

15 P oi si levò per tornare a spigolare, e Boaz diede quest'ordine ai suoi servi, dicendo: «Lasciatela spigolare anche fra i covoni e non rimproveratela;

And she riseth to glean, and Boaz chargeth his young men, saying, `Even between the sheaves she doth glean, and ye do not cause her to blush;

16 i noltre lasciate cadere per lei delle spighe dai manipoli e abbandonatele, perché essa le raccolga, e non sgridatela».

and also ye do surely cast to her of the handfuls -- and have left, and she hath gleaned, and ye do not push against her.'

17 C osì ella spigolò nel campo fino alla sera, poi battè quello che aveva raccolto, e ne venne fuori circa un'efa di orzo.

And she gleaneth in the field till the evening, and beateth out that which she hath gleaned, and it is about an ephah of barley;

18 S e lo caricò addosso. entrò in città e sua suocera vide ciò che essa aveva spigolato. Ruth tirò quindi fuori ciò che le era rimasto del cibo dopo essersi saziata e glielo diede.

and she taketh up, and goeth into the city, and her mother-in-law seeth that which she hath gleaned, and she bringeth out and giveth to her that which she left from her satiety.

19 L a suocera le chiese: «Dove hai spigolato oggi? Dove hai lavorato? Benedetto colui che ti ha prestato attenzione!». Così Ruth riferì alla suocera presso chi aveva lavorato e aggiunse: «L'uomo presso il quale ho lavorato oggi si chiama Boaz».

And her mother-in-law saith to her, `Where hast thou gleaned to-day? and where hast thou wrought? may he who is discerning thee be blessed.' And she declareth to her mother-in-law with whom she hath wrought, and saith, `The name of the man with whom I have wrought to-day Boaz.'

20 N aomi disse alla nuora: «Sia egli benedetto dall'Eterno, che non ha ritirato la sua benignità ai vivi e ai morti». E aggiunse: «Quest'uomo è nostro parente stretto, uno che ha il diritto di riscattarci»

And Naomi saith to her daughter-in-law, `Blessed he of Jehovah who hath not forsaken His kindness with the living and with the dead;' and Naomi saith to her, `The man is a relation of ours; he of our redeemers.'

21 A llora Ruth, la Moabita, disse: «Mi ha anche detto: "Rimani con i miei servi, finche abbiano finito tutta la mia mietitura"».

And Ruth the Moabitess saith, `Also he surely said unto me, Near the young people whom I have thou dost cleave till they have completed the whole of the harvest which I have.'

22 N aomi disse a Ruth sua nuora: «E' bene, figlia mia, che tu vada con le sue serve e non ti trovino in un altro campo».

And Naomi saith unto Ruth her daughter-in-law, `Good, my daughter, that thou goest out with his young women, and they come not against thee in another field.'

23 E lla rimase perciò a spigolare con le serve di Boaz sino alla fine della mietitura dell'orzo e del frumento. Ed abitava con sua suocera.

And she cleaveth to the young women of Boaz to glean, till the completion of the barley-harvest, and of the wheat-harvest, and she dwelleth with her mother-in-law.
