1 Q uesti sono i territori che i figli d'Israele ricevettero in eredità nel paese di Canaan, e che il sacerdote Eleazar, Giosuè figlio di Nun e i capifamiglia delle tribú dei figli d'Israele distribuirono loro in eredità.

And these they the sons of Israel who inherited in the land of Canaan, whom Eleazar the priest, and Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the sons of Israel, caused to inherit;

2 L a loro eredità fu decisa a sorte, come l'Eterno aveva comandato per mezzo di Mosè, alle nove tribú e alla mezza tribú,

by lot their inheritance, as Jehovah commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine of the tribes, and the half of the tribe;

3 p erché alle altre due tribú e alla mezza tribú, Mosè aveva dato la loro eredità di là dal Giordano; ma non aveva dato alcuna eredità in mezzo a loro ai Leviti,

for Moses hath given the inheritance of two of the tribes, and of half of the tribe, beyond the Jordan, and to the Levites he hath not given an inheritance in their midst;

4 p erché i figli di Giuseppe formavano due tribú: Manasse ed Efraim; ai Leviti invece non fu data alcuna parte nel paese, ma soltanto delle città per abitarvi, con i loro terreni da pascolo per il loro bestiame e i loro beni.

for the sons of Joseph hath been two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim, and they have not given a portion to the Levites in the land, except cities to dwell in, and their suburbs for their cattle, and for their possessions;

5 I figli d'Israele fecero come l'Eterno aveva comandato a Mosè e spartirono il paese.

as Jehovah commanded Moses, so have the sons of Israel done, and they apportion the land.

6 A llora i figli di Giuda si presentarono a Giosuè a Ghilgal; e Caleb, figlio di Jefunneh, il Kenizeo, gli disse: «Tu sai ciò che l'Eterno disse a Mosè, uomo di DIO, riguardo a me e a te a Kadesh-Barnea.

And the sons of Judah come nigh unto Joshua in Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenezzite saith unto him, `Thou hast known the word that Jehovah hath spoken unto Moses the man of God, concerning me and concerning thee in Kadesh-Barnea:

7 I o avevo quarant'anni quando Mosè, servo dell'Eterno, mi mandò da Kadesh-Barnea ad esplorare il paese; e io gli feci un resoconto come l'avevo in cuore.

a son of forty years I in Moses, servant of Jehovah, sending me from Kadesh-Barnea, to spy the land, and I bring him back word as with my heart;

8 M entre i miei fratelli che erano saliti con me scoraggiarono il popolo, io seguii pienamente l'Eterno, il mio DIO.

and my brethren who have gone up with me have caused the heart of the people to melt, and I have been fully after Jehovah my God;

9 I n quel giorno Mosè fece questo giuramento: "La terra che il tuo piede ha calcato sarà eredità tua e dei tuoi figli per sempre, perché hai pienamente seguito l'Eterno il mio DIO".

and Moses sweareth in that day, saying, If not -- the land on which thy foot hath trodden, to thee it is for inheritance, and to thy sons -- to the age, for thou hast been fully after Jehovah my God.

10 E d ora ecco, l'Eterno mi ha conservato in vita, come aveva detto, questi quarantacinque anni da quando l'Eterno disse questa parola a Mosè, mentre Israele vagava nel deserto; ed ecco, oggi ho ottantacinque anni.

`And, now, lo, Jehovah hath kept me alive, as He hath spoken, these forty and five years, since Jehovah spake this word unto Moses, when Israel went in the wilderness; and now, lo, I to-day a son of five and eighty years;

11 M a oggi sono ancora forte come lo ero il giorno in cui Mosè mi mandò; lo stesso vigore che avevo allora ce l'ho anche adesso, tanto per combattere che per andare e venire.

yet I to-day strong as in the day of Moses' sending me; as my power then, so my power now, for battle, and to go out, and to come in.

12 O r dunque dammi questo monte di cui l'Eterno parlò quel giorno; poiché tu stesso udisti in quel giorno che vi erano gli Anakim e città grandi e fortificate. Se l'Eterno sarà con me, io li scaccerò come disse l'Eterno».

`And now, give to me this hill-country, of which Jehovah spake in that day, for thou didst hear in that day, for Anakim there, and cities, great, fenced; if so be Jehovah with me, then I have dispossessed them, as Jehovah hath spoken.'

13 A llora Giosuè lo benedisse e diede Hebron in eredità a Caleb, figlio di Jefunneh.

And Joshua blesseth him, and giveth Hebron to Caleb son of Jephunneh for an inheritance,

14 P er questo Hebron è rimasta proprietà di Caleb, figlio di Jefunneh, il Kenizeo, fino al giorno d'oggi, perché aveva pienamente seguito l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele.

therefore hath Hebron been to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenezzite for an inheritance unto this day, because that he was fully after Jehovah, God of Israel;

15 P recedentemente Hebron si chiamava Kirjath-Arba; Arba era stato l'uomo piú grande fra gli Anakim. E il paese non ebbe più guerre.

and the name of Hebron formerly Kirjath-Arba (he the great man among the Anakim); and the land hath rest from war.
