1 C hiedete all'Eterno la pioggia nel tempo dell'ultima pioggia! L'Eterno produrrà lampi seguiti da tuoni e pioggia, darà loro piogge abbondanti, ad ognuno erba nel proprio campo.

They asked of Jehovah rain in a time of latter rain, Jehovah is making lightnings, And rain showers He doth give to them. To each -- the herb in the field.

2 P oiché gli idoli domestici dicono cose vane, gli indovini osservano falsità e raccontano sogni bugiardi, danno un vano conforto; per questo vanno errando come pecore, sono afflitti, perché senza pastore

Because the teraphim did speak iniquity, And the diviners have seen a falsehood, And dreams of the vanity they speak, vanity they give comfort, Therefore they have journeyed as a flock, They are afflicted, for there is no shepherd.

3 « La mia ira divampa contro i pastori e punirò i capri, perché l'Eterno degli eserciti visiterà il suo gregge, la casa di Giuda, e ne farà come il suo maestoso cavallo in battaglia.

Against the shepherds did Mine anger burn, And against the he-goats I lay a charge, For inspected hath Jehovah of Hosts His flock, the house of Judah, And set them as His beauteous horse in battle.

4 D a lui uscirà la testata d'angolo, da lui il piuolo, da lui l'arco di battaglia, da lui uscirà ogni dominatore, tutti insieme.

From him a corner-stone, From him a nail, from him a battle-bow, From him goeth forth every exactor together.

5 E saranno come prodi che calpesteranno i loro nemici nel fango delle strade in battaglia. Combatteranno, perché l'Eterno è con loro, saranno confusi quelli che montano i cavalli.

And they have been as heroes, Treading in mire of out-places in battle, And they have fought, for Jehovah with them, And have put to shame riders of horses.

6 I o fortificherò la casa di Giuda e salverò la casa di Giuseppe, e li ricondurrò perché ho compassione di loro; saranno come se non li avessi mai scacciati, perché io sono l'Eterno, il loro DIO, e li esaudirò.

And I have made mighty the house of Judah, And the house of Joseph I do save, And I have caused them to dwell, for I have loved them, And they have been as I had not cast them off, For I Jehovah their God, And I answer them.

7 Q uelli di Efraim saranno come un prode e il loro cuore si rallegrerà come inebriato dal vino. Sí, i loro figli lo vedranno e si rallegreranno, il loro cuore esulterà nell'Eterno.

And Ephraim hath been as a hero, And rejoiced hath their heart as wine, And their sons see, and they have rejoiced, Rejoice doth their heart in Jehovah.

8 F ischierò loro per riunirli, perché io li riscatterò; ed essi moltiplicheranno come già moltiplicarono.

I hist for them, and I gather them, For I have redeemed them, And they have multiplied as they did multiply.

9 L i disseminerò fra i popoli e nei paesi lontani si ricorderanno di me; vivranno assieme ai loro figli e torneranno.

And I sow them among peoples, And in far-off places they remember Me, And they have lived with their sons, And they have turned back.

10 L i farò ritornare dal paese d'Egitto e li raccoglierò dall'Assiria per riportarli nel paese di Galaad e al Libano, ma non ci sarà spazio sufficiente per loro.

And I have brought them back from the land of Egypt, And from Asshur I do gather them, And unto the land of Gilead and Lebanon I do bring them in, And there is not found for them.

11 E gli passerà per il mare dell'avversità, ma percuoterà le onde del mare e tutte le profondità del fiume saranno prosciugate. L'orgoglio dell'Assiria sarà abbattuto e lo scettro d'Egitto sarà rimosso.

And He hath passed over through the sea, And hath pressed and smitten billows in the sea, And dried up have been all depths of a flood, And brought down hath been the excellency of Asshur, And the rod of Egypt doth turn aside.

12 L i renderò forti nell'Eterno ed essi cammineranno nel suo nome», dice l'Eterno.

And I have made them mighty in Jehovah, And in His name they walk up and down, An affirmation of Jehovah!
