1 Î n al patrulea an al lui Ioiachim, fiul lui Iosia, împăratul lui Iuda, următorul cuvînt a fost rostit către Ieremia din partea Domnului:

And it cometh to pass, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, this word hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying:

2 I a un sul de carte, şi scrie în ea toate cuvintele, pe cari ţi le-am spus cu privire la Israel şi cu privire la Iuda, şi cu privire la toate neamurile, din ziua cînd ţi-am vorbit, pe vremea lui Iosia, pînă în ziua de azi!

`Take to thee a roll of a book, and thou hast written on it all the words that I have spoken unto thee concerning Israel, and concerning Judah, and concerning all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day;

3 P oate că dacă va auzi casa lui Iuda tot răul pe care am de gînd să i -l fac, se vor întoarce fiecare dela calea lor cea rea, şi le voi ierta astfel nelegiuirea şi păcatul.``

if so be the house of Israel do hear all the evil that I am thinking of doing to them, so that they turn back each from is evil way, and I have been propitious to their iniquity, and to their sin.'

4 I eremia a chemat pe Baruc, fiul lui Neriia; şi Baruc a scris într'o carte dupăcum spunea Ieremia, toate cuvintele pe cari le spusese lui Ieremia Domnul.

And Jeremiah calleth Baruch son of Neriah, and Baruch writeth from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of Jehovah, that He hath spoken unto him, on a roll of a book.

5 A poi Ieremia a dat următoarea poruncă lui Baruc:,, Eu sînt închis, şi nu pot să merg la Casa Domnului.

And Jeremiah commandeth Baruch, saying, `I am restrained, I am not able to enter the house of Jehovah;

6 D e aceea, du-te tu însuţi, şi citeşte din carte ce ai scris în ea după spusele mele, şi anume, cuvintele Domnului, citeşte-le în auzul poporului, în Casa Domnului, în ziua postului: să le citeşti şi în auzul tuturor acelora din Iuda, cari vor veni din cetăţile lor.

but thou hast entered -- and thou hast read in the roll that thou hast written from my mouth, the words of Jehovah, in the ears of the people, in the house of Jehovah, in the day of the fast, and also in the ears of all Judah who are coming in from their cities thou dost read them;

7 P oate că se vor smeri cu rugăciuni înaintea Domnului, şi se vor întoarce fiecare dela calea sa cea rea. Căci mare este mînia şi urgia, cu care a ameninţat Domnul pe poporul acesta!``

if so be their supplication doth fall before Jehovah, and they turn back each from his evil way, for great the anger and the fury that Jehovah hath spoken concerning this people.'

8 B aruc, fiul lui Neriia, a făcut tot ce -i poruncise proorocul Ieremia, şi a citit din carte cuvintele Domnului, în Casa Domnului.

And Baruch son of Neriah doth according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, to read in the book the words of Jehovah in the house of Jehovah.

9 Î n al cincilea an al lui Ioiachim, fiul lui Iosia, împăratul lui Iuda, în luna a noua, au chemat la un post înaintea Domnului pe tot poporul Ierusalimului şi pe tot poporul venit din cetăţile lui Iuda la Ierusalim.

And it cometh to pass, in the fifth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, proclaimed a fast before Jehovah have all the people in Jerusalem, and all the people who are coming in from cities of Judah to Jerusalem;

10 A tunci Baruc a citit din carte cuvintele lui Ieremia, în auzul întregului popor, în Casa Domnului, în chilia lui Ghemaria, fiul lui Şafan, logofătul, în curtea de sus, la intrarea porţii celei noi a Casei Domnului.

and Baruch readeth in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah, in the chamber of Gemariah son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the opening of the new gate of the house of Jehovah, in the ears of all the people.

