1 O r avvenne nel quarto anno di Jehoiakim, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda, che questa parola fu rivolta dall'Eterno a Geremia, dicendo:

And it cometh to pass, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, this word hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying:

2 « Prenditi un rotolo da scrivere e scrivi su di esso tutte le parole che ti ho detto contro Israele, contro Giuda e contro tutte le nazioni, dal giorno in cui ti ho parlato, dai giorni di Giosia, fino a questo giorno.

`Take to thee a roll of a book, and thou hast written on it all the words that I have spoken unto thee concerning Israel, and concerning Judah, and concerning all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day;

3 F orse la casa di Giuda udrà tutto il male che io penso di far loro e si ritrarrà ciascuno dalla propria via malvagia, e cosí io perdonerò la loro iniquità e il loro peccato».

if so be the house of Israel do hear all the evil that I am thinking of doing to them, so that they turn back each from is evil way, and I have been propitious to their iniquity, and to their sin.'

4 A llora Geremia chiamò Baruka, figlio di Neriah e Baruk scrisse su un rotolo per scrivere, sotto dettatura di Geremia, tutte le parole che l'Eterno gli aveva detto.

And Jeremiah calleth Baruch son of Neriah, and Baruch writeth from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of Jehovah, that He hath spoken unto him, on a roll of a book.

5 P oi Geremia diede quest'ordine a Baruk: «Io sono impedito e non posso entrare nella casa dell'Eterno.

And Jeremiah commandeth Baruch, saying, `I am restrained, I am not able to enter the house of Jehovah;

6 P erciò andrai tu a leggere, dal rotolo che hai scritto sotto mia dettatura, le parole dell'Eterno, negli orecchi del popolo nella casa dell'Eterno, nel giorno del digiuno; le leggerai anche negli orecchi di tutti quelli di Giuda che vengono dalle loro città.

but thou hast entered -- and thou hast read in the roll that thou hast written from my mouth, the words of Jehovah, in the ears of the people, in the house of Jehovah, in the day of the fast, and also in the ears of all Judah who are coming in from their cities thou dost read them;

7 F orse presenteranno le loro suppliche all'Eterno e si ritrarrà ciascuno dalla propria via malvagia, perché grande è l'ira e il furore che l'Eterno ha pronunciato contro questo popolo».

if so be their supplication doth fall before Jehovah, and they turn back each from his evil way, for great the anger and the fury that Jehovah hath spoken concerning this people.'

8 B aruk quindi, figlio di Neriah, fece secondo tutto ciò che gli aveva comandato il profeta Geremia e lesse dal libro le parole dell'Eterno.

And Baruch son of Neriah doth according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, to read in the book the words of Jehovah in the house of Jehovah.

9 N el quinto anno di Jehoiakim, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda, nel nono mese, fu proclamato un digiuno davanti all'Eterno per tutto il popolo di Gerusalemme, e per tutto il popolo venuto dalle città di Giuda a Gerusalemme.

And it cometh to pass, in the fifth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, proclaimed a fast before Jehovah have all the people in Jerusalem, and all the people who are coming in from cities of Judah to Jerusalem;

10 A llora Baruk lesse dal libro le parole di Geremia agli orecchi di tutto il popolo, nella casa dell'Eterno, nella camera di Ghemariah, figlio di Shafan lo scriba, nel cortile superiore, all'ingresso della Porta Nuova della casa dell'Eterno.

and Baruch readeth in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah, in the chamber of Gemariah son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the opening of the new gate of the house of Jehovah, in the ears of all the people.

11 M ikaiah, figlio di Ghemariah, figlio di Shafan, udí tutte le parole dell'Eterno lette dal libro.

And Michaiah son of Gemariah, son of Shaphan, heareth all the words of Jehovah from off the book,

12 S cese quindi alla casa del re, nella camera dello scriba, ed ecco là stavano seduti tutti i principi: Elishama lo scriba, Delaiah figlio di Scemaiah, Elnathan figlio di Akbor, Ghemariah figlio di Shafan, Sedekia figlio di Hananiah, e tutti gli altri principi.

and he goeth down the house of the king, unto the chamber of the scribe, and lo, there are all the heads sitting: Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan son of Acbor, and Gemariah son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah son of Hananiah, and all the heads.

13 M ikaiah riferí loro tutte le parole che aveva udito mentre Baruk leggeva il libro agli orecchi del popolo.

And declare to them doth Micaiah all the words that he hath heard, when Baruch readeth in the book in the ears of the people;

14 A llora tutti i principi mandarono Jehudi, figlio di Nethaniah, figlio di Scelemiah, figlio di Kusci a Baruk per dirgli: «Prendi in mano il rotolo dal quale hai letto agli orecchi del popolo e vieni». Cosí Baruk, figlio di Neriah, prese in mano il rotolo e venne da loro.

and all the heads send unto Baruch, Jehudi son of Nethaniah, son of Shelemiah, son of Cushi, saying, `The roll in which thou hast read in the ears of the people take in thy hand, and come.' And Baruch son of Neriah taketh the roll in his hand and cometh in unto them,

15 E ssi gli dissero: «Siediti e leggilo davanti a noi». E Baruk lo lesse ai loro orecchi.

and they say unto him, `Sit down, we pray thee, and read it in our ears,' and Baruch readeth in their ears,

16 Q uando udirono tutte quelle parole, ebbero paura e guardandosi l'un l'altro, dissero a Baruk: «Dobbiamo senz'altro riferire tutte queste parole al re».

and it cometh to pass, when they hear all the words, they have been afraid one at another, and say unto Baruch, `We do surely declare to the king all these words.'

