1 O r Boaz salì alla porta della città e là si pose a sedere. Ed ecco passare colui che aveva il diritto di riscatto e di cui Boaz aveva parlato. Boaz gli disse: «O tu, tal dei tali, avvicinati e siediti qui». Quello si avvicinò e si mise a sedere.

And Boaz hath gone up to the gate, and sitteth there, and lo, the redeemer is passing by of whom Boaz had spoken, and he saith, `Turn aside, sit down here, such a one, such a one;' and he turneth aside and sitteth down.

2 B oaz allora prese dieci uomini fra gli anziani della città e disse loro: «Sedete qui». Essi si sedettero.

And he taketh ten men of the elders of the city, and saith, `Sit down here;' and they sit down.

3 P oi Boaz disse a colui che aveva il diritto di riscatto: «Naomi, che è tornata dal paese di Moab, ha venduto la parte di terra che apparteneva al nostro fratello Elimelek.

And he saith to the redeemer, `A portion of the field which to our brother, to Elimelech, hath Naomi sold, who hath come back from the fields of Moab;

4 H o pensato di informarti e di dirti: "Compralo alla presenza degli abitanti del luogo e degli anziani del mio popolo. Se vuoi riscattarlo, riscattalo; ma se non intendi riscattarlo dimmelo, affinche io lo sappia; poiché nessuno fuori di te ha il diritto di riscatto, e dopo di te vengo io"». Quegli rispose: «Farò valere il mio diritto».

and I said, I uncover thine ear, saying, Buy before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people; if thou dost redeem -- redeem, and if none doth redeem -- declare to me, and I know, for there is none save thee to redeem, and I after thee.' And he saith, I redeem.'

5 A llora Boaz disse: «Il giorno che acquisterai il campo dalla mano di Naomi, tu lo acquisterai anche da Ruth, la Moabita, moglie del defunto, per far rivivere il nome del defunto nella sua eredità»

And Boaz saith, `In the day of thy buying the field from the hand of Naomi, then from Ruth the Moabitess, wife of the dead, thou hast bought, to raise up the name of the dead over his inheritance.'

6 C olui che aveva il diritto di riscatto rispose: «Io non posso riscattarlo per me perché rovinerei la mia propria eredità riscatta tu ciò che avrei dovuto riscattare io, perché io non lo posso riscattare».

And the redeemer saith, `I am not able to redeem for myself, lest I destroy mine inheritance; redeem for thyself -- thou -- my right of redemption, for I am not able to redeem.'

7 O r questa era l'usanza dei tempi andati in Israele, in merito al diritto di riscatto e al cambio di proprietà: uno si toglieva il sandalo e lo dava all'altro questo era il modo di attestare in Israele.

And this formerly in Israel for redemption and for changing, to establish anything: a man hath drawn off his sandal, and given to his neighbour, and this the testimony in Israel.

8 C osì chi aveva il diritto di riscatto disse a Boaz: «Compralo tu stesso», e si tolse il sandalo.

And the redeemer saith to Boaz, `Buy for thyself,' and draweth off his sandal.

9 A llora Boaz disse agli anziani e a tutto il popolo: «Voi siete oggi testimoni che io ho acquistato dalle mani di Naomi tutto ciò che apparteneva a Elimelek, a Kilion e a Mahlon.

And Boaz saith to the elders, and all the people, `Witnesses ye to-day that I have bought all that to Elimelech, and all that to Chilion and Mahlon, from the hand of Naomi;

10 I noltre mi sono acquistato per moglie Ruth, la Moabita, moglie di Mahlon, per far rivivere il nome del defunto nella sua eredità, perché il nome del defunto non si estingua tra i suoi fratelli e alla porta della sua città. Voi oggi ne siete testimoni».

and also Ruth the Moabitess, wife of Mahlon, I have bought to myself for a wife, to raise up the name of the dead over his inheritance; and the name of the dead is not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place; witnesses ye to-day.'

11 A llora tutto il popolo che si trovava alla porta e gli anziani risposero: «Ne siamo testimoni. L'Eterno renda la donna che entra in casa tua come Rachele e come Lea, le due donne che edificarono la casa d'Israele. Possa tu ottenere potenza in Efrathah e divenire famoso in Betlemme.

And all the people who in the gate say -- also the elders -- `Witnesses! Jehovah make the woman who is coming in unto thy house as Rachel and as Leah, both of whom built the house of Israel; and do thou virtuously in Ephrathah, and proclaim the Name in Beth-Lehem;

12 S ia la tua casa come la casa di Perets, che Tamar partorì a Giuda, a motivo della discendenza che l'Eterno ti darà da questa giovane».

and let thy house be as the house of Pharez (whom Tamar bare to Judah), of the seed which Jehovah doth give to thee of this young woman.'

13 C osì Boaz prese Ruth, che divenne sua moglie. Egli entrò da lei e l'Eterno le concesse di concepire, ed ella partorì un figlio.

And Boaz taketh Ruth, and she becometh his wife, and he goeth in unto her, and Jehovah giveth to her conception, and she beareth a son.

14 A llora le donne dissero a Naomi: «Benedetto l'Eterno, che oggi non ti ha lasciato senza un redentore. Possa il suo nome divenire famoso in Israele!

And the women say unto Naomi, `Blessed Jehovah who hath not let a redeemer cease to thee to-day, and his name is proclaimed in Israel,

15 P ossa egli ristabilire la tua vita ed essere il sostegno della tua vecchiaia, perché lo ha partorito la tua nuora che ti ama e che vale per te più di sette figli».

and he hath been to thee for a restorer of life, and for a nourisher of thine old age, for thy daughter-in-law who hath loved thee -- who is better to thee than seven sons -- hath borne him.'

16 N aomi quindi prese il bambino, se lo pose in grembo e gli fece da nutrice.

And Naomi taketh the lad, and layeth him in her bosom, and is to him for a nurse;

17 L e vicine gli diedero un nome e dicevano: «E' nato un figlio a Naomi!». Lo chiamarono Obed. Egli fu padre d'Isai, padre di Davide.

and the neighbouring women give to him a name, saying, `There hath been a son born to Naomi,' and they call his name Obed; he father of Jesse, father of David.

18 E cco la posterità di Perets: generò Hetsron;

And these are genealogies of Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron,

19 H etsron generò Ram, Ram generò Amminadab;

and Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminidab,

20 A mminadab generò Nahshon, Nahshon generò Salmon;

and Amminidab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon,

21 S almon generò Boaz; Boaz generò Obed;

and Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed,

22 O bed generò Isai e Isai generò Davide.

and Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.