11 Î nsă Mica, fiul lui Ghemaria, fiul lui Şafan, auzind toate cuvintele Domnului cuprinse în carte,

And Michaiah son of Gemariah, son of Shaphan, heareth all the words of Jehovah from off the book,

12 s 'a pogorît la casa împăratului, în odaia de scris a logofătului, unde stăteau toate căpeteniile, logofătul Elişama, Delaia, fiul lui Şemaia, Elnatan, fiul lui Acbor, Ghemaria, fiul lui Şafan, Zedechia, fiul lui Hanania, şi toate celelalte căpetenii.

and he goeth down the house of the king, unto the chamber of the scribe, and lo, there are all the heads sitting: Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan son of Acbor, and Gemariah son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah son of Hananiah, and all the heads.

13 Ş i Mica le -a spus toate cuvintele pe cari le auzise, cînd citea Baruc în carte, în auzul poporului.

And declare to them doth Micaiah all the words that he hath heard, when Baruch readeth in the book in the ears of the people;

14 A tunci toate căpeteniile au trimes la Baruc pe Iehudi, fiul lui Netania, fiul lui Şelemia, fiul lui Cuşi, să -i spună:,, Ia în mînă cartea din care ai citit, în auzul poporului, şi vino!`` Baruc, fiul lui Neriia, a luat cartea în mînă, şi s'a dus la ei.

and all the heads send unto Baruch, Jehudi son of Nethaniah, son of Shelemiah, son of Cushi, saying, `The roll in which thou hast read in the ears of the people take in thy hand, and come.' And Baruch son of Neriah taketh the roll in his hand and cometh in unto them,

15 E i i-au zis:,,Şezi şi citeşte -o în auzul nostru.`` Astfel Baruc a citit -o în auzul lor.

and they say unto him, `Sit down, we pray thee, and read it in our ears,' and Baruch readeth in their ears,

16 C înd au auzit ei toate cuvintele, s'au uitat cu groază unii la alţii, şi au zis lui Baruc:,, Vom spune împăratului toate cuvintele acestea.``

and it cometh to pass, when they hear all the words, they have been afraid one at another, and say unto Baruch, `We do surely declare to the king all these words.'

17 Ş i au mai pus lui Baruc următoarea întrebare:,, Spune-ne cum ai scris toate cuvintele acestea după spusele lui!``

And they asked Baruch, saying, `Declare, we pray thee, to us, how didst thou write all these words -- from his mouth?'

18 B aruc le -a răspuns:,, El îmi spunea cu gura lui toate cuvintele acestea, şi eu le-am scris în cartea aceasta cu cerneală.``

And Baruch saith to them, `From his mouth, he pronounceth unto me all these words, and I am writing on the book with ink.'

19 C ăpeteniile au zis lui Baruc:,, Du-te de te ascunde, tu şi Ieremia, ca să nu ştie nimeni unde sînteţi.``

And the heads say unto Baruch, `Go, be hidden, thou and Jeremiah, and let no one know where ye.'

20 E i s'au dus apoi la împăratul în curte, lăsînd cartea în odaia de scris a logofătului Elişama, şi au spus toate cuvintele din ea în auzul împăratului.

And they go in unto the king, to the court, and the roll they have laid up in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and they declare in the ears of the king all the words.

21 Î mpăratul a trimes pe Iehudi să ia cartea, Iehudi a luat -o din odaia logofătului Elişama, şi a citit -o în auzul împăratului şi în auzul tuturor căpeteniilor cari stăteau împrejurul împăratului.

And the king sendeth Jehudi to take the roll, and he taketh it out of the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and Jehudi readeth it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the heads who are standing by the king;

22 Î mpăratul şedea în casa de iarnă, -căci era în luna a noua-şi înaintea lui era un foc de cărbuni aprinşi.

and the king is sitting in the winter-house, in the ninth month, and the stove before him is burning,

23 D upă ce Iehudi a citit trei sau patru foi, împăratul a tăiat cartea cu briceagul logofătului, şi a aruncat -o în jăratecul de cărbuni, unde a fost arsă de tot.

and it cometh to pass, when Jehudi readeth three or four leaves, he cutteth it out with the scribe's knife, and hath cast unto the fire, that on the stove, till the consumption of all the roll by the fire that on the stove.