17 P oi chiesero a Baruk, dicendo: «Dicci ora come hai scritto tutte queste parole: sotto sua dettatura?».

And they asked Baruch, saying, `Declare, we pray thee, to us, how didst thou write all these words -- from his mouth?'

18 B aruk rispose loro: «Egli mi ha dettato tutte queste parole con la sua stessa bocca, e io le ho scritte con inchiostro nel libro».

And Baruch saith to them, `From his mouth, he pronounceth unto me all these words, and I am writing on the book with ink.'

19 A llora i principi dissero a Baruk: «Va' e nasconditi assieme a Geremia, e nessuno sappia dove siete».

And the heads say unto Baruch, `Go, be hidden, thou and Jeremiah, and let no one know where ye.'

20 P oi andarono dal re, nel cortile dopo aver riposto il rotolo nella camera di Elishama lo scriba, e riferirono al re tutte quelle parole.

And they go in unto the king, to the court, and the roll they have laid up in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and they declare in the ears of the king all the words.

21 A llora il re mandò Jehudi a prendere il rotolo; ed egli lo prese dalla camera di Elishama lo scriba. Quindi Jehudi lo lesse agli orecchi del re e agli orecchi di tutti i principi che stavano presso il re.

And the king sendeth Jehudi to take the roll, and he taketh it out of the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and Jehudi readeth it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the heads who are standing by the king;

22 O ra il re stava seduto nel suo palazzo d'inverno, (era il nono mese), con un braciere che ardeva davanti a lui.

and the king is sitting in the winter-house, in the ninth month, and the stove before him is burning,

23 Q uando Jehudi ne ebbe letto tre o quattro colonne, il re lo tagliò col coltellino da scriba e lo gettò nel fuoco che era nel braciere, finché il rotolo fu interamente consumato dal fuoco che era nel braciere.

and it cometh to pass, when Jehudi readeth three or four leaves, he cutteth it out with the scribe's knife, and hath cast unto the fire, that on the stove, till the consumption of all the roll by the fire that on the stove.

24 N é il re né alcuno dei suoi servi che udirono tutte queste parole si spaventarono o si stracciarono le vesti.

And the king and all his servants who are hearing all these words have not been afraid, nor rent their garments.

25 E sebbene Elnathan, Delaiah e Ghemariah supplicassero il re perché non bruciasse il rotolo, egli non volle ascoltarli.

And also Elnathan, and Delaiah, and Gemariah have interceded with the king not to burn the roll, and he hath not hearkened unto them.

26 A nzi il re ordinò a Jerahmeel figlio del re, a Seraiah, figlio di Azriel e a Scelemiah, figlio di Abdel di prendere Baruk lo scriba e il profeta Geremia. Ma l'Eterno li nascose.

And the king commandeth Jerahmeel son of Hammelek, and Seraiah son of Azriel, and Shelemiah son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe, and Jeremiah the prophet, and Jehovah doth hide them.

27 D opo che il re ebbe bruciato il rotolo e le parole che Baruk aveva scritto sotto dettatura di Geremia, la parola dell'Eterno fu rivolta a Geremia, dicendo:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah -- after the king's burning the roll, even the words that Baruch hath written from the mouth of Jeremiah -- saying:

28 « Prenditi di nuovo un altro rotolo e scrivi su di esso tutte le parole di prima, che erano nel primo rotolo bruciato da Jehoiakim, re di Giuda.

`Turn, take to thee another roll, and write on it all the former words that were on the first roll, that Jehoiakim king of Judah burnt,

29 E a Jehoiakim, re di Giuda, dirai: Cosí dice l'Eterno: Tu hai bruciato questo rotolo, dicendo: "Perché hai scritto in esso che il re di Babilonia verrà certamente e distruggerà questo paese e farà scomparire da esso uomini e bestie?"

and unto Jehoiakim king of Judah thou dost say: Thus said Jehovah, Thou hast burnt this roll, saying, Wherefore hast thou written on it, saying, The king of Babylon surely cometh in, and hath destroyed this land, and caused to cease from it man and beast?

30 P erciò cosí dice l'Eterno riguardo a Jehoiakim re di Giuda: Egli non avrà alcuno che sieda sul trono di Davide, e il suo cadavere sarà gettato fuori ed esposto al calore del giorno e al gelo della notte.

`Therefore, thus said Jehovah, concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He hath none sitting on the throne of David, and his carcase is cast out to heat by day, and to cold by night;

31 I o punirò lui, la sua discendenza e i suoi servi per la loro iniquità e farò venire su di loro, sugli abitanti di Gerusalemme e sugli uomini di Giuda tutto il male che ho pronunciato contro di loro, perché non hanno ascoltato».

and I have charged on him, and on his seed, and on his servants, their iniquity; and I have brought in on them, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto the men of Judah, all the evil that I have spoken unto them, and they hearkened not.'

32 G eremia quindi prese un altro rotolo e lo diede a Baruk, figlio di Neriah, lo scriba, il quale scrisse su di esso, sotto dettatura di Geremia, tutte le parole del libro che Jehoiakim, re di Giuda, aveva bruciato nel fuoco; vi furono inoltre aggiunte molte altre parole simili a quelle.

And Jeremiah hath taken another roll, and giveth it unto Baruch son of Neriah the scribe, and he writeth on it from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book that Jehoiakim king of Judah hath burnt in the fire; and again there were added unto them many words like these.