24 Î mpăratul şi toţi slujitorii lui, cari au auzit toate cuvintele acelea, nu s'au spăimîntat şi nu şi-au sfîşiat hainele.

And the king and all his servants who are hearing all these words have not been afraid, nor rent their garments.

25 E lnatan, Delaia şi Ghemaria stăruiseră de împărat să nu ardă cartea; dar el nu i -a ascultat.

And also Elnathan, and Delaiah, and Gemariah have interceded with the king not to burn the roll, and he hath not hearkened unto them.

26 C i împăratul a poruncit lui Ierahmeel, fiul împăratului, lui Seraia, fiul lui Azriel, şi lui Şelemia, fiul lui Abdel, să pună mîna pe logofătul Baruc şi pe proorocul Ieremia. Dar Domnul i -a ascuns.

And the king commandeth Jerahmeel son of Hammelek, and Seraiah son of Azriel, and Shelemiah son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe, and Jeremiah the prophet, and Jehovah doth hide them.

27 D upăce a ars împăratul cartea, care cuprindea cuvintele, pe cari le scrisese Baruc după spusele lui Ieremia, cuvîntul Domnului a vorbit astfel lui Ieremia:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah -- after the king's burning the roll, even the words that Baruch hath written from the mouth of Jeremiah -- saying:

28 I a din nou o altă carte, şi scrie în ea toate cuvintele, cari erau în cea dintîi carte, pe care a ars -o Ioiachim, împăratul lui Iuda.

`Turn, take to thee another roll, and write on it all the former words that were on the first roll, that Jehoiakim king of Judah burnt,

29 Ş i despre Ioiachim, împăratul lui Iuda, spune:, Aşa vorbeşte Domnul:, Tu ai ars cartea aceasta, zicînd:, Pentruce ai scris în ea cuvintele acestea:,Împăratul Babilonului va veni, va nimici ţara aceasta, şi va nimici din ea oamenii şi dobitoacele?`

and unto Jehoiakim king of Judah thou dost say: Thus said Jehovah, Thou hast burnt this roll, saying, Wherefore hast thou written on it, saying, The king of Babylon surely cometh in, and hath destroyed this land, and caused to cease from it man and beast?

30 D eaceea, aşa vorbeşte Domnul despre Ioiachim, împăratul lui Iuda:, Nici unul din ai lui nu va şedea pe scaunul de domnie al lui David. Trupul lui mort va fi lăsat la căldură ziua şi la frig noaptea.

`Therefore, thus said Jehovah, concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He hath none sitting on the throne of David, and his carcase is cast out to heat by day, and to cold by night;

31 Î l voi pedepsi, pe el, sămînţa lui, şi pe slujitorii lui, pentru nelegiuirea lor, şi voi aduce peste ei, peste locuitorii Ierusalimului şi peste oamenii lui Iuda, toate nenorocirile cu cari i-am ameninţat, fără ca ei să fi vrut să Mă asculte!``

and I have charged on him, and on his seed, and on his servants, their iniquity; and I have brought in on them, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto the men of Judah, all the evil that I have spoken unto them, and they hearkened not.'

32 I eremia a luat o altă carte şi a dat -o lui Baruc, fiul lui Neriia, logofătul. Baruc a scris în ea, după spusele lui Ieremia, toate cuvintele din cartea pe care o arsese în foc Ioiachim, împăratul lui Iuda. Multe alte cuvinte de felul acesta au mai fost adăugate la ea.

And Jeremiah hath taken another roll, and giveth it unto Baruch son of Neriah the scribe, and he writeth on it from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book that Jehoiakim king of Judah hath burnt in the fire; and again there were added unto them many words like these.
